“…If you really don’t want to, we can stay here.”
Even though he had been acting so forcefully up to this point, Ogiwara suddenly appeared vulnerable, catching Minato off guard. His expression and tone were just as they had been ten years ago. Minato found himself unable to refuse.
When he nodded, Ogiwara began walking, lightly pulling Minato along by the elbow. Following him, Minato took hesitant steps forward.
***
The car Ogiwara led him to, parked in a nearby coin-operated parking lot, was a high RV.
Minato struggled to climb into the passenger seat, unfamiliar with such a tall vehicle. As the scenery outside the window began to move, he waited for Ogiwara to speak. Yet, even after they passed the nearest station, Ogiwara remained silent, his hands steady on the steering wheel.
Minato didn’t own a car himself, opting for trains and buses to get around. While he had lived in the area for ten years, straying off the main bus routes made navigation challenging. He decided it was better to finish the conversation quickly and have Ogiwara drop him off at a station. Resolving this, he turned to the driver.
“What is it you wanted to talk about?”
The weight of the silence made him adjust his tone, softening it slightly. Ogiwara briefly glanced at him but stayed silent, turning the car abruptly to the right. Minato braced himself against the sudden lurch, then repeated his question. “What do you want to talk about?”
“…You became a tutor instead of a schoolteacher. Did you fail the teaching exam?”
Minato blinked, caught off guard by Ogiwara’s eventual response.
“I passed the exam, but there weren’t any open positions. After considering various options, I decided that being a tutor might suit me better.”
“Didn’t you want to be like the teacher you admired?”
“Even if that was my goal, achieving it is a different story. Being a schoolteacher involves more than just teaching, after all.”
Minato felt a faint warmth in his chest, realizing that Ogiwara remembered something from ten years ago. He found comfort in their ordinary conversation, though he couldn’t help but feel they were like acquaintances reconnecting after a long estrangement.
Then, the view beyond the windshield opened up.
They had reached a road along the coast. The sea stretched out under the bright moonlight, its waves clearly visible in the glow.
Before long, Ogiwara pulled into a seaside parking lot, sliding into a space with a clear view of the ocean.
“I guess that was the right decision. Having a schoolteacher who ignores a former student twice would definitely be problematic.”
The blatant sarcasm caused Minato’s mood to sink just as it had begun to lift. As he lowered his gaze, acknowledging the remark as justified, he heard the sound of Ogiwara stepping out of the car.
The window beside him was tapped, and the passenger door was opened from outside. Stepping out as prompted, Minato shivered as the cold wind wrapped around him.
Even though it was late March, the night air was chilly. Amid the sound of waves crashing in the distance, he heard the car lock behind them. He wondered why they needed to step outside in the first place.
“…Let’s get back to the point. What is it you wanted to tell me?”
“Inside. This way.”
Without waiting for a reply, Ogiwara grabbed Minato by the elbow through his coat. He led him forward with firm steps.
Minato glanced ahead, noticing a white, elegant building about ten meters away. His breath caught when he saw the sign near the roof displaying times and prices. It was unmistakably that kind of hotel.
“Wait! Where are you trying to take me?”
“I just want to talk somewhere quiet. At this hour, there aren’t many open places. For privacy and efficiency, this is ideal.”
“Then we can talk in the car! No one can overhear us there—”
“I don’t like that. It’s cramped, and my right knee aches in the cold.”
Minato couldn’t argue with the last statement. Reluctantly following as Ogiwara dragged him forward, he managed to muster a weak protest.
“In that case, a fast-food place or a family restaurant—”
“Fast food tastes terrible, and I’m tired of family restaurants. Besides, they’re still reasonably crowded, even late at night. Surely, you’re the one who wouldn’t want our conversation overheard.”
Stopping abruptly, Ogiwara turned to look down at Minato with undisguised annoyance, throwing out his next remark casually.
“Are you under some kind of misunderstanding? I also have the right to choose my companion.”
The derision in his tone left Minato speechless.
Ogiwara gave him a fleeting glance, then resumed walking. Unable to find words, Minato simply followed, his arm still being pulled along.
As they reached the building, Minato noticed how confidently Ogiwara moved. There wasn’t a hint of hesitation as he headed for the reception area.
Despite being older now, Minato had never set foot in a love hotel before. As he stood awkwardly in front of the unmanned counter, Ogiwara handled the process smoothly and without delay.
Minato’s thoughts remained calm—until they entered the room. The space resembled a city hotel at first glance but felt distinctly different. The very air seemed to carry a peculiar charge, and the sight of the bed stopped Minato in his tracks.
He thought he heard someone exhale near his ear. The illusion brought back memories of the incident from ten years ago—a single act that lingered, vivid and unsettling.
“What are you doing? Come in properly, and at least take off your coat.”
Ogiwara’s voice snapped Minato back to the present. He realized he had been standing with his back against the door.
Ogiwara, having entered first, threw his jacket carelessly onto the sofa. Even that simple movement made Minato’s body tense involuntarily.
“I’m fine here. I’m sorry, but I have work tomorrow, so I’d appreciate it if we could keep this brief. Could you tell me what you wanted to talk about?”
“…So, you don’t want to talk to me unless it’s absolutely necessary? Or rather, you didn’t even want to see me in the first place?”
Ogiwara’s response was rough and laced with bitterness. Minato flinched at the sharp change in tone.
Not just the way Ogiwara spoke—his entire demeanor had shifted. His expression and the atmosphere he exuded had become something decadent and chilling.
Minato’s instincts screamed that this wasn’t the Ogiwara he knew.
He unconsciously stepped back, his heel hitting the door with a thud. The noise seemed to irritate Ogiwara, who frowned as he strode over. He leaned down, peering directly into Minato’s face.
“Minato-sensei, you always look so reserved, yet you do as you please. Ten years ago, you left without a word. And now, after meeting unexpectedly again, this is all that you have to say?”

*Translator’s Note: Ogiwara’s going to fuck things up again, huh? Look at him mentioning his right knee. He knows how to guilt-trip Minato. This obsessed immature child! Ogiwara also said: I also have the right to choose my companion. He is insinuating that Minato is not someone he would have a relationship with. Like a romantic relationship. So, he wanted to say that Minato might have misunderstood his intention to bring him to a love hotel. Something like that. But man, that’s obviously a trap! Just look at what he’s about to do in the next chapter! The audacity of this bijjjj!!! -K
