PTBLSI chapter 82

Motorcycle

The first animation that Qi Xi participated in during the third summer after he started dating Fu Yanchuan won an international animation award for Best Art.

However, Cheng Shu picked up the award on his behalf. Qi Xi did not attend the ceremony because the film performed well at the box office, ranking in the top ten domestic animated films. Qi Xi gained recognition and a lot more fans.

This was normal, but some marketing accounts, for the sake of traffic, dug up an avatar he had used on a foreign site and pinned titles on him like “the most handsome animation creator” and “the most handsome painter.”

Sure enough, the attention to Qi Xi’s appearance stirred up a wave of traffic. Even his high school graduation group photo was dug up and posted. For a time, Qi Xi was trending. All kinds of people dug into his private information, and some spread rumors with seeming certainty. Even worse, someone went so far as to secretly photograph outside Cheng Shu’s studio.

After the animation was finished, Qi Xi rarely went there anymore. However, there was a photo wall in the studio with pictures from various activities they had participated in. Among them were photos of Fu Yanchuan making intimate gestures with Qi Xi.

Cheng Shu didn’t know where the other party had taken the photos. In any case, once the photos were posted online and involved gossip about wealthy families, their popularity instantly skyrocketed.

Although Fu Yanchuan quickly had them taken down, Qi Xi was frightened. He didn’t want to show his face anymore, so he let Cheng Shu pick up the award as a stand-in.

On the day of the awards ceremony, Qi Xi was still very happy. Due to the time difference, he stayed up late to watch the live broadcast on TV.

Fu Yanchuan, being Qi Xi’s “human sofa,” naturally accompanied him. After their photo was posted online, he could have suppressed it quickly, but he didn’t take the initiative to do so. Only afterward did he realize his mistake and admit that, on some level, he had acted intentionally.

In hindsight, he wondered if he had wanted the whole world to know that Qi Xi was his, even if it might cause misunderstandings or rumors that he was keeping Qi Xi. Or perhaps he wanted Qi Xi to take the initiative to stop appearing in public or participating in activities that would allow people to get to know him.

The award results weren’t announced in advance. When the time came to announce the Best Art nomination, Qi Xi nervously grabbed Fu Yanchuan’s arm. When the host announced the winner, he was stunned for a long while.

“Fu Yanchuan, was that my name he just read?”

Because of the language barrier, Qi Xi only understood his own name. At that moment, his artwork appeared on the screen. He turned to look at Fu Yanchuan as if he were dreaming, afraid that if Fu Yanchuan spoke, he would wake up.

Fu Yanchuan’s warm palm pressed firmly against his face and said, “It’s you. Congratulations.”

“Ah—”

Qi Xi suddenly jumped up. He didn’t even notice his arm hitting Fu Yanchuan’s chest. He jumped down and pointed at the TV. “It’s really me! Director Cheng went to accept the award. Fu Yanchuan, it’s really me! It really is me!”

It was the first time Fu Yanchuan had seen Qi Xi so happy, and he couldn’t help but smile too. As Cheng Shu began his acceptance speech on stage, Qi Xi threw himself back into Fu Yanchuan’s arms and asked, “What did Director Cheng say?”

“He said you’re a once-in-a-lifetime genius he’s ever seen.”

Qi Xi was somewhat skeptical. “He talked for so long, and that’s all it meant?”

Cheng Shu did say a lot, but most of it was useless formal talk. Fu Yanchuan didn’t want to translate all of it and nodded. “That one sentence is enough.”

Qi Xi thought about it and decided it made sense. Then he smiled again and asked, “Am I really a genius? Am I really that amazing? He told so many foreigners, and I’m embarrassed!”

“You are, to begin with.”

As he spoke, Fu Yanchuan turned Qi Xi’s face, which had been glancing at the TV, back toward him. He looked straight at him. “Xixi, you’re not just a genius at drawing. In many ways, you are.”

“What else am I a genius at?”

Qi Xi didn’t quite believe it. Fu Yanchuan replied seriously, “Making me love you.”

His heartbeat suddenly sped up and skipped a beat. Holding Fu Yanchuan’s face, Qi Xi said, “That’s not it! It’s that I finally feel like I’m a little worthy of you.”

Startled, Fu Yanchuan hugged Qi Xi tightly and confessed, “Xixi, I’m the one who isn’t worthy of you.”

Qi Xi didn’t understand and was about to ask when Fu Yanchuan suddenly kissed him, blocking his mouth. Qi Xi pushed him away, saying, “Wait! I want to go see my trophy.”

Fu Yanchuan held him tightly and wouldn’t let go. “Cheng Shu will bring it back for you. You still owe me a thank you. Shouldn’t you give it to me?”

Tickled by Fu Yanchuan’s hands, Qi Xi finally stopped thinking about the trophy. He answered stubbornly, “When did I owe you?”

“I taught you how to ride a motorcycle.”

Two months ago, Qi Xi had suddenly become interested in motorcycles. It wasn’t really sudden. It was because of a scene in an anime where the protagonist rode a motorcycle. At that time, in order to draw it well, he looked up a lot of materials. Without realizing it, he developed the idea that he wanted to ride one too.

He originally wanted to go to driving school, but Fu Yanchuan said he knew how to drive and wanted to teach him himself. He retorted, “I already treated you to a meal and signed up for you. Isn’t that enough?”

Fu Yanchuan replied, “Not enough. I also took you to get your license and bought you a bike.”

“Then what else do you want?”

Fu Yanchuan knew Qi Xi would easily fall for it. He made him sit facing him on his lap. “Take out the comics you’ve been reading recently and choose one thing yourself.”

Recently, with the help of the internet, Qi Xi had finally found uncensored comics. He proudly showed them off to Fu Yanchuan. As a result, Fu Yanchuan seemed to discover a new world, often sneaking a look when Qi Xi was secretly reading. Then, at bedtime, he would want to talk about the comics with Qi Xi.

Thinking back to the comics he’d read in the past few days, Qi Xi refused. “Can we change to something else?”

Fu Yanchuan pulled him closer and whispered, “Weren’t you curious about what that feels like?”

“No! You heard wrong!”

Qi Xi’s face suddenly turned red. Guilty, he avoided Fu Yanchuan’s gaze. The content of those comics was, more or less, about strange fetishes. He was curious, yes, but the mere thought of trying them made him feel extremely embarrassed.

Fu Yanchuan kissed him from his lips to his ear and coaxed him in a bewitching whisper. “I won’t do anything else. I’ll just tie your hands and do it myself, like how you want me.”

Qi Xi suddenly felt like he could accept it. “Just tie my hands.”

Fu Yanchuan didn’t expect Qi Xi to agree. He hooked the corner of his mouth and grabbed Qi Xi’s hands. He pressed them behind Qi Xi’s back, took off his pajama top to bind Qi Xi’s hands, and said, “Alright, Xixi.”

Qi Xi instinctively struggled a bit. Fu Yanchuan wrapped his forearms tightly with the clothes, preventing his hands from moving. He slid down from the sofa and knelt on the carpet.

However, it was easy to imagine getting up. When he actually tried it, though, he realized how important his hands were. After struggling for a long time, he still couldn’t do it. Pitifully, he looked up at Fu Yanchuan. “Fu Yanchuan, help me.”

Fu Yanchuan had the urge to bully him, but in reality, he was the one who suffered more. His chest heaved. In silence, he helped Qi Xi with this small favor.

Qi Xi smiled sweetly, like a kindergartener who had just received a red flower from their teacher, and said, “Thank you.” He instantly didn’t want to play this slow game anymore, but he restrained himself and observed Qi Xi intently with downcast eyes.

Sometimes, he couldn’t understand where his desire for Qi Xi came from. Other times, he felt it was all natural. Qi Xi attracted him and tempted him everywhere, just like at this moment when he held onto his lifeline and grasped his life and death.

However, Qi Xi suddenly spat it out, sighed, and complained to Fu Yanchuan, “I’m so tired. I’m not doing it anymore!”

Fu Yanchuan held back his laughter. If he laughed, Qi Xi would definitely settle the score with him. He bent down and pulled him up. After several years, he had come to understand Qi Xi better. Qi Xi didn’t give up just because he encountered difficulties. It was just that, when it came to things he didn’t want to do, he would force himself to start a little and then give up.

Seizing the chance, he asked, “How are you going to compensate me?”

Qi Xi answered boldly, “As long as I don’t have to put in effort, you can do whatever you want, okay?”

Fu Yanchuan picked him up at once and carried him back to the bedroom. “You said that yourself.”

Three days after the award ceremony, Qi Xi’s trophy finally came back. Cheng Shu had planned to deliver it to him, but Qi Xi was eager to see it. Even at 1 o’clock in the morning he insisted on going to the airport to pick up Cheng Shu.

After several rounds of rain, Huo City entered autumn, and the weather started to turn cool, especially late at night, when there was a hint of dew in the air.

Fu Yanchuan couldn’t persuade Qi Xi to stay home. Normally, they would already be asleep at this hour. Today, however, Qi Xi had deliberately slept half the afternoon just to pick up his trophy at dawn.

Fu Yanchuan could only remind him, “It’s cold at night. Wear an extra layer.”

Qi Xi seemed to have already decided what to wear. He gave Fu Yanchuan a mischievous grin and ran into the walk-in closet.

Fu Yanchuan was curious and wanted to follow, but he found that Qi Xi had locked the closet door. Becoming even more puzzled, he waited outside for a few minutes. Finally, Qi Xi opened the door and came out. Fu Yanchuan froze in place.

Over the past two years, Fu Yanchuan had built up Qi Xi’s body more solidly. Although his abs hadn’t really been trained, there were still faint muscle lines visible. He had shed his youthful childishness and gained a kind of charm that leaned more toward that of an adult man.

But he usually dressed casually and comfortably, wearing formal clothes only on rare, necessary occasions. Today, however, he had changed into a style he had never worn before:

He wore a hip-length black leather jacket with a V-neck T-shirt underneath, slim-fitting black jeans, and work-style leather boots, which he usually didn’t like to wear. He was also holding two motorcycle helmets.

Fu Yanchuan was shocked that, even though he had touched every part of Qi Xi’s body, he could still be completely bewitched just by Qi Xi changing clothes.

Qi Xi seemed to know he looked handsome like this. When he walked toward Fu Yanchuan, it was as if he were tempting him on purpose. However, the two helmets were too big, and he couldn’t hold them with one hand. One slipped and fell, smashing onto his foot and instantly cutting his coolness in half.

“Did it hurt?”

Fu Yanchuan quickly squatted down. Qi Xi answered, “It doesn’t hurt; the shoes are hard.”

After confirming that Qi Xi wasn’t lying, Fu Yanchuan picked up the fallen helmet. Only after standing up did he ask, “Where did these clothes come from?”

“Qi Zhounan gave them to me.”

Fu Yanchuan remembered that after Qi Xi got his motorcycle license, he bought him a bike. Qi Zhounan was very unconvinced and said that he wanted to give Qi Xi a gift. Several days passed, however, and the gift never arrived, so Fu Yanchuan assumed that Qi Zhounan hadn’t managed to send it.

Staring at Qi Xi at that moment, Fu Yanchuan felt unhappy yet also inexplicably pleased. He was unhappy that he hadn’t thought to buy Qi Xi an outfit like this and pleased that Qi Zhounan’s gift had pleased him so much.

Qi Xi stopped trying to look cool. He tossed the helmets onto the bed and pulled Fu Yanchuan over, saying, “Do something cooler with my hair.”

Fu Yanchuan was unhappy again. “You’re going to see Cheng Shu dressed this nicely?”

“But my clothes are so cool, my hairstyle doesn’t match!”

Fu Yanchuan looked Qi Xi over. He actually wanted to see just how handsome his treasure could be. Half expectant and half unwilling, he changed Qi Xi’s hairstyle.

Qi Xi’s forehead, usually half covered by his hair, was now exposed, and his entire demeanor felt different. Fu Yanchuan couldn’t help but lean in closer. “Xixi, why are you so good-looking? I don’t want others to see you.”

“How good-looking? Let me see too!”

Qi Xi tried to turn and look in the mirror, but Fu Yanchuan stopped him. “Wait.”

The next second, he pinched Qi Xi’s neck and kissed him. Qi Xi grabbed his hand and struggled in protest. “Don’t mess up my hair. I haven’t even seen it yet.”

Fu Yanchuan chuckled, turned Qi Xi to face the mirror, and looked at him through the reflection as he said, “Xixi, say you love me.”

“Why?”

His hand slipped around Qi Xi’s waist. Kissing his neck, he said, “You’ve never worn clothes like this and said you loved me.”

“You’re so annoying! We’re going to be late!”

Qi Xi urgently pried Fu Yanchuan’s hand away, pulled him up, and headed outside. Fu Yanchuan was dissatisfied. “Let Cheng Shu wait if he’s already here. What’s the rush?”

“If we’re late, they’ll turn off the lights!”

Qi Xi didn’t allow Fu Yanchuan to object. He went out, grabbed the helmets, and left.

Fu Yanchuan didn’t understand what Qi Xi meant by the lights were off, but once he saw Qi Xi dressed like that, he guessed he wanted to ride the bike out. Although Qi Xi had gotten his license several months ago, he hadn’t dared to ride on main roads before. As soon as he saw traffic, he would get nervous.

In the garage, Qi Xi put a helmet on Fu Yanchuan, mounted the bike, and turned back to urge him, “Hurry up and get on.”

Fu Yanchuan wasn’t worried about Qi Xi’s riding skills. In fact, Qi Xi was a very good rider, or rather, he had a lot of athletic talent. He just didn’t like exercising.

Technically, this was the first time Qi Xi had truly ridden the bike with him. Fu Yanchuan reached out, hugged Qi Xi’s waist tightly, and pressed close to his back. He heard Qi Xi say, “Hold on tighter.”

He chuckled softly and slid both hands inside Qi Xi’s leather jacket. Qi Xi immediately said, “I didn’t tell you to touch me.”

Instead of loosening his grip, he tightened it even more and replied, “I’m afraid I’ll get blown off by the wind.”

Qi Xi indulged him, started the engine, and the roar echoed through the late-night garage before the motorcycle shot out.

After midnight, the streets grew quiet. Streetlights lined up neatly, illuminating the vehicles and people speeding past.

When Qi Xi rode the bike out by himself for the first time, he experienced a kind of freedom he had never felt before. For the first time, he felt that he could actually do something like this.

Everything he could do now had been taught to him by Fu Yanchuan.

“Fu Yanchuan!”

Fu Yanchuan suddenly heard Qi Xi’s shout, half of which was scattered by the wind. He realized that Qi Xi wasn’t taking the road to the airport. Worried that Qi Xi might not know the way, he heard Qi Xi shout again.

“Look to the right!”

He turned right immediately. To their right was a river. On the opposite bank, there was some kind of cultural, creative, scenic project. In the night, countless lights and their reflections in the river came together to form the words “I LOVE U.”

However, this could only be seen from a specific angle. Once the vehicle passed, the words disappeared. He immediately understood that Qi Xi hadn’t taken the wrong road and wasn’t in a rush to get to the airport. He had brought him here deliberately to see this.

“Fu Yanchuan, did you see it?”

Qi Xi’s voice drifted over again through the wind. The countless times he had made Qi Xi confirm his love for him paled in comparison to this moment, rough and direct as it pierced straight into his heart.

Qi Xi added, “At one o’clock, the lights will be turned off. Luckily, we didn’t miss it.”

Through his helmet, Fu leaned close to Qi Xi’s ear and replied, “I love you too.”

Qi Xi didn’t hear clearly. “What did you say?”

The night wind rushed toward them, and the engine roared through the street. For the first time in his life, he shouted at the top of his lungs:

“Qi Xi, I love you too!”
