WBAI Chapter 62

The four of them had originally planned to stay at Shuangye Isle for five days, but after some discussion, they decided to return on the fourth day instead. Yu Feng had initially intended to leave early with Xie An’yu, letting Zhou Yi and Shi Wuyang decide their own plans. Of course, Zhou Yi wouldn’t dream of splitting up with Yu Feng—especially since this trip was meant to be casual and spontaneous, with no strict itinerary. Whether they stayed for five days or four, it was all the same.

They booked boat tickets for the evening of the fourth day and set off for the pier an hour early.

Yu Feng, worried about damaging the flowers Xie An’yu had given him, carried them carefully in his arms as he wheeled his suitcase out of the room.

Zhou Yi saw him and asked in surprise, “Where did you get those flowers?”

“My male god1男神 (nán shén): male god; (neologism) man who is typically handsome, caring or wealthy that a girl is infatuated with; one’s dream guy or Mister Right in real life; Mr Perfect; Adonis; Prince Charming; idol; originally referred to a male deity, but later evolved into a respectful title for outstanding men or idols in the online context, forming a symmetrical concept with 女神 (nǚ shén), (religion) female goddess; (neologism) (of a young female, e.g. a 白富美 (báifùměi)) the goddess of one’s heart; ideal or good-looking woman; female deity; deity; divinity; earth mother; a title for a female deity or supreme being, later it was extended to mean a woman who is kind, pure, well-educated, elegant and beautiful. In modern online culture, the term ‘male god’ specifically refers to the way young women refer to male individuals with outstanding appearance, talent, or character, including entertainment stars, social media influencers, and outstanding men around them. gave them to me.”

Zhou Yi didn’t catch on at first. He nearly blurted out, Since when do you have a male god? But after a couple of seconds, his brain caught up. He glanced at Xie An’yu. “Our island heartthrob gave them to you?”

Yu Feng hummed in agreement, while Xie An’yu stood nearby, slightly embarrassed.

Zhou Yi gave Xie An’yu a thumbs-up. “You’ve got more game than your brother.” He walked over to inspect the flowers in Yu Feng’s arms. “Nice taste, Xiao Xie.”

Xie An’yu asked Yu Feng quietly, “The flowers haven’t wilted yet?”

Yu Feng chuckled. “What do you think they are, a queen of the night2曇花 (tán huā): Dutchman’s pipe cactus; queen of the night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum); short for 優曇婆羅花 (yōutánpóluó huā, “cluster fig (Ficus racemosa)”). Epiphyllum oxypetalum, the Dutchman’s pipe cactus, princess of the night or queen of the night, is a species of cactus with a native range from Mexico to Nicaragua. It blooms nocturnally, and its flowers wilt before dawn. Though it is sometimes referred to as a night-blooming cereus, it is not closely related to any of the species in the tribe Cereeae that are more commonly known by that name. All Cereus species bloom at night and are terrestrial plants; Epiphyllum species are usually epiphytic.
Queen of the Night
? It’s only been blooming for two days—they’re not gonna wilt that fast.”

“You’re not seriously planning to carry those all the way to the pier, are you?” Zhou Yi asked.

“There’s no room in my bag. What else am I supposed to do?”

Zhou Yi let out a teasing ‘yo yo’. He jokingly said: “Don’t think I don’t know what’s going on—you’re just wanna show off.”

“Flowers from the island heartthrob? Not showing off would be inhuman.”

If he’d really wanted to flaunt it, he could’ve done so yesterday when all the fangirls came looking for Xie An’yu. There’d have been no need to wait until now.

“Show-off3騷包 (sāo bāo): (slang) alluring; showy; flashy and enticing person; painted Jezebel.,” Zhou Yi laughed, throwing his head back so far his uvula was visible.

Ding Xiaofei was the one driving Xie An’yu and the others to the pier. When he saw Yu Feng walking out of the guesthouse holding the flowers, the straight young man blushed furiously, as if the bouquet had been given to him by Xie An’yu.

He felt particularly awkward looking at Yu Feng. The fact that this man was Xie An’yu’s boyfriend was something he couldn’t immediately accept.

Sure, the guy was handsome—but was he so handsome he’d turned Xiao Dao gay?

Ding Xiaofei couldn’t wrap his head around how Xie An’yu had ended up falling for a man.

Sitting in the front passenger seat, he didn’t dare turn his head back, afraid he might catch Xie An’yu getting intimate with another guy.

In reality, Xie An’yu and Yu Feng were behaving so properly they might as well have been strangers, barely even speaking to each other.

Ding Xiaofei, a chatterbox by nature, desperately wanted to talk to Xie An’yu. Eventually, he couldn’t resist turning around to strike up a conversation.

Xie An’yu would be leaving soon—if he didn’t talk now, he might not get another chance.

When he saw Xie An’yu and Yu Feng sitting expressionlessly in the back row, without any physical contact, Ding Xiaofei let out a sigh of relief.

Xie An’yu had been gazing out the window but suddenly turned to glance at Ding Xiaofei.

Yu Feng also looked up. The moment their eyes met, Ding Xiaofei quickly turned his head back.

Feeling like he was going crazy, Ding Xiaofei pulled out his phone and sent Xie An’yu a WeChat message.

Ding Xiaofei: 【Did you know someone posted an update to that thread yesterday? The replies are insane—half the school probably knows that you have someone you like now】

Ding Xiaofei followed up with a link. Xie An’yu didn’t open it and instead asked: 【Why are you being so sneaky?】

Ding Xiaofei: 【Huh??】

Xie An’yu: 【You’re usually so talkative. Why are you so quiet today?】

Xie An’yu: 【Were you trying to say something to me just now? Your head was spinning like a top】

Ding Xiaofei was looking at his phone, shoulders shaking with laughter as he typed rapidly.

Ding Xiaofei: 【That guy was right next to you, I felt too awkward to talk to you】

Reading the message from Ding Xiaofei, Xie An’yu turned to look at Yu Feng—

His profile looked aloof, but he was undeniably handsome.

Sensing Xie An’yu’s gaze, Yu Feng turned his head slightly. “What is it?”

“Just looking at you,” Xie An’yu replied before continuing to text Ding Xiaofei.

Xie An’yu misunderstood, thinking Ding Xiaofei was intimidated because Yu Feng seemed too cold and unapproachable.

Xie An’yu: 【He’s actually really nice, not what he seems】

Xie An’yu: 【Not scary at all】

Ding Xiaofei: 【Hahahahaha, I never thought he was scary】

Ding Xiaofei: 【But it’s true, he does seem a bit aloof】

Ding Xiaofei: 【I’m just not used to it】

Ding Xiaofei: 【The fact that this guy is your boyfriend still feels like a dream to me】

Curious and a little nosy, Ding Xiaofei asked a personal question: 【Have you two… you know… done it yet?】

Xie An’yu: 【Done what?】

Just as he hit send, Yu Feng suddenly leaned in and kissed his ear, whispering in a low voice, “Are you going to ignore me after you’re done looking?”

Xie An’yu turned his head, and Yu Feng was still close to his ear. When their faces brushed, his lips accidentally brushed against Yu Feng’s.

The two of them had, in a way, sort of kissed. Yu Feng calmly turned his face away, his expression unchanging.

Xie An’yu froze for a couple of seconds before looking back at his phone.

Ding Xiaofei followed up on his earlier question: 【Kissing】

Xie An’yu: 【Mm】

Ding Xiaofei: 【!】

Ding Xiaofei: 【What does it feel like to kiss a guy?】

Xie An’yu: 【…】

Xie An’yu: 【Are male and female lips built differently or something?】

Ding Xiaofei: 【Hahahaha4紅紅火火恍恍惚惚 (hóng hóng huǒ huǒ huǎng huǎng hū hū): lit. flourishing and prosperous, befuddled and stupefied; (Mainland China, Internet slang) LOL. An Internet buzzword that evolved from an input method associative phrase triggered by the continuous input of the letter “h”. It was originally an alternative expression of “hahahahahahaha”, reflecting the user’s lazy and self-deprecating characteristics.. All syllables of this term have an h- initial. This is one of the suggestions made by a Pinyin input method when typing “hhhhhhhh” to get 哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈 (hāhāhāhāhāhāhāhā, “sound of laughter”). As it spread, the word gradually evolved into a way to describe a person who is in a trance and at a loss when facing a major event, and gave rise to cultural phenomena such as the second couplet and the creation of complete sentences, and was widely used on platforms such as Weibo and Danmu. hahahahaha】

Ding Xiaofei: 【No, I’m just curious—does kissing a guy feel different from kissing a girl?】

Xie An’yu: 【You have some unique curiosities】

Xie An’yu: 【I’ve never kissed a girl before】

Xie An’yu: 【If you’re really that curious, go find a guy and try it】

Ding Xiaofei: 【Fuck, are you trying to kill me? What’s gotten into you? Who taught you to be this evil?】

Xie An’yu chuckled and didn’t reply.

What did kissing Yu Feng feel like?

It was soft, comfortable. One kiss just made him want to keep kissing, and kissing, and kissing.

It was just that simple and intense of a feeling.

Ding Xiaofei saw Xie An’yu off at the pier—just like he had four months ago. He didn’t know when Xie An’yu would return, but he knew that Xie An’yu’s future would only get better and better.

Xie An’yu boarded the ferry after checking his ticket and glanced back at Ding Xiaofei, who waved at him, just as he had four months ago. Ding Xiaofei didn’t say anything, just smiled with squinted eyes.

Xie An’yu waved back in farewell.

As Xie An’yu disappeared from view, Ding Xiaofei looked up at the distant sky, where the sunset painted the horizon over the sea.

Ding Xiaofei’s phone buzzed in his hand. He checked it.

Xie An’yu: 【Take care of yourself】

Xie An’yu: 【Stay happy】

Ding Xiaofei sniffled as he read the messages.

Zhou Yi pushed his suitcase to the bedroom door and sighed. “Back to this damn bed where I can’t even stretch my legs. I need a full massage when we get back.”

Yu Feng was still holding the bouquet of flowers, cradling it the entire ride in the car. Zhou Yi glanced at him, unable to hold back a laugh. “You’re really being a show-off.”

Yu Feng smirked. “Better get used to it. I’m going to hold them the whole way back on the high-speed train.”

Shi Wuyang chuckled. “A show-off? I think it’s pretty romantic. Passersby would just envy him for having such a thoughtful partner.”

Zhou Yi gave him a sidelong glance, thinking to himself that this guy was definitely the type to fall for this—after all, he had impeccable taste and style, always smelling nice in the office, dressed sharply and wearing cologne.

Once inside, Yu Feng finally set down the small bouquet of daisies he’d been showing off the whole way. The flowers were actually quite delicate and understated, a petite bunch that made him seem gentler just by holding them.

“How about we find a bag for them?” Xie An’yu suggested. “Carrying them like that—won’t your arms get sore?”

“They’re from the Island Heartthrob. I’d hold them even if they were a shot put.”

Xie An’yu ducked his head, laughing.

“Go take a shower,” Yu Feng said, lightly patting the back of his head.

The room was still as cramped as ever, the only thing that had changed was the relationship and atmosphere between the two of them. When Xie An’yu first arrived, he’d been as cramped as the tiny space itself, struggling to even hold a normal conversation with Yu Feng.

After his shower, Xie An’yu lay on the bed scrolling through his phone, idly flipping through the forum post Ding Xiaofei had sent him.

The number of replies had more than doubled since yesterday, and Xie An’yu even stumbled upon a photo of Yu Feng.

He paused at one particular comment—a photo was attached, and the replies beneath it stretched for pages.

The photo of Yu Feng must have been a candid shot taken as they were leaving the guesthouse, just before getting into the car. It was a profile shot, so his face wasn’t fully visible.

#The case is solved—the flowers were for the other handsome guy~

-Wow, just from the side profile, he looks so handsome.

-No need to guess, he is handsome. He came with XAY; I saw him at Maple Moon Bay—super handsome in person~

-How did you guys even get a follow-up shot… You sisters are wasting your talents not being gossip reporters.

-I’m starting to think people from our school have the potential to be paparazzi.

-We got a follow-up this fast? It was worth obsessively refreshing this post for two days!

-So Xie An’yu is gay? No wonder he always seemed indifferent to the girls in class.

-LOL he’s indifferent to guys too, okay?

-I call BS. I refuse to believe he’s gay.

-+100865T/N: A mobile service number in China and also a Chinese internet slang for ‘I completely agree’., I don’t believe it either. They’re probably just friends.

-Stop lying to yourselves. Didn’t a girl hear him say the flowers were for someone he liked? It’s a foregone conclusion.

-Who understands? I suddenly feel at peace with myself.

-+1 I get it.

-+2, Me too.

-+3.

-+4.

……

Xie An’yu zoomed in on Yu Feng’s photo, studying it intently. Just then, Yu Feng pushed open the bathroom door and stepped out. Lost in thought, Xie An’yu looked up—but he’d been holding his phone in the same position for too long, and the sudden movement sent it slipping from his grip, smacking him in the mouth.

Yu Feng glanced at the bed, where Xie An’yu was now covering his lips and fishing around under the blankets for his phone.

Yu Feng walked over, leaning down to inspect him. He gently pulled Xie An’yu’s hand away to check his mouth. “Did it hit your lips?”

Xie An’yu mumbled yes.

“Any cuts inside?”

Xie An’yu instinctively licked the inside of his cheek, tasting a faint metallic tang.

“Yeah.”

“What were you looking at so intently that you hit yourself with your phone?” Yu Feng took a tissue from his bag, gently parted Xie An’yu’s lips, and wiped the blood from his mouth.

“I was reading that post from yesterday.”

Yu Feng chuckled. “Still reading it?”

“There’s a follow-up.”

“What kind of follow-up?”

“Someone took a photo of you.”

Yu Feng paused, then said, “The people on your island would do well working for tabloids.”

“They all know I like you now,” Xie An’yu said, staring at Yu Feng.

Yu Feng lowered his head and gently rubbed his nose against Xie An’yu’s. “Then they must be insanely jealous of me.”

Xie An’yu smiled, the corners of his mouth aching faintly.

“Are you scared?” Yu Feng asked him. “Scared that they know you like a man.”

“If I were scared, they wouldn’t have found out those flowers were for the person I like.”

Yu Feng hooked a finger under Xie An’yu’s lower lip. “Can I continue what we started in the car?”

Xie An’yu was a little slow to respond. “What…?”

“Kissing you.”

In Xie An’yu’s mind, he instantly replayed the image of their lips accidentally brushing against each other in the car.

Xie An’yu shifted toward the wall, turning on his side to make room for Yu Feng on the narrow bed. His posture seemed to be inviting Yu Feng to lie down.

Yu Feng laughed. “Kissing while lying down?”

Xie An’yu made a motion to sit up. “Should we sit instead?”

Yu Feng pressed him back down by the shoulders and lay beside him, their faces inches apart.

“Lying down it is,” Yu Feng murmured before kissing him, his tongue slowly tracing the cut on Xie An’yu’s lip, tasting a hint of blood.

The truth was, Xie An’yu just wanted to lie with Yu Feng, but the bed was too narrow—they had to lie on their sides to avoid falling off.

They pressed tightly against each other, every inch of their bodies fitting perfectly together, leaving no space in between.

“Brother…” Xie An’yu mumbled against Yu Feng’s lips.

Yu Feng hummed, breath uneven.

“Turn off the light…”

Yu Feng reached for the switch on the bedside table and flicked it off.

He pulled away from Xie An’yu’s lips and chuckled softly. “You’re not expecting me to stay here all night, are you?”

Xie An’yu held Yu Feng’s waist and hummed in agreement.

“Then you’ll probably find me on the floor tomorrow morning.”

Xie An’yu laughed, the sound swallowed by Yu Feng’s lips.

Xie An’yu’s hands roamed over Yu Feng’s abdomen through his clothes. He pressed himself closer as heat built between them.

In a low voice, Xie An’yu repeated ‘Brother’ over and over again. His tone had no inflection, but his emotions raw in every stifled breath.

They tangled together, Xie An’yu’s teeth grazing Yu Feng’s neck. The constant friction became unbearable, and he couldn’t help but bite Yu Feng’s neck.

Youthful vigor was no exaggeration.

Sweat beaded on Xie An’yu’s forehead as Yu Feng brushed a thumb over his cheek. “Need Brother Yu’s help again?”

Xie An’yu’s shirt had long been pushed up. He bit down on the hem of his shirt and gave a muffled affirmation.

Yu Feng chuckled softly. “I’m worried you’ll ruin your health from overindulgence.”

Xie An’yu pressed his forehead into the crook of Yu Feng’s shoulder, sweat dampening his temples.

“You’ll need proper nourishment when we get back,” Yu Feng murmured.
