MHWFYYTMDF Chapter2

Let's Get Married

Perhaps his reaction was too violent, or perhaps his current expression was truly a bit unsightly, because a flash of displeasure crossed the male fairy’s face inside the car. He jerked his chin toward him. “Mr. Song, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. Get in the car, let’s talk.”

Mr. Song? Song Li was stunned for a moment. He knows my name.

On second thought, he let out a self-deprecating smile. Earlier upstairs, Xu Shanshan had already told him someone was looking for him. Since the person was looking for him, they must have asked for him by name. Besides, the man had managed to track him all the way to the school and even knew which building his office was in, so how could he not have found out his name?

He let out a sigh. Knowing he couldn’t escape today, he had no choice but to walk around to the other side, pull open the car door, bend down, and slide inside.

The exact second his butt touched the seat; his inner turmoil vanished. As expected of a fighter jet among luxury cars; just based on this tactile feel, even if he were about to be driven to a coal yard and sold off, it was totally worth it just to sit his butt down here once.

The comfort, however, lasted only a fleeting moment. Once the initial wave of excitement passed, the awkwardness set in. Sitting there at a complete loss for what to do with his hands, he didn’t dare turn his head to look at the male fairy beside him.

Fortunately, the male fairy seemed to be someone with a strong sense of time and likely didn’t want to waste too much of it lingering here with him either. He lifted his wrist to check his watch. “Where did Mr. Song originally plan to go?”

Huh? Suddenly addressed, Song Li belatedly realized that not only was the male fairy good-looking, but his voice was also beautiful.

Feeling a bit dizzy, he glanced down at the small paper bag on his knees and told the honest truth. “To find a cafe for afternoon tea.”

After saying it, he felt a bit embarrassed. He always felt that a grown man saying such things sounded a little sissy.

Fortunately, the male fairy didn’t care what kind of things a person like him would say; he merely nodded and started the car.

Song Li stole a glance at his cold profile. Tsk, he’s truly handsome.

The car drove smoothly all the way before finally pulling up in front of a cafe. Song Li looked up at the sign; he recognized this place but had never been here. It was quite high-end with rather high average spending per person; not economical.

Having afternoon tea was supposed to be about relaxation and comfort, and coffee tasted more or less the same anyway, so there was no need to waste extra money to put on airs.

But the word “economical” obviously did not match the male fairy’s aura and might even lower his high-class status.

Sure enough, the male fairy got out of the car. The male fairy strode forward with his long legs. The male fairy’s slender fingers adjusted the lapels of his suit jacket.

Song Li pressed a hand over his heart. He’s a god, isn’t he? He knows witchcraft, right? Otherwise, how could such a simple, small movement be executed so beautifully by him?

The two of them entered the cafe together, and the male fairy’s extraordinary presence instantly drew a wave of stunned, admiring stares from most of the patrons.

Song Li couldn’t help but puff out his chest a little.

Wait, no. Everyone was looking at the male fairy, so what the hell was he getting a big head for?

The two of them sat down at a relatively quiet booth, and a waitress with a very sweet smile came over to take their orders. Following his usual routine, Song Li ordered a mocha, while the male fairy asked for an Americano.

Once the waitress served the coffee and walked away with a bright smile, the male fairy, who had been sitting perfectly upright on the sofa chair, put his phone down. Leaning forward slightly, he lifted his eyelashes to look over at him.

Song Li immediately pulled himself into a state of absolute alertness; he knew this was the signal that the male fairy was about to initiate their conversation.

Sure enough, the male fairy spoke the very next second. “Mr. Song, judging by your reaction to me, I assume you still remember me.”

Oh, I remember you all too well. He would have to be completely brainless to forget a one-night stand who happened to look this gorgeous.

Song Li maintained a calm, collected smile. “I do. The Grand Cloud Hotel.”

They were both adults; there was no need to act all coy and squeamish about this kind of thing.

The male fairy nodded, a seemingly satisfied look appearing in his eyes. “Then I shall get straight to the point. Are you currently single, Mr. Song?”

Huh? Digging straight into such private matters right off the bat?

Song Li gave an awkward smile. “Yes.”

The male fairy continued to nod, appearing not the least bit surprised by this answer. “If there were a suitable candidate right now, do you have any intention of getting married?”

“Well…” The man was just so perfectly serious and solemn. Even though it was a very abrupt question, it didn’t make one feel uncomfortable at all. Song Li thought about it, then still gave an honest reply. “I would consider it.”

“Very well.” The male fairy seemed to conclude his questioning. Leaning back, he loosely clasped his hands together; it was a conversational posture that made others feel quite comfortable. “Mr. Song, if possible, I hope you will consider me as that suitable candidate.”

“Oh… wait, what?”

Song Li snapped his head up, his eyes widening to the size of saucers.

The male fairy remained entirely serene as if that explosive statement, which was no different from a nuclear bomb detonation, had not come out of his mouth at all.

Because he was so calm and collected, it made Song Li look entirely too easily rattled like a complete country bumpkin.

He cleared his throat, pinching his own thigh under the table to force himself to calm down before looking up at the person across from him.

“Um…”

The moment he opened his mouth, he realized he had absolutely no idea how to address this man. He couldn’t exactly just call him “Male Fairy” to his face.

It was fine to complain about it in his own head, but if he actually blurted it out, the man might not mind, but he himself would probably die of embarrassment right then and there.

Fortunately, the male fairy understood his meaning right away. Giving a slight nod, he said softly, “My name is He Muyan.”

Song Li let out a breath. “Mr. He, I’m sorry, let me double-check with you just to make sure I understood correctly. Did you mean earlier that you wanted me to consider you as a marriage partner?”

Heaven, the words “marriage partner” carried entirely too much impact.

The moment they left his mouth, his heart pounded so hard it practically thundered in his chest, yet he had to do his level best to suppress his emotions and avoid making too much of a scene.

He Muyan picked up his coffee and took a light sip. “Yes. You and me.”

The hand Song Li was using to pinch his thigh trembled, and his throat went dry.

Looking at his expression, He Muyan raised an eyebrow slightly. “Are you unsatisfied with me, Mr. Song?”

“No, no, not at all!” Song Li waved both his hands and shook his head frantically. “Mr. He, you are very nice; very excellent.”

He Muyan nodded. “Thank you. So, what do you think, Mr. Song?”

What did he think? Song Li felt his vision go dark from the question, completely at a loss for how to answer. But since this man was pressing too hard, Song Li forced himself to withstand his aura and braced himself to ask, “Mr. He, you are a young and talented man, why are you in such a hurry to get married?”

“My family is pressuring me to marry. It’s very annoying.”

This answer was somewhat unexpected. Looking at his slightly knitted brows, Song Li felt a wave of empathy. He himself was a 31-year-old bachelor and had been living under the marriage-pressuring curse of his own mother and various relatives all these years; thinking about it brought a barrage of bitter tears.

To think that a high-quality face like the one across from him, which looked like it would never lack popularity with the opposite gender, actually couldn’t escape the fate of family marriage pressure either.

Song Li suddenly felt that the distance between them wasn’t so vast anymore. Relaxing his mind slightly, he asked another question. “Then… why did you look for me?”

Once he finished asking, He Muyan lifted those beautiful eyes to look at him. His pitch-black pupils were as still as a deep pool yet held immense piercing power; Song Li couldn’t handle it at all and immediately shifted his gaze away.

He Muyan’s tone deepened slightly. “We are very compatible.”

Compatible? Song Li looked at his face, then looked at himself, thought about that fighter-jet luxury car, and then thought about his own Santana.

Where exactly were they compatible?

As if he could read minds, He Muyan lowered those two clusters of excessively long, thick eyelashes and said softly, “Physically.”

At first, Song Li thought he had misheard, but once it registered, his face instantly flushed bright red, his temperature exploding like a boiling kettle.

“You, you, you…”

He stuttered “you, you, you” for a long time, but ultimately choked the words back down. Feeling like he was about to burst, he raised a hand to cover half his face, only letting out an embarrassed, soft groan after a long while.

He Muyan asked him, “Do you have any other questions?”

He did, but he didn’t dare ask them anymore.

Seeing that he remained silent, He Muyan took it as a default confirmation and asked again, “Then do you think it is acceptable, Mr. Song?”

Song Li pulled a bitter, pitiful face. “Could I think it over for a bit?”

“Of course you can.” He Muyan glanced at his wristwatch. “It is currently one o’clock. I have a meeting at two this afternoon, which should conclude by three-thirty. It would be best if Mr. Song could give me a reply before four.”

Song Li’s mouth felt half-open. Three hours to think it over… did that even count as thinking it over?

For He Muyan, it clearly did. Judging from his expression, he was already growing a bit impatient and didn’t want to continue wasting time here, so he looked up and asked once more, “Mr. Song, is that acceptable?”

Song Li gave a bitter smile. “Yes.”

He Muyan nodded with satisfaction and pushed a manila folder, which had been resting beside him all this time, across the table toward him.

“Inside are my personal details. It is very comprehensive, and you may use it as a reference.”

Song Li glanced at the folder, his emotions complicated.

“We will leave it at that for now.” He Muyan adjusted his suit jacket, stood up, and looked at him. “Mr. Song can continue to enjoy your afternoon teatime here. We will get in touch again at four o’clock.”

Out of politeness, Song Li felt he should see him off, but by the time he scrambled to his feet, the tall, long-legged He Muyan had already walked out of the cafe.

Turning his head to watch the silhouette of the man bending down to slide into the car, Song Li let out a soft sigh.

What a mess.

Pressing his fingers against the folder on the table, he fell silent for a moment before gently pushing it away.

As if throwing a tantrum, he pulled out his donut and shoved more than half of it into his mouth in one bite.

It was very sweet, but he didn’t feel happy eating it at all.

He swallowed it whole, and like someone making a final resolve, a look of determination filled his eyes.

At four o’clock on the dot, He Muyan’s call came through. Song Li didn’t even want to bother questioning how the man had managed to get his phone number anymore.

He Muyan’s deep voice sounded even more magnetic and pleasing over the phone. “Mr. Song, how have you considered it?”

Song Li took a deep breath, speaking with the resolve of burning his bridges. “I’ve thought it over. I believe Mr. He is a very suitable marriage partner.”

He Muyan merely let out an “en,” his tone surprisingly flat. “We will leave it at that then. I will pick you up tomorrow morning at nine o’clock so we can get our marriage certificate registered.”

This was no different from yet another bomb being thrown directly at Song Li’s face. However, after being blasted inside out all day by various rockets and nuclear weapons, hearing him say this now surprisingly didn’t cause too much of an emotional ripple.

He just couldn’t resist making one final, dying struggle to ask, “Isn’t going to get registered tomorrow a little too rushed?”

He Muyan fell silent for a moment. “Looking at my itinerary, tomorrow morning is my only available slot. Anything later would have to be Thursday, which is three days from now.”

Song Li waved his hand, feeling a headache coming on. “Forget it, forget it. Tomorrow it is, then.”

Whether a sudden death came early or late, it was still death; why care about a day or two’s difference?
