PCMWF Chapter 121

Youyou Is Sick

Even after waking up, the little guy still had a bit of a fever. The doctor placed a Stitch-brand fever-reducing patch on his forehead.

“Is it cold?” Shen Minyan asked.

The little guy didn’t have the strength to shake his head, but he really liked the Stitch patch on his forehead. Even though he was sick, he still managed to lift his little hand to touch it.

“No,” the little guy answered softly.

The doctor had interacted with the little guy many times before. Seeing him awake, he smiled and joked with him, hoping to distract him and make him feel a little better.

“Youyou, do you remember me?” The doctor wasn’t wearing a white coat. He had thrown on a jacket when he was called in late at night.

The little guy, slowed down by his illness, blinked his big, watery eyes and looked around. Finally, his gaze settled on the uncle speaking to him. The little guy pouted, turned his little face away, and burrowed into his father’s arms. He left the doctor with a view of his round little head, not wanting to talk to anyone. He just felt really uncomfortable. Tired and dizzy.

He didn’t want to say anything, didn’t want to laugh. He just wanted to curl up in his father’s arms. Even though he didn’t respond and had turned into a cool, aloof little one because of his illness, the doctor could tell the fever reducer was working. The little guy already had more energy. At least he was waking up, not sleeping through the high fever. In the second half of the night, the little guy’s condition stabilized at 37°C (98.6°F).

“Chairman Shen, we can watch over the little young master. You should get some rest.” Fevers in children could be unpredictable and needed constant monitoring.

As the Shen family’s dedicated medical team, their annual salaries were extremely high, more than they could ever earn in a hospital. It was their duty to care for the little young master until he recovered. Shen Minyan looked down and saw the small hands still clutching his collar, even in sleep.

His heart was deeply moved in this moment. He looked up and said firmly, “Thank you for your hard work. You can go back now. I’ll stay with Youyou tonight.”

The doctors said nothing. They nodded slightly to him from beside the bed and left the room.
Tang Dou stayed behind to help with the remaining tasks. He laid out the clothes and shoes Su Youli and Shen Minyan would need for the next day, so they could get dressed easily in the morning. After tidying up the bathroom, he came out to find Shen Minyan already walking slowly around the living room with Su Youli in his arms. The man’s shoulders were slightly hunched. In his strong arms lay a sleeping little one.

The little one’s fair cheeks were tinged with pink, his lips a bit dry. He was deeply dependent on his father, his hands never letting go. Under the moonlight, the man’s sharp features were softened. He looked down at his youngest son with every step. It was then that Chu Ying’s call came in. She couldn’t reach Shen Minyan, so she called Tang Dou instead.

“Xiao Tang, how is Youyou doing?” The woman’s voice was anxious.

Tang Dou glanced at Shen Minyan, who was walking with Su Youli in the living room. He turned away and reported: “Youyou is out of danger now. I’ll take his temperature again in thirty minutes. He’s feeling restless and won’t sleep in his bed, so Chairman Shen is carrying him around the room.”

Children were at their most vulnerable when sick. Even the most well-behaved child could be fussy when they didn’t feel well. If Youyou started acting up, would Shen Minyan get angry and yell at him? The little guy definitely wouldn’t be able to handle being yelled at by his dad. He would cry so hard. Tang Dou could sense Chu Ying’s lack of trust in Shen Minyan from her words.

Ultimately, this was a Shen family matter. Tang Dou didn’t plan to make any judgments. He simply said, “I’ll ask the production team if we can sync the room surveillance feed to you.”

Tang Dou’s words reminded Chu Ying. She had him pass the phone to Shen Minyan. Shen Minyan agreed without hesitation. Holding Youyou with one arm, he used his other hand to take out his phone and call the director. Within ten minutes, Chu Ying could see the surveillance feed from the father-son room on her tablet. Shen Minyan made a point of standing under the camera with Youyou in his arms. He pulled back the small blanket covering the little guy’s chin.

A little face, pale with illness, appeared on the screen. His eyes were closed, his cheeks flushed from the fever. The hair on his forehead was held up with a small clip, and a Stitch fever patch was stuck to his forehead. The sick little one looked pitiful. His feverish little hands were warm, and his little arms reached out from the blanket, holding tightly to the father who was now his only source of comfort. He was clearly sick, but sleeping soundly with steady breathing. Chu Ying finally let out a sigh of relief.

“If you get tired, let Tang Dou take over. He has experience with this.”

Shen Minyan looked up at the camera and shook his head. “I’m not tired.”

Chu Ying raised an eyebrow. Well, at least that was something a father should do. After Tang Dou took the little guy’s temperature a second time and it had returned to normal, Shen Minyan sent him to rest. By then, the sky outside was beginning to lighten. Tang Dou gave a few brief reminders and left. At five in the morning, Su Youli’s color finally returned to a healthy pale pink. Shen Minyan held him in his arms and, following the doctor’s instructions, began preparing formula for the little guy. That way, he could drink it as soon as he woke up and replenish his energy immediately. As long as a child could eat, it meant they were slowly recovering.

At seven in the morning, Pei Qiqi didn’t see Youyou in the kitchen. When he learned from the director that Youyou had developed a high fever last night, he immediately ran up to the second floor and knocked on the door. Mi Huan and Mi Le followed closely behind. Hua Zhao brought a clean plate with some breakfast. When the door opened, Youyou was back in the big bed, and Shen Minyan, who had held the little one all night, was rubbing his sore arms.

Pei Qiqi was worried, his eyes darting toward the room. “Uncle Shen, is Youyou better?”

Shen Minyan smiled faintly and nodded. “The fever has broken. You can come in.”

The little guy had woken up once earlier, still a bit dazed, and called out “Dad” in his milky voice. Shen Minyan was well aware that Youyou probably wasn’t calling for him. He had been so clingy last night likely because he and Qin Kun had similar builds. But that was fine. A substitute father was still a father. Chairman Shen was quite open-minded about it. Mi Le was led by his brother into the room, walking quietly.

“Youyou, do you feel really bad?” Mi Le was unusually well-behaved today. When his brother told him to sit on the stool by the bed, he did so obediently, without any mischief.
