LNTSWJLY Chapter 1

Wealthy Old Man: I treated you like a son, but you... (1)

S City, Shenghua Hotel.

The dazzling crystal chandeliers spun in the air, casting a mottled and magnificent brilliance.

The red wine in the glass became even more captivating under the light, as a long and immaculate hand delicately held the glass. The distinct joints of the fingers resembled a flawless piece of art carved by the heavens.

The owner of the hand lowered his gaze, staring at the wine glass in his hand as if in contemplation. A streak of light flashed by, making his deep eyes even more profound in that moment.

“President Yu, this is my son, who has always admired you but never had the chance to meet you. Today, I took the liberty of bringing him here to meet you. I wonder if he has the honor to witness your charm by your side?”

A well-preserved middle-aged man wore a flattering smile, his entire face filled with eagerness to please. His tone was respectful yet cautious, as he reached out and forcibly pulled up the stiff young man sitting next to him, ignoring the other’s refusal, and pushed him in front of Yu Zhi.

Yu Zhi didn’t spare the middle-aged man more than a glance. Instead, his gaze landed lightly on the person next to him.

The young man had an exceptionally eye-catching face, with bright eyes and white teeth. His lips were a deep red, and his peach blossom eyes added a touch of charm that ordinary men lacked, making him particularly attractive.

However, the clear and transparent eyes in those eyes were pure and untainted, without a trace of impurity or wickedness, contrasting sharply with his seductive appearance, yet even more enticing. Wearing a white shirt, he exuded an aura of purity.

At this moment, his complexion was pale, and although he feigned composure, his eyes couldn’t hide the fear and unease, like a rabbit trapped in a wolf’s den, donning a layer of hedgehog skin, attempting to conceal the inner turmoil.

Yu Zhi casually glanced over, lifting a glass of red wine and taking a sip.

Having seen the original plotline, he knew exactly what time it was.

The target of the mission, Yin Xu, was abducted in childhood, begging for several years before being sent to an orphanage. Ten years later, Yin Xu left the orphanage as an adult, barely managed to get into a second-tier university but had to consider dropping out due to lack of funds.

At this moment, the couple from the Lin family, claiming to be his biological parents, found him and tearfully recognized him as their son.

At first, under the intentional closeness of the Lin family, Yin Xu thought they were sincere. However, after moving his household registration to the Lin family, they revealed their true colors.

The Lin family favored the son they adopted after Yin Xu went missing, and they hadn’t looked for him in all these years. Now, bringing him back was merely to exploit him for their benefit.

If Yin Xu refused, they would use his identity card as a threat, preventing him from registering even if he had the money, and he wouldn’t be able to find a job without an education. On the other hand, if he agreed to the Lin family’s demands, they would promise to pay his tuition and send him to university.

Under coercion and temptation, Yin Xu had no choice but to agree to their demands, bewilderedly led by Mr. Lin to this banquet, and brought before the original host.

The original host wasn’t interested in men and refused. Following the principle of maximizing benefits, Mr. Lin chose another man to send. This man not only was older but also had a sadistic tendency in bed. Eventually, driven to desperation by the unbearable situation, Yin Xu accidentally killed him in a fit of agitation. Yin Xu was arrested and, before the trial, committed suicide in prison.

The Lin family not only suffered no losses but also seized the opportunity to take advantage of the chaos in the company, which was in disarray due to the absence of its leader, and gained a considerable amount of benefits. This further expanded and strengthened the Lín family’s position in the city.

Riding on the wealth and status acquired from Yin Xu’s demise, no one seemed to think there was anything wrong.

Even the two sons of the Lin family, who were the protagonists of this world, continued to live affluent lives as if Yin Xu had never existed.

Just transferred from the Ministry of Education to the Rescue Department, Yu Zhi wasn’t yet proficient in his duties, but he knew what he should do at that moment.

He set down his wine glass, parted his lips lightly, and uttered two words: “Understood.”

The boy’s body stiffened even more, a hint of fear fading from his eyes, replaced by cold resentment. Though fleeting, it was enough for Yu Zhi to see clearly.

With a broad smile, Mr. Lin pushed the boy into Yu Zhi’s arms. “Then I’ll leave this child in President Yu’s care. He’s still young and may misbehave. If he does anything wrong, don’t hesitate to discipline him severely. It’s his good fortune to learn from President Yu!”

Yu Zhi felt the body crashing into his arms and instinctively wanted to break free and resist, but he forcibly restrained himself. The boy’s face also feigned composure, but he probably didn’t realize that his body was trembling slightly.

It was an involuntary reaction, uncontrollable and impossible to conceal.

He was scared.

Terrified, even.

Yu Zhi reached out to help him stand properly, without taking advantage of the situation. “In that case, I’ll take him with me.”

With the mission target secured, there was no need for him to stay any longer.

The people present all thought that Yu Zhi had just acquired a beauty and couldn’t wait to taste the flavor. While inwardly chuckling at the seemingly dignified Yu Zhi, who was so eager, they also jokingly coaxed, “Looks like President Yu is in a hurry and not in the mood. We can’t keep him here. Xiao Lin, I wonder if your son can cheer President Yu up.”

Everyone present knew exactly what the so-called ‘son’ was all about – just a thing picked up from the orphanage, good for casual play and nothing more. But as for Lin’s father, using this cheap son to earn a billion-dollar project, it was a no-risk deal that evoked feelings of envy and jealousy among the onlookers.

A middle-aged man, referred to as Lin by someone younger than himself, showed no signs of embarrassment or anger. Instead, he smiled and said, “If he’s not good yet, he can always learn. As long as President Yu is willing to teach, I believe he’ll pick it up.”

Yu Zhi felt the boy’s body trembling more and more violently, but he didn’t say anything further. He simply got up and said, “Tonight’s expenses are on me. I hope everyone enjoys the meal.”

He picked up his suit jacket hanging on the rack and, seeing that the boy hadn’t followed, turned back and looked at him. “Come with me.”

With that, he turned and left.

The boy glanced at him, then cast another look at the lecherous men in the room whose eyes couldn’t conceal their lust. Clenching his teeth, he caught up with Yu Zhi’s figure.

Even a fool knew how to make the right choice between being alone and surrounded by a group.

As they sat in the car heading home, the boy sat on the other side, leaving a space of one person between them.

Yu Zhi leaned against the car window, seemingly resting with his eyes closed, but in reality, he was recalling the memories of this body.

The original Yu Zhi, aged thirty-nine this year, had been the head of the Yu family since his twenties. Under his leadership, the Yu family grew to become the top power in S City and one of the best in the country.

As the richest man in S City, the original Yu Zhi lacked nothing except for a sudden death. His only son was still young and incompetent, unable to inherit the family business, leading to the swift decline of the Yu family.

Willing to give up his body, it was also to fulfill the wishes of the mission giver, to cultivate an outstanding successor, and to continue the glory of the Yu family.

Yu Zhi’s first choice in his mind was the original owner’s son, who had just turned ten this year. The child’s birth mother abandoned him to the original owner as soon as he was born, running away with money in hand. Over the years, the original owner had been busy with work and had no time to educate the child. As a result, the child lacked both scholarly and martial skills, displaying a spoiled attitude at a young age. He was adept at relying on his father’s influence to get his way in everything he did.

Unthinkingly, Yu Zhi blurted out, “This is outrageous!”

He didn’t notice the slight tremble in the boy’s body at his words, nor did he notice the boy subtly inching closer to him, hesitant to retreat to the corner.

Back at home, Yu Zhi led the boy inside and, feeling the effects of alcohol, he just wanted to sleep. Teaching the child could wait until he woke up. He was a little drunk, and scaring the child wouldn’t be good.

Whether the child was mischievous or pitiful, he would have to wait until he sobered up before teaching him anything.

Loosening his tie as he walked towards the room, he deliberately softened his tone, “Let’s sleep first tonight. We can talk about it tomorrow. I’ll go take a shower first.”

The bathroom door closed shut.

The boy stood in place, clutching his pants, replaying the man’s words in his mind.

“Sleep first…”

“Talk tomorrow…”

“Take a shower…”

Even his voice deliberately softened…

His eyes glistened with moisture, but he stubbornly refused to let them fall. Biting his lip, he finally made a decision.

Yu Zhi finished showering and came out. Seeing that all the lights in the room were off, he figured the boy must have fallen asleep. He dried his hair, then lay down on the bed, ready to sleep.

The bedroom was warm, with thick curtains blocking out the stars and moon, as well as the chilly night breeze. The fresh scent of jasmine permeated the air quietly.

As he sank into the soft bed, Yu Zhi’s hand casually reached out. The next moment, he felt something delicate, soft, and warm. He quickly opened his eyes.

What is that?!

With a swift kick, the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground and a soft cry entered his ears simultaneously.

Thunk!

“Ah…”

Author’s Note:

When I started writing this, I wanted to create some old-fashioned, illogical melodramatic stories (like those from over a decade ago where the female lead was forced into a master-servant relationship to repay gambling debts, or where a genius baby hatched by a surrogate mother ran away with her father). Even though the subsequent worlds are out of my control, the first world was set up like this, so please don’t try to tell me how unrealistic or illogical the setup is. Both the author and the readers know it lacks logic. Also, the whole story revolves around romance, with fragmented plotlines or rather no plot at all, just emotions, all mushy and lovey-dovey, with a writing style matching the title, a bit pretentious and poetic. But, I like it.
