The pause lasted only a moment.
Lu Chi recorded the number without changing expression, then calmly handed the phone back. Liang Zhiyu took it, visibly unsettled.
“Teacher… do you think I’ve been possessed by something?”
If Lu Chi’s call hadn’t woken him up back then, he really might have cut off Li Sheng’s neck with his own hands. Just thinking about that possibility made Liang Zhiyu’s scalp prickle. But before Lu Chi could answer, something suddenly flashed through the boy’s mind. The youth instantly sprang upright, grinding his teeth.
“You think it was Gu Yanyan casting a curse on me?!”
“Doesn’t his hometown seem to be some remote mountain area? People like that must have tons of ways to harm others! Damn it, that idiot already used me to make money, and that still wasn’t enough, now he wants to kill me too?!”
“……”
For a moment, Lu Chi genuinely failed to understand the logical connection between “living in the mountains” and “casting curses.” However, he was well-practiced at ignoring Gong No.2’s superstitions. Lowering his gaze, he continued thinking about whether this phone number and his birthday were truly a coincidence.
Lu Chi knew that for people who mattered, a birthday was an extremely special day.
He used to have many fan support groups. Every year on his birthday, they would donate to charity in his name and celebrate by taking photos. Afterwards, a long chain of posts would trend on social media, and they would enthusiastically recommend his works to passersby.
And Lu Chi always returned the goodwill. Every year, he would rent out a stadium large enough to hold a birthday event. Tickets were given away to fans by lottery, and the event lasted from morning to night. He would sing, dance, and chat with them all day, and even cover the cost of airfare, accommodation, and three meals.
He didn’t have any particularly close friends, but his fans filled in a missing piece of Lu Chi’s life. However, after thinking for a moment, though, Lu Chi stared at the unreachable number and gave up trying to find anything amiss in his memories.
There were simply too many people who loved him.
Metaphors like “surrounded by flowers” and “oil poured onto raging flames” still failed to capture the full extent of Lu Chi’s popularity. After all, everyone in the entertainment industry jokingly called him the “miracle investment drug”: whether film or television, anything he participated in was bound to shock everyone and return several times the initial investment.
He climbed step by step from the bottom to the peak, then became a walking money magnet. Hundreds of years later, after all had turned to dust, cultural history would still remember his name.
The two characters “Lu Chi” shone brilliantly.
So after a brief consideration, he cut off the automated “the number you have dialed does not exist” message and calmly put his phone away. As for who the number belonged to and the voice in Liang Zhiyu’s head, it was likely the worldline growing impatient, trying to force the plot back on track.
After all, Lu Chi’s appearance had disrupted too many characters.
In the original story, Gu Yanyan was numb and dull, becoming a blade in the Lin family’s hand, leading to his grandparents’ death. As for Liang Zhiyu, his family was destroyed, and he fell into destitution.
But now, Grandma Gu hadn’t died. Gu Yanyan hadn’t fully turned dark and become mortal enemies with Liang Zhiyu. Liang Zhiyu also hadn’t lost control because of the photos sent to him, accidentally killing his father and triggering a tragic “crematorium-style” life.
Therefore, their plotlines were already irreversibly derailed.
Lu Chi thought quietly, what kind of sudden developments would the world throw at them next? And what should he do to avoid being completely passive when that happens?
The superstitious Liang Zhiyu continued pacing restlessly on the balcony.
After a moment, the youth suddenly stopped mid-step and looked at Lu Chi. He walked closer, lowered his gaze, and asked softly, “Teacher… are you together with Liang Jiashu?”
Lu Chi raised an eyebrow, not yet answering.
Crash!
The balcony door was suddenly yanked open with force.
A tall young man stood at the doorway, looking as though he had rushed straight over after finishing the injection. His towering figure was like a cloud of black fog, instantly enveloping Lu Chi.
The thin medical gloves hadn’t even been removed.
Liang Jiashu walked in unhurriedly. At one meter eighty-seven, he was nearly half a head taller than Liang Zhiyu, looking down at him from above.
Cold, indifferent, and deathly still.
Liang Zhiyu swallowed, instinctively tensing the muscles he’d built up recently by chugging protein powder. He clenched his fists and forced himself to meet that gaze.
In the past, he would never have dared be so presumptuous toward his cousin… But perhaps love truly could make people lose their minds. Seeing Lu Chi blinking in the shadows, Liang Zhiyu felt a surge of courage rise from somewhere in his chest. So just like Gu Yanyan, he confessed his love in a deep voice, right in front of the evil dragon.
“Teacher Lu, I like you!”
“Even if you have a boyfriend, I’ll wait for you forever! I’ll work hard and make money so you’ll never have worries, never lack money to spend!”
The youth’s promise rang clear and firm, but Liang Jiashu looked at him without expression. After a moment, he stated coldly, “Your father is dead.”
“Now that you’ve said your piece, go see him one last time.”
Liang Zhiyu froze. Panic rose instantly as he looked up, then he hurried into the living room to find his mother, afraid she’d collapse from grief again.
The balcony fell quiet.
Lu Chi sat on the carpet laughing softly, nudging Liang Jiashu’s leg with his foot.
“Why are you lying?”
Liang Jiashu’s hands were very steady, and only on the bed did he play. On the experimental table… he would much rather prefer to paralyze his ‘prey’ instead of granting them merciful death.
Liang Jiashu didn’t answer. Instead, he calmly removed his gloves and knelt on one knee in front of Lu Chi. The next second, the butterfly’s face was kissed fiercely and without refusal. A burning tongue broke into his mouth roughly, occupying all his breath.
The balcony door hadn’t been fully closed. Lu Chi immediately raised an eyebrow and retreated, but Liang Jiashu pursued relentlessly, advancing on his knees and trapping Lu Chi’s legs against the narrow doorway.
The sound of water turned ambiguous. Lu Chi lowered his eyes as he inserted his fingertips into Liang Jiashu’s hair soothingly, his other hand pinching his throat again. But his knees were still bent against Liang Jiashu’s body, and the tip of his tongue was a little scarlet between the intertwining of lips and teeth, looking like a snake’s tail.
“Someone’s outside…” The man’s breathing was slightly unsteady.
Liang Jiashu’s eyes turned extremely deep as he sucked harder, licking the root of his tongue before saying, “He’s gone.”
Liang Mingzhu and the doctor had already left. What was left of Li Sheng had been moved to the bedroom, and Liang Qing and Liang Yi had gone upstairs as well. The living room was left with only Liang Zhiyu, who rushed in blankly.
But after hearing the deliberate sounds coming from the balcony, the youth’s body stiffened. After a long moment, he turned his head sluggishly and met a pair of dark, gloomy eyes.
Liang Jiashu was holding Lu Chi in his arms, kissing him without restraint.
His wide palm firmly covered Lu Chi’s snow-white cheek, while his other hand went down with great possessiveness, holding his slender waist. The man in his arms seemed to laugh softly, then stretched out his hand, and his soft fingertips landed straight on Liang Jiashu’s neck. When he squeezed hard, the back of his hand turned blue and bulging, sharp and sexy.
Liang Jiashu, who was strangled, became even more excited, playing with the man’s scarlet and beautiful tongue. He gave it a hard suck and then raised his eyes, warning everyone who dared to approach with a gloomy look.
With just one glance, Liang Zhiyu felt scalded by the overwhelming sexual tension. He turned away instantly, heart pounding wildly.
He hurried upstairs on instinct and collapsed against the wall at the stair landing. After a long while, dazed, he lowered his head and stared blankly at his pants.
Teacher Lu was seriously hot.
When being kissed, he was hot.
When strangling someone, he was hot.
His tongue and fingertips… were both hot.
So hot it made people especially want to…
Claim him personally.
…………….
The youth’s fleeing figure disappeared.
Liang Jiashu turned his head, withdrawing his gloomy gaze, and pressed his lips against Lu Chi’s earlobe, rubbing it slowly. His scorching breath flushed that cold, pale skin red.
“What did you talk about?”
Lu Chi laughed softly.
“Just asked about the number that sent the photos.”
He ignored Liang Jiashu’s small possessive gestures, indulgently letting him lick and kiss his lips fiercely for a while. Soon, he drew his tongue back and pinched the back of Liang Jiashu’s neck, asking, “Liang Jiashu, when is my birthday?”
The question came abruptly.
Asked at a moment of intimacy like that, when the brain often couldn’t react in time, people tended to answer instinctively and truthfully. So of course, Liang Jiashu replied without hesitation: “May twenty-seventh.”
It was the birthday recorded in the orphanage’s files for this world’s Lu Chi.
Lu Chi gave a calm “mm,” then casually kissed him twice, praising, “Good memory.”
Liang Jiashu paused. Perhaps because of that slightly “difficult” question, one that only lovers would ask, his mood visibly improved. After a moment, he couldn’t help adding, “I remember a lot.”
Lu Chi glanced at him with a faint, unreadable smile, broke free, and stood up, walking toward the villa entrance.
“For example?”
Li Sheng’s ending was already decided. The rest were internal matters of the Liang family, so they had neither the standing nor the interest to interfere. Liang Mingzhu likely thought the same, which was why she had taken the lead in leaving.
The two got into the car and had the driver head back to the villa. Liang Jiashu raised the partition, forcibly interlacedhis fingers with Lu Chi’s, and leaned close to his body.
“For example, you don’t actually like ice cream cones that much. It’s just an unconscious habit.”
A habit that started with the ice cream the orphanage director handed him the first time he was abandoned and went missing.
Lu Chi smiled slightly and didn’t deny Liang Jiashu’s attentiveness, saying instead, “But compared to other flavors, I still prefer sweets.”
Liang Jiashu hummed, expressionless as he leaned closer, staring at his lips.
“But I still got it right.”
“……”
Lu Chi laughed. After a moment, he kissed him, answering, “Yes, yes. You got it right again.”
Liang Jiashu stared at him steadily. Before long, he leaned in lightly once more, kissing the butterfly who stirred hearts without realizing it.
In the early autumn night of October, flowers bloomed in the greenery along the road, their fragrance rising and falling in the darkness. The black Land Rover soon passed through the floral wall, merged into the glittering traffic, and vanished from sight.
…………………..
Two days later, Lu Chi went out to meet Gu Yanyan.
Liang Jiashu didn’t say much. He just held him and kissed him for ten minutes before letting go. Recently, he seemed to have become very busy, frequently entering and leaving his private laboratory. Lu Chi went in once and discovered he was researching tracking chips.
Nano composite material.
A very tiny chip.
One that, once successfully developed, could be implanted under human tissue through minimally invasive surgery, allowing for comprehensive monitoring.
Including body temperature, heart rate, and breathing.
However, Liang Jiashu didn’t avoid the topic in front of Lu Chi, saying directly, “Since you’re unwilling to confess your secrets, I can only use my way to ensure your safety.”
…And your whereabouts.
Liang Jiashu already understood that Lu Chi knew all of his despicable, dark thoughts. And yet Lu Chi chose indulgence, responding with light kisses and smiles.
Liang Jiashu felt it must be love.
Love belonging solely to Lu Chi, unspoken, but real.
And since it was like that, he could restrain his desire for control. Like a beast pulling out its fangs, he no longer forced questions, no longer dug into answers. As long as Lu Chi stayed by his side, as long as he didn’t leave, didn’t dream of separating from him…
Liang Jiashu could ignore everything.
Including all of Lu Chi’s strangeness and differences.
Lu Chi looked at Liang Jiashu steadily. After a long while, he smiled and kissed him.
“Then I’m going.”
He waved and soon left the villa. In his mind, the system, silent for a long time, suddenly came back to life, timidly asking: [Host… has the Gong No.1 really fallen in love with you?! That’s bad! He’s so fierce… it’ll be very troublesome to leave this world later.]
Love or not…
Lu Chi stepped on the accelerator and casually brushed back his bangs, answering.
[No idea.]
But he knew one thing.
If he ever dared to bring up a breakup, Liang Jiashu would definitely make the foolish little system understand what truly counted as “being finished.”
