DCHHLT Chapter 21

Tentacle

Those monsters twisted their bodies. Liang Xingyuan frowned slightly. The calm expression in those eyes vanished instantly, replaced by sharp, cold gleams, like faint, flickering flames in dim light.

How… dare they?!

Although he had prepared for the day they would find their way to his home, just like the “Dada” before. Now that the day had arrived, Liang Xingyuan still felt uncontrollable rage.

How dare they?!!

These high-level monsters had surpassed the previous “Dada”. They had become intelligent, cunning, evil, and in some respects, infinitely close to Liang Xingyuan—

But that didn’t mean they could threaten Liang Xingyuan’s existence.

In a sense, at the other end of a distant, different world, the Abyss that endlessly produced monsters was Liang Xingyuan himself.

After he matured, he devoured the entire Abyss, becoming the source of all evil. He feared none of these monsters, which he transformed with his own energy.

However, he did not like their existence.

Liang Xingyuan’s silence seemed to be taken as tacit approval. The monsters clinging to the glass door grew bolder, trying to squeeze through the gap between the two doors toward Liang Xingyuan.

In an instant, black, slimy substances spread everywhere, and those golden eyeballs spun rapidly—

Time seemed to freeze. The air congealed into a viscous gel, slowly flowing between them and Liang Xingyuan.

Countless gazes burst from those golden eyes, all silently fixed on Liang Xingyuan in that single instant.

“We found you.”

Countless excited, elusive voices came abruptly from all directions, murmuring like some strange incantation: “Sovereign exalted king… we found you.”

We found you, we found you, we found you—!

Liang Xingyuan stood before these grotesque, malformed creatures, looking like a frail, pale, genuine human.

It seemed as if, with the lightest blow, his life would end here.

Unfortunately, Liang Xingyuan was no ordinary human.

He wore a cool white shirt, still wrapped in a scarf that belonged to Chu Junshan, still looking like the gentle and polite Teacher Liang.

However, a wisp of blue-white flame rose from his eyes. His heavy gaze locked onto those eyes. After a long moment, he suddenly let out a soft laugh, two fine creases forming at the corners of his eyes: “Are you here looking for me?”

The next moment, a rustling sound abruptly rose from all sides, the sound of a light breeze stirring the treetops, causing dense leaves to whisper, blowing in together, becoming the only sound that counted as movement in this room.

Liang Xingyuan heard a monster’s voice.

“Hehe… he’s figured it out.”

“I thought he’d gotten stupid…”

“Can you kill me? Hehe…”

Liang Xingyuan narrowed his eyes slightly. Yet those eyes, black as thick ink to the extreme, held no laughter, only icy murderous intent: “Tell me, what… do you want to do?”

This sentence seemed to trigger some keyword. In an instant, those monsters clinging to the glass door, ready to squeeze in, all left their original positions.

“He asks what we want to do.”

“Guess.”

“Hehe, what can you do to us?”

…

Those chaotic voices were hidden within the rustling, growing louder and louder, eventually converging into a deafening sound—

Those disgusting, hideous monsters writhed their bodies, slowly prying open the glass door, making a strange “gurgling” sound, as if mocking the monster who had wandered into another world and struggled to put on human skin.

“In this world, aren’t you lonely?” The monster laughed lowly. “Tell me, don’t you want to go back? Return to the original world, become our king again. Why stay with filthy, insignificant monsters?”

“And that human, the human beside you. You really like him, don’t you?” The monsters said softly, their voices extremely close, as if right by Liang Xingyuan’s ear, carrying a strong seductiveness. “What’s so good about humans? Humans are the filthiest, most insignificant, and fragile beings in the world. Do you remember, King, when we shared in devouring those humans who accidentally fell into the Abyss? Didn’t you enjoy tasting them?”

Before this, no matter what these monsters said, Liang Xingyuan’s expression remained unchanged, still the same cold demeanor.

However, Chu Junshan was the one and only reverse scale on his body.

“You… how dare you speak of him?”

Liang Xingyuan sneered: “What do you think you are? Have you been given too much face?”

The monsters were not impressed by such a warning. They were already high-level monsters with their own intelligence. More monsters were secretly trying to usurp their king’s position.

The current king, living in a human’s skin, had come to a place completely different from the previous world and was learning to live step by step according to human ways. How pathetic.

Even more terrifying was that he willingly went after a human’s love.

This was simply… not something a monster should do.

Before coming, they had already assessed that their king could no longer control a domain and, naturally, could no longer restrain them.

In this world, a new king should be established.

A strange stalemate held between them. No one spoke, with only the monsters’ twining, writhing tentacles and feet leaving filthy trails across the once-clean glass door.

“Come with us, okay?”

Liang Xingyuan’s face was expressionless, his thoughts unknown. From the monsters’ perspective, although he said nothing, he also made no move to indicate anything.

Thus, the monsters took this as tacit consent.

They extended their tentacles, tentatively crawling toward Liang Xingyuan: “We’ve come to take you home—”

Before the words faded, countless thick, ink-black tentacles writhed across the floor, surging like a tide to envelop those creepy eyes. In the next instant, sharp, explosive shrieks burst forth.

“Aaaaaah—”

“My eyes! My eyes!!”

“It hurts so much. So much pain—”

A blue-white flame leaped and burned fiercely in Liang Xingyuan’s eyes, shooting bright, scorching sparks. For the first time, contempt appeared so plainly on his face. He looked down at these hideous monsters, now humbly prostrate under his tentacles, his voice soft and calm yet utterly devoid of emotion.

That voice was more like a solemn, irresistible warning.

“First, I am not your king.”

Looking down from on high, Liang Xingyuan said, “Second, I am not a monster.”

When he said the word “monster”, a clear, faint tremor could be heard. He didn’t need to explain this to those frenzied monsters. His words seemed more directed at himself.

He wanted to convince himself.

So Liang Xingyuan stood there, ignoring the writhing ink-black tentacles, as green mucus dripped from the monsters’ broken remains: “I have a job, a house, a car, a group of trustworthy friends and colleagues, and now, an ideal lover. I am human, not a monster. Tomorrow, I am going to marry my beloved…”

His voice stopped abruptly, as if something had suddenly appeared and cut off his vision of the future.

Creak—

Warm light poured through the pushed-open door, the twilight heavy, casting sharp angles across the window frames.

A tall, slender young man stood before Liang Xingyuan, abruptly stepping into his sight.

The ink-black tentacles still danced in the air, their suction-cup-laden arms clutching countless burst eyeballs, while dark green, foul-smelling mucus instantly filled their once-pristine home.

Chu Junshan stood at the doorway, like an extraterrestrial visitor, utterly out of place.

Liang Xingyuan’s mind, previously kindled by blazing anger, was as if suddenly plunged into an ice cellar. His body went rigid, frozen in place. His pupils constricted to the extreme, looking particularly strange as they locked unblinkingly onto that familiar figure—

In that moment, the monster’s true nature was fully exposed.

His body was stained with the blood and brain matter of monsters of the same origin as himself, unidentifiable mucus sticky and clinging to Liang Xingyuan’s cold-white cuffs.

For a moment, Liang Xingyuan could almost believe he was dreaming.

In this interweaving of such pain and the coldness of being a monster, a part of human reason finally returned.

Unconsciously, he curled the fingertips at his side, his pale lips pressing together again and again, as if he were about to say something.

Yet a subtle force suddenly rose in the air, gripping Liang Xingyuan’s throat and making it impossible for him to explain.

With all his might, he could only force out one word from his throat: “Junshan…”

Those two simple, utterly familiar syllables seemed to drain all of Liang Xingyuan’s strength. He could no longer speak the words that followed.

What was he going to say…

Explain?

Explain all of this to Chu Junshan? Explain those pitch-black, inhuman tentacles writhing beneath him? Or explain those monsters he had already crushed to death?

What was he supposed to say?

At a time like this, was what he had hoped for still the peaceful life he once had?

What answer could he possibly get…?

This thought made Liang Xingyuan take deep breaths, like a critical patient struggling for air—

Even though he was a monster with four lungs, hyperventilation would never happen in this oxygen-rich world.

Yet he still felt as if he had been thrown into a bottomless ice cellar, where all he could feel, apart from the cold, was an overwhelming suffocation.

Those vibrant flowers, the carefully chosen engagement ring, and the confession vows prepared for so long… probably wouldn’t be needed anymore.

Chu Junshan was the most traditional of humans. He would absolutely never accept a monster, would he?

So what should he do next?

Should he just cut off these tentacles and pretend they never appeared?

Yes, that’s right. That’s what he could do…

The more these thoughts appeared in Liang Xingyuan’s mind, the more painful they became.

It was as if those tentacles had already seen through the thoughts of their deranged master, suddenly struggling and surging up like a noisy tide.

Countless screams pounced on Liang Xingyuan’s auditory organs from the void. Each one a cry for help from a soul.

“Don’t—Don’t—”

“It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!!”

“Wake up! Don’t do this!”

Bluish-white flames spontaneously ignited in the air. The monsters of the Abyss feared nothing more than light and heat. One by one, the tentacles dodged the scorching heat and darted in all directions.

Perhaps because they could find too few places to take cover, several thick tentacles took Chu Junshan, who had been standing still all along, as their savior. They tightened their stalks, flipped open their pink-tinged white flesh, and countless soft serrated mouths opened and closed one after another.

Seeing that the suckers on the tentacles were about to attach themselves to Chu Junshan’s body, Liang Xingyuan seemed to finally reclaim a shred of his sanity. Azure flames surged up the audacious tentacle in an instant. At the same moment, its piercing shriek echoed through the entire house—

The tentacle Liang Xingyuan had burned off collapsed feebly, its connection to his body abruptly severed. The air, once filled with the mild fragrance of the air freshener, suddenly carried a faint scorched smell of roasted meat.

It’s okay, it’s okay.

No more danger.

Liang Xingyuan’s consciousness was groggy and hazy. Amid the chaos, he could only grasp the last shred of reason holding his actions together.

He absolutely could not let his filthy, disgusting tentacles touch his most pure and flawless beloved.

He felt unworthy even to touch him. On what grounds, then, could you?

However, Liang Xingyuan’s flames could not fully restrain all the tentacles that had long been poised and suddenly lost control moments earlier.

Among them, the very lowest tentacle had already silently crept to Chu Junshan’s side. By the time Liang Xingyuan noticed it, it was too late to stop it.

He felt as if every single tentacle was exploding inside his heart. His pupils shrank to the utmost, his back arched swiftly, and the true form of the monster beneath his heart pulsed and throbbed, as though at any moment it would burst through his chest and tear apart the happy life that had already been destroyed before him.

He chanted the same name wildly and dazedly.

Chu Junshan.

Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan, Chu Junshan!!!!

He absolutely would not be separated from him!!! Even if he had to swallow him whole, even if he had to make him part of his own body, he absolutely would not be separated from him!!!!

However, the tentacles, already far from his main body, suddenly transmitted faint sensations, drawing Liang Xingyuan’s attention.

In his daze, he lifted his gaze and met those familiar eyes, now holding a faint glimmer of moisture.

They were as calm as a sheet of mirror—or rather, a lake—reflecting Liang Xingyuan’s most wretched appearance at this moment, the one he least wanted to see.

“Come here.”

Liang Xingyuan shuddered in alarm. He didn’t want to obey. For the first time, a rebellious thought arose against Chu Junshan’s instruction.

But the tentacles beneath him refused to follow his will, flailing and creeping reluctantly toward his slender lover.

When the slimy tentacles climbed over Chu Junshan’s cool face, he suddenly lowered his gaze and lifted the corners of his mouth.

“That’s my good boy.”

He tilted his head, his warm lips gently pressing against the tentacle that shared sensation with Liang Xingyuan. The soft touch stimulated every sucker on the tentacle, and its white flesh faintly tinged pink. He saw Chu Junshan smiling faintly, a hint of a sigh in his voice, as if both satisfied and wistful: “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.”
