Seeing his lazy brother refuse to move, Mi Huan had to explain to A Ming that they were filming a show and that entering would mean appearing on camera. However, they could have everything cut in post-production.
A Ming waved his hand. “We know you’re filming. Your cameraman even came to my house to interview me.”
“So you’re the big brother Mi Le mentioned! Your name is A Ming, right?” Mi Huan suddenly realized.
So these were the children’s new friends! Mi Huan happily welcomed them into the living room.
“Kids, look who’s here!” Mi Huan clapped his hands.
Little Su Youli was the first to look up, then called out excitedly: “Brother A Ming!”
A Ming hadn’t expected this pretty little brother to remember him. He nodded excitedly: “Youyou, we came to play with you!”
All four little ones were thrilled. They really liked A Ming and the other island children. So the number of children watching Ultraman went from four to nine, filling the living room carpet. With so many kids together, no script was needed. Just watching them interact was entertainment enough. A Ming and his friends had also brought some local island snacks. His parents must have reminded him before he left, because A Ming introduced them as he took them out.
“These are dragonfish crisps, made from monkfish. These are grilled cod fillets and cod sausages. Coconut candy, dried mango, and coconut powder for drinks. This is pork floss and seaweed roll my mom made herself. The fish snacks were bought by my dad when he went to Haicheng to sell fish. They have brand labels. We like to eat them too.”
His family had told him before coming: Mi Le, Youyou, and the others were rich kids from big cities, and they might be picky about island snacks. A Ming and his friends really wanted to be friends with these children and wanted to thank them in person for their help. A Ming held out the bag with both hands, opening it so they could see inside. He was a little nervous. He hoped Youyou and the others would like the snacks. Without time to react, the children who had been seriously watching TV rushed over. Four little heads tried to bury themselves in the plastic bag.
“Wow.”
“Wow.”
“Smells so good.”
“Gulp.”
“Qiqi, I heard you swallow!” Mi Le said firmly.
“No, that was you.”
“Brother A Ming, can we eat them?” Niu Niu asked.
A Ming didn’t answer. He instinctively looked at the adults in the living room.
Hua Zhao and Mi Huan smiled and nodded. “You can eat. Remember to say thank you to Brother A Ming.”
Shen Minyan, on the other hand, was carefully reading the ingredients on the packaging with a serious expression. These snacks were made by reputable Haicheng food factories. Since they were for children, they were additive-free, low in sugar and salt, delicious, and rich in protein. The snacks were quickly distributed to the four little ones. Su Youli loved the cod sausages best. He thought they were the best cod sausages he’d ever eaten. Su Yuanzi loved them too.
“Dad, I want to buy some to take home for Yuanzi.”
Shen Minyan nodded. Whatever his son wanted, he would get. The kids ate snacks and watched TV in the living room. The girls played with each other’s hair and braided it, while the boys argued about whether they preferred blue Ultraman Tiga or red Ultraman Tiga. While the children were happily playing, their parents also arrived.
Like A Ming and his friends, they carried things, but the adults carried buckets containing the seafood they’d caught that morning. Everyone was surprised. It was one thing for the kids to show up, but the parents too? The islanders were so warm and welcoming.
“Hello.”
The warm-hearted islanders explained: “Thank you. Yesterday, the village held a meeting. The government saw the interview video online and sent a special team to investigate. Within five hours of returning, they decided to begin cleanup and ecological restoration on the island.”
The village chief’s hair was white. Living on the island had tanned his dark skin and lined his face deeply. Only his eyes sparkled with hope. Because of its remote location, the small island hadn’t received much attention. Although many tourists visited, all the attractions were free. There were no professional staff, no cleaners, and no proper planning. Pollution had spread unchecked.
The children’s impromptu trash cleanup had been filmed by the production team and led to an in-depth interview. That interview video was posted online that same day. The core concept of “Little Feet Big Adventure” was to capture the interaction between children and nature. Everyone on the production team worked with that mission in mind. After the interview with A Ming and the other children was posted online, it gained widespread attention.
With likes and shares from Shen Yan and Mi Huan, the video’s likes and shares exceeded hundreds of thousands in just one day. The village chief took the lead in thanking the production team. When he met Mi Huan, he was very enthusiastic. The elderly chief even grabbed Mi Huan’s hand excitedly.
“Thank you, young man.”
Mi Huan was a bit embarrassed. He thought sharing and promoting that interview video was just something he did casually. The main reason was that Shen Yan had shared it first, and he was just following Shen Yan’s lead.
Mi Huan scratched his face. “You’re welcome. I just did what I should.”
Almost all the cameras were now focused on Mi Huan talking with the village chief. Du Ze sat in the living room with his arms crossed, thinking Mi Huan would stop at nothing for fame. If he had known, he would have shared that video too. Then today’s focus would be on him! Mi Huan and the villagers were in the kitchen preparing seafood. Shen Minyan had also gone to help, wearing an apron, looking quite domestic.
Du Ze thought about joining in, but the moment he got close, the fishy smell made him want to gag. The kids in the living room were sharing snacks. Su Youli was happily eating a cod sausage. Pei Qiqi especially loved the dried mango, with its unique fruity aroma. Mi Le was an equal-opportunity eater, wanting to try everything. He had one of each. With the villagers’ arrival, the production team no longer had to worry about other filming content.
The islanders were experts at seafood. The two men pulled the seafood out of the buckets, quickly and efficiently preparing the lobsters. Shellfish were kept in a bucket of clean water, their sand already purged. A Ming’s father chatted with Mi Huan and Shen Minyan as he cleaned the seafood. The sounds of laughter and kitchen tools blended together.
