ITF Chapter84

Luo Congye truly could not understand why the current Bai Heting was so prone to sleep. It was only a half-hour journey from the port to their residence, yet he had managed to sleep the entire way on horseback.

Worried that he might fall off the horse, Luo Congye had to free up one hand to keep the man firmly pressed into his embrace throughout the ride. He didn’t dare let the horse run too fast, nor did he dare go too slow, and he certainly didn’t dare take the twisting shortcut. Over this short distance, he had ridden with his heart in his mouth.

By the time the horse stopped at the entrance of their residence, Luo Congye was already drenched in a light sweat, while Bai Heting, looking completely unbothered, leisurely woke up in his arms. Getting off the horse with sleepy eyes, he headed straight for the bedroom after pushing open the door, kicked off his boots, and climbed onto the bed without a moment’s hesitation.

Luo Congye followed him into the room.

“You’re going to sleep just like that?” He lit the candlestick on the table, glanced at the twilight outside the window which hadn’t yet completely darkened, and then went to pick up the two haphazardly discarded boots. “The sun has only just set.”

Finding the candlelight too bright for his eyes, Bai Heting rolled over to lie prone on the bed, murmuring indistinctly, “I woke up early today.”

Luo Congye was temporarily struck speechless.

He did indeed have to bear part of the responsibility for Bai Heting waking up early today.

He placed the two boots at the foot of the bed and stood by the bedside watching Bai Heting for a while. In the end, no longer able to restrain himself, he finally spoke up to confirm, “It wouldn’t make any difference to you even if I liked Physician Lin?”

The bedding was filled with a relaxing, mellow aroma of wine. Bai Heting was so dazed with sleep that he couldn’t even be bothered to open his eyes, giving a perfunctory “En.”

“I said—” Luo Congye suddenly knelt with one knee on the bed while leaning over to grab Bai Heting’s shoulders to flip him over and ripped off the suffocating suppressor patch from the back of his own neck.

He was truly angry.

This person had clearly said with his own mouth that he did not like sharing his pheromones with others. Over the past three years, precisely because of that single sentence, he had guarded his own pheromones as if guarding his chastity, never using this top-tier Alpha pheromone to suppress anyone.

How could he say such a thing so casually?

He pressed his palm firmly against Bai Heting’s shoulder, looking down at him as his voice sharpened slightly. “It wouldn’t matter to you even if I liked Physician Lin?”

Bai Heting lifted his eyelids to glance at him twice, unable to fathom why someone would badger him endlessly over a joke.

He said impatiently, “It’s impossible.”

Luo Congye froze. “What do you mean by impossible?”

“Impossible means impossible.” Bai Heting wanted to turn over, but since his shoulders were pinned down firmly, he had no choice but to give up.

“You only love me.” He closed his eyes once again.

You only love me.

These four words were spoken by him as if they were a matter of course, and yet so nonchalantly.

Luo Congye did not snap out of it for a long time.

How could there be such a person in this world? He was so rogue, yet his roguishness was so innocent.

He was clearly so certain… but then what did everything from three years ago mean?

Which words were true, and which were false?

Luo Congye was thoroughly bewildered by his contradictions.

As he remained silent, half of Bai Heting’s drowsiness vanished into thin air. He opened his eyes and asked in confusion, “Is it not so?”

The weight on his shoulders lifted as his chin was tilted upward.

Luo Congye’s kiss came crashing down at that exact moment.

His movements were rough, his teeth colliding heavily against Bai Heting’s lips. Bai Heting let out a muffled groan, and before he could even react, a forceful tongue had already pushed its way inside. As if trying to swallow him whole, Luo Congye sucked his lips and tongue until they were sore and numb.

Bai Heting was nearly suffocating.

Even his gasps for air were swallowed up by the kiss.

Gradually, the kiss shifted from frantic to tender, and the hand gripping his chin slowly loosened its strength. Luo Congye parted slightly from his lips with his nose brushing against Bai Heting’s, his fingers gently caressing his face. Bai Heting tilted his chin upward, his lips brushing faintly against the corner of Luo Congye’s mouth, a silent cue for him to go on.

Luo Congye, however, buried his face into the nook of his neck.

“I really…” he said in a low, raspy voice, “can’t do a single thing about you.”

The pad of his thumb slid inquiringly across Bai Heting’s wet lower lip, his tone shifting into one of certainty, “Three years ago, you didn’t want to kill me. You let me go.”

“If you say those words out loud, people will laugh at you,” Bai Heting said, his breathing uneven as he chuckled softly. “People only believe what their own eyes see.”

Luo Congye remained kneeling with one knee on the bed while his other foot was still planted on the floor. He maintained this awkward position without moving. A long time passed, long enough for the lingering warmth of the kiss to fade almost completely, before he finally spoke in a low voice, “You don’t know how I got through these past three years.”

His tone was very restrained, carrying no resentment and revealing no sorrow; it only sounded a bit weary because his voice was pitched so low.

During these three years, he had at one point believed that Bai Heting was truly dead, but the part of himself outside of his rationality simply could not accept it. He couldn’t hate thoroughly, nor could he love freely. He could only repeat the same nightmare day after day, and night after night, embrace that cold, lifeless body in the ocean.

“But you are still alive.” Bai Heting said softly.

Some people were born to be on the battlefield, he thought with his eyes closed.

On the battlefield, only by staying alive did one have a hope of winning. Both he and Luo Congye were people who lived on the battlefield.

He raised his hand to gently stroke Luo Congye’s arched back before moving all the way down to slip beneath the hem of his short shirt.

The firm muscles instantly tensed up under his touch.

He accurately located the knife scar that had nearly cost Luo Congye his life. The moment his warm palm pressed against it, the back of his hand was covered by another, even hotter palm.
