As soon as He Muyan spoke these words, everyone in the room except Song Li gasped in shock. Lian Jiu, who was closest to them, widened his eyes in utter disbelief, momentarily suspecting that his ears were playing tricks on him.
It must be a hallucination.
Otherwise, how could they possibly hear He Muyan acting clingy and spoiled toward someone in such a sticky and sappy voice?
This was He Muyan… acting spoiled!
Lian Jiu felt his entire worldview completely shattered at this moment.
Song Li, however, had recently gotten used to him being like this. What’s more, since He Muyan had drunk so much alcohol right now, he likely had no clear awareness of what he was doing.
Song Li reached out, stroked his hair, and coaxed him in a soft voice, “I won’t talk to anyone else; I’ll only talk to you. Let go of me first, and I’ll take you home, alright?”
It was unclear whether He Muyan actually heard his voice or not. He let out a couple of soft, nasal hums, but wrapped his arms around him even tighter.
Helpless, Song Li turned his head to look at Lian Jiu beside them, “It’s not very convenient for me physically right now. Could you help me lift him up first? We can’t just keep stalling like this.”
Lian Jiu glanced at him, then looked down at He Muyan, who was clinging to him like a sloth, and said reluctantly, “T-this… isn’t a good idea, is it? I’m afraid Brother Yan will beat me up.”
Unable to stand his cowardly attitude, Song Li chuckled helplessly and said, “He’s completely drunk like this, how could he possibly beat you up?”
“That’s because you don’t know Brother Yan, Sister-in-law! You haven’t seen how ruthlessly he beats people when he’s drunk!” Lian Jiu became somewhat emotional as if recalling the bloody scenes, he had personally witnessed in the past. He shook his head repeatedly and backed away, “No, no, I don’t dare. Sister-in-law, don’t set me up, I really don’t dare.”
Song Li really didn’t know what He Muyan had done in the past to terrify a grown man like this. Realizing the guy was completely unreliable, he said helplessly, “You guys aren’t helping much by staying here anyway. Why don’t you take everyone outside first? But don’t leave and wait outside, come back in when I call you in a bit.”
Lian Jiu thought for a moment, “Alright then, we’ll go out first. Sister-in-law, you coax him first, and I’ll be right outside. If you need anything, I’m on call.”
What did he mean by “you coax him first”, did he really treat He Muyan like a seven or eight-year-old child?
Lian Jiu left with the group of people in a synchronized wave. Once the private room’s door shut, the room that had been noisy and chaotic instantly quieted down quite a bit.
Song Li looked down at the person in his arms, poking the crown of his head with a finger, “Alright, everyone is gone now, it’s just the two of us. Can you let go of me now?”
He Muyan didn’t react much, though his breathing grew slightly heavier.
Song Li withdrew his finger and continued patiently, “The smell of alcohol here is really strong, and staying for too long makes me uncomfortable. Shall we go home?”
As soon as Song Li said this, he immediately felt the arms He Muyan had wrapped around him stiffen slightly. A moment later, he slowly raised his head from Song Li’s chest.
Song Li looked at him, the corners of his lips curling into a smile.
“Are you willing to get up now?”
He knew that He Muyan couldn’t bear to let him feel uncomfortable.
Even though Song Li was standing against the light, his eyes remained clear and bright.
Looking at him like this, He Muyan felt an itch in his heart. He tilted his head up and went straight in for a kiss. Song Li was met with a mouth full of alcohol fumes and turned away in discomfort, “You’re covered in the smell of alcohol, it smells terrible.”
He Muyan panted, his eyes completely bloodshot while calling out to him in a raspy voice, “Lili.”
Seeing him like this, Song Li felt a bit of pity. He glanced at the tightly closed door, thinking that with that kid Lian Jiu keeping watch outside, nothing should go wrong.
Feeling a bit more at ease, he plucked up his courage, bent down slightly, and reached his hand down.
He Muyan let out a muffled groan, his spine arching violently as if hit by an intense surge of stimulation, while his grip on Song Li’s arm tightening forcefully.
Enduring the pain, Song Li’s face flushed bright red.
“I… I don’t have much experience. Don’t push it too hard, make it quick. Once it’s done, we’ll hurry home…”
He Muyan’s eyes were stark red. He placed a large hand on the back of Song Li’s head and ran his fingers through his hair with his rough pads rubbing back and forth against the smooth, fair scalp.
No one knew how much time had passed, but just as Song Li’s hand was turning completely numb, He Muyan finally tilted his head back, his Adam’s apple bobbing violently, and released a heavy, drawn-out groan through his nose with his eyes closed.
It was finally over. Even though it was clear that He Muyan was the one who had enjoyed himself just now, Song Li was the one who currently felt completely weak and exhausted.
His whole body felt thoroughly drained, and he didn’t even want to move as he leaned in He Muyan’s arms.
He Muyan seemed a bit more sober than before. He pulled out a few tissues from the side to wipe Song Li’s hands, occasionally ducking his head to peck his face twice, “Lili was so amazing just now.”
Song Li was too embarrassed to pay attention to him. Even after his hands had been wiped clean, he could still distinctly feel a sticky residue clinging to them.
“Is that enough? Stop tormenting me, I want to go home.”
He Muyan took a light bite of his glowing red earlobe, letting out a soft hum, “Let me kiss you a little more.”
They lingered inside for a long while, so long that Lian Jiu was almost fast asleep outside by the time the private room door finally opened from the inside.
Lian Jiu perked up instantly, jumping up to look inside, “Sister-in-law, you guys are finally done! Is Brother Yan…”
Lian Jiu stopped mid-sentence when he saw He Muyan slowly walking out with Song Li in his arms. Whether it was his cool, composed expression or his strong, steady arms effortlessly carrying Song Li despite his heavily pregnant belly, he looked completely no different from his usual self.
Where was there even a trace of the thoroughly intoxicated state he was in earlier?
On the contrary, Song Li, who had originally come to pick him up and bring him home, was now the one who seemed somewhat dazed and out of it. Not only was he being carried out, but half of his face peeking out from He Muyan’s chest was also as red as a burning sunset cloud as well. His skin was naturally delicate, and against that white backdrop, the vivid flush gave off an inexplicably intoxicating charm.
Lian Jiu couldn’t help but swallow hard.
He Muyan’s ice-cold voice suddenly rang in his ears, “Xiao Jiu.”
Lian Jiu snapped back to reality, letting out a startled “Huh?”
It felt as though countless frigid daggers were flying out of He Muyan’s eyes, scraping painfully across his skin.
Lian Jiu understood instantly. He immediately turned around and covered his eyes.
“My fault, I deserve to die! I won’t dare do it again, Brother Yan! You guys should leave quickly the air in here is too stuffy, Sister-in-law will feel uncomfortable if he stays too long!”
“I don’t need your concern,” He Muyan snorted before instructing him, “Call someone over to drive.”
With that said, he carried Song Li and walked straight outside.
Lian Jiu peered through the cracks of his fingers at their departing figures, only releasing a cold-sweat-drenched sigh of relief once they were gone.
It was already very late when they returned home. Song Li had fallen asleep on the way back from exhaustion, so He Muyan didn’t wake him, carrying him directly upstairs instead.
Reeking of alcohol, he carefully placed Song Li on the bed before turning around and going into the bathroom to take a shower.
Perhaps the noise from his shower was too loud, because when He Muyan stepped out, he saw Song Li rubbing his eyes and yawning, looking completely drowsy.
He Muyan walked over and asked softly, “Did I wake you?”
Song Li opened his eyes to look at him, shaking his head, “I don’t know why I woke up. You’re done showering?”
He Muyan nodded, bending down closer to him, “Can you still smell any alcohol?”
Song Li pressed against his chest, sniffed carefully, and shook his head with satisfaction, “Nope.”
He Muyan tossed the bath towel aside and bent down to get onto the bed.
Just as he was about to pull him into his arms, Song Li pressed against his chest to prevent him from getting closer.
He Muyan looked down at him, “What is it?”
Song Li reached out to unbutton his knit cardigan, “I haven’t changed into my pajamas yet.”
He Muyan sat up, helping him unbutton the cardigan, “I’ll take them off for you.”
After removing his outer clothes and leaving only his undershirt, He Muyan didn’t fetch his pajamas for him right away. Instead, he leaned back slightly and bent down, gently drawing near his belly.
He planted a kiss through the thin layer of fabric, then pressed his ear against it to listen carefully to the movements within.
“I haven’t talked to the baby in a long time. Do you think he might have forgotten my voice?”
Song Li smiled gently, “It’s so late, the baby should be asleep already too.”
He Muyan hummed in response, lying there listening for a long time until his legs grew numb, only then getting up to lie back down.
Song Li rested his head on his arm and reached out to hug his waist, “You drank a lot of alcohol tonight. Aren’t you sleepy yet? Hurry up and sleep.”
With his eyes half-closed, He Muyan’s voice softened considerably, “I’m going to sleep right now… Lili…”
“Hmm?”
Song Li was still waiting for whatever came next, but He Muyan seemed to have already fallen asleep, his breathing even and deep.
Song Li smiled, let out a yawn, then nestled back against his chest and tightly closed his eyes.
Perhaps because he had slept so comfortably throughout the night, He Muyan’s hangover symptoms weren’t that severe when he woke up the next day. He only felt a bit dizzy upon getting up, but after having breakfast, the discomfort was basically gone.
Song Li stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, carefully stretching his body. The weather was lovely today, even though it was the season of bleak autumn winds, their courtyard was still filled with many evergreens. The emerald-green leaves glistened beneath the morning sunlight, accompanied by the cheerful chirping of unfamiliar birds, and Song Li genuinely enjoyed the beautiful scenery before him.
Although it was a brand-new day, unresolved issues didn’t simply wash away with time.
While twisting his body in the sunlight, Song Li pondered in his heart how he should bring up yesterday’s matter with He Muyan later.
Life has been too peaceful and comfortable recently. However, due to He Muyan’s work, the two of them often spent more time apart than together. A few days here and there were fine, but as time dragged on, certain drawbacks and problems slowly began to surface.
Take yesterday’s incident, for example; it wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small either. Song Li felt that in certain areas, they were unconsciously starting to lack communication again.
After finishing his meal, He Muyan spent some time chatting with Auntie Chen off to the side. It was unclear what they were discussing, but He Muyan looked quite happy, his eyes still holding a smile as he walked over.
“Lili.”
He Muyan walked to his side, first ducking his head to kiss him, then crouching down to plant a kiss on his belly.
“Did the baby miss Papa?”
Looking at the overflowing indulgence in his eyes, Song Li called out softly, “He Muyan.”
Hearing his name, He Muyan raised his head. Just as Song Li was about to speak, he was suddenly interrupted by a ringtone.
He Muyan glanced back, “It’s your phone, I’ll get it for you.”
The words were already on the tip of his tongue when he was suddenly cut off. Song Li wanted to tell him to ignore the call for now and finish talking first, but He Muyan had already retrieved his phone and walked back, “It’s Xue Sang.”
Song Li froze for a moment before taking the phone.
Xue Sang had been extremely busy recently and hadn’t contacted him in a long time, so Song Li wondered if there was some urgent matter for him to call out of the blue.
Setting aside what he was thinking about a moment ago, Song Li took the phone and answered it.
“Hello, Xiao Sang.”
“Lili, what are you doing?”
Song Li turned his head to glance around: “Nothing much, just at home.”
“You homebody, the weather is so nice today, it’d be such a waste not to come out for a stroll. Come over to my shop in a bit. Once I finish my last few orders, I’ll close up, and we’ll go fishing.”
Song Li froze for a moment, “Ah, that’s so sudden.”
“What’s so sudden about going out to have fun? When you say go, you go! Oh right, is that man of yours working today? If he’s off, bring him along too.”
Xue Sang sounded as if he were just mentioning it casually, but the awkwardness in his tone was still noticeable. It couldn’t be helped, he had always held a prejudice against He Muyan, so inviting him along on an outing like today was truly an unprecedented first.
Song Li instinctively turned to look at the man beside him. He Muyan was yawning, standing right there waiting for him to finish his call despite feeling bored.
Song Li smiled and replied to Xue Sang, “Sure, we’ll pack up in a bit and head over right away.”
As soon as Song Li hung up, he was immediately wrapped in a tight embrace from behind. He Muyan ducked his head to kiss his neck, asking indistinctly, “What does your friend want with you again? You’re going out? Lili isn’t staying home to keep me company today?”
Song Li felt that He Muyan was getting better and better at playing pity-party before him nowadays. Smiling, he raised his hand to pat his hair, “Xiao Sang said the weather is nice today and invited me to go fishing.”
“Fishing? That’ll take forever.” He Muyan knitted his brows, holding him and swaying gently, “Lili…”
Losing his balance from the swaying, Song Li said helplessly, “Stop acting spoiled. I haven’t met up with Xiao Sang in a long time and today is a rare opportunity.”
Seeing that his tactic hadn’t worked, He Muyan immediately drooped his brows and eyes, his whole aura turning somber.
Knowing what he was thinking, Song Li suppressed a smile and said, “Let go of me quickly, I need to change.”
He Muyan let out a faint sigh, released the hands holding him, and backed away reluctantly.
After taking two steps, Song Li turned back to look at him, “Aren’t you coming over? We won’t make it in time if you keep dawdling.”
He Muyan raised his head to look at him, the dullness in his brows and eyes bit by bit springing back to life, “Lili, I can go too?”
Song Li nodded, “If you don’t want to go, that’s fine too. I…”
“I’ll go with you,” He Muyan interrupted him, eagerly walking to his side. “Let’s go, Lili, let me help you change quickly.”
Pulled along for a couple of steps, Song Li couldn’t take it and said, “Slow down a bit, I can’t keep up.”
Hearing this, He Muyan simply turned around and scooped him up into his arms all at once.
This man, normally looking so dead serious and old-fashioned, would still reveal his childlike nature whenever he truly ran into something that made him happy.
The weather is much colder now than before. Since Song Li spent most of his time indoors, he hadn’t really noticed it, but once he stepped outside, he realized it was indeed a little chilly. Knowing that he was susceptible to the cold, He Muyan bundled him up layer upon layer while dressing him.
Song Li was practically wrapped up like a sticky rice dumpling. Seeing He Muyan grab a cashmere scarf from the side as well, he quickly waved his hand with a face full of resistance, “Let’s skip the scarf, alright? I went out for a walk yesterday too, it’s not that cold outside, plus the sun is so bright today.”
He Muyan glanced out the window, and only then did he put the scarf back down.
Song Li let out a sigh of relief before reaching to tug at the collar of his turtleneck sweater. He usually didn’t go out much and dressed in loose, easy-to-move-in clothes, prioritizing comfort above all else. Dressing like this all of a sudden only made him feel constricted and uncomfortable all over.
Though Song Li was slender by nature, after months of resting and nourishing himself during pregnancy, aside from his growing belly, the rest of his body had rounded out somewhat as well.
His cheeks looked significantly plumber now. Half-covered by the wide sweater collar, he resembled a white glutinous rice ball. Looking at him, He Muyan couldn’t resist leaning over to take a gentle bite.
“Lili is so soft.”
Finding him childish, Song Li pushed him away and straightened his clothes, “Let’s hurry and go, Xiao Sang will get impatient waiting in a bit.”
He Muyan stroked his hair that had been ruffled from the rubbing, “Alright.”
By the time they arrived at Xue Sang’s shop, it was almost ten in the morning. The last customer had just left, and Xue Sang flipped the ‘Open’ sign at the entrance to ‘Closed’ before going inside with Ye Yi to clean up and pack.
Song Li looked at the equipment Ye Yi was loading into the trunk, feeling a bit surprised, “Your gear is so complete, isn’t this a bit too professional?”
Xue Sang scoffed from the side, “This is nothing, just a small deal. You just haven’t seen the world. My husband even won first place in our city’s fishing competition before; the prize money was this much.”
Looking at the fingers he held up, Song Li didn’t care much about the prize amount, only thinking that Ye Yi was truly impressive. Fishing wasn’t an ordinary test of one’s patience and character; those who disliked fishing felt that sitting there for five minutes was a waste of life, but those who loved it could find real joy in it and often even getting more and more hooked the longer they fished.
Ye Yi gave off the impression of someone who could stay calm, composed, and steady. Given time, a person like him would surely accomplish great things.
Song Li seemed to suddenly understand why Xue Sang always looked at Ye Yi through the lens of idol worship, Ye Yi truly deserved it.
He was so deep in thought that his eyes unconsciously followed the busy Ye Yi, causing him to momentarily forget about the person standing right beside him.
It wasn’t until a hand suddenly settled on his shoulder and pulled him slightly to the side with some force.
Song Li bumped into He Muyan’s chest and looked up at him in slight confusion.
He Muyan wore sunglasses on his face and didn’t say a word, his face completely stern and looking deadly cool.
Just as Song Li was about to ask what was wrong, he heard Xue Sang let out a sneer from the side, snorting softly, “Childish.”
He Muyan acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, ignoring him completely.
Caught between the two of them, Song Li shook his head helplessly.
After a short while, Ye Yi finished packing up. Closing the trunk, he turned around to look at them, “Alright, we can head out now.”
Xue Sang ran over, reached out to wipe his sweat with his sleeve, then jumped up to plant a loud kiss on his cheek, “Laogong is the best!”
Ye Yi placed his arm around his waist, looking at him with an indulgent smile.
The other two stood nearby, practically drowning in their sweetness. Song Li had long since gotten used to it, but after a brief pause, He Muyan suddenly lowered his head and asked him, “Those two are married too?”
Song Li shook his head, “No, why do you ask?”
He Muyan paused, lowering his voice, “Your friend calls his boyfriend Laogong.”
Song Li let out an “Oh,” long accustomed to it, “It’s just a term of endearment. How people call each other comes down to personal habit after all.”
He Muyan looked at him, his Adam’s apple bobbing, but he didn’t say anything further.
Xue Sang turned back and waved at them, “Lili, stop standing around, we’re heading out!”
Song Li responded and took He Muyan’s hand, “Let’s head over too.”
The two of them sat in the back seat with Xue Sang fastening his seatbelt in the front passenger seat. Turning back, Xue Sang asked, “The place we’re heading to is a bit far. Lili, will you be able to handle it?”
Song Li patted his belly and smiled, “I’m fine. Tell Ye Yi to drive with peace of mind.”
Before the words fully landed, He Muyan beside him immediately added, “I will take good care of Lili.”
Xue Sang raised an eye to glance at him, “Listen to you talking as if you’re so capable, that’s what you were supposed to do in the first place.”
“Xiao Sang.”
Seeing that the atmosphere was about to head in a worse direction again, Song Li quickly cut in, smiling as he gently nudged Xue Sang back toward the front, “The car is starting, hurry and sit back properly, it’s dangerous.”
Xue Sang snorted and pulled back into his seat.
Song Li let out a breath of relief before turning his head to look at the man beside him and giving him a reassuring smile.
He Muyan kissed his forehead, indicating he was fine.
It was almost noon when they arrived at their destination. Song Li felt a bit carsick, and He Muyan wanted to carry him out, but Song Li refused. They were in a public place now; how would a grown man being carried around like this look to others?
Supported and half-guided out of the car, he found that the weather was truly wonderful today, with plenty of people here fishing as well. Some set up fishing rods to wait by the lake, while others directly set up barbecue grills. There were even tents pitched on the nearby lawn; mostly families of three bringing their kids out to play with several five- or six-year-olds running laps around the tents.
Song Li hadn’t seen such a lively atmosphere in a long time, and his mood brightened considerably. Holding He Muyan’s hand, he said to him, “If I’d known, we should have come out to play more often too, getting a breath of fresh air is good for the soul.”
He Muyan smoothed his hair, which had been ruffled by the wind, “If Lili wants to come out to play, I’ll arrange it next time.”
Song Li nodded, then heard Xue Sang calling him from not far away, “Song Li, what are you guys dawdling over there for? Hurry up and get over here!”
Song Li pulled He Muyan along by the hand and walked over, only to see Ye Yi and Xue Sang setting up a tent. Surprised, he asked, “Why did you guys bring a tent too?”
Xue Sang turned his head to look at him, pouting his chin in the direction of Song Li’s belly, “Who else would it be for if not my future precious godson? The noon sun is harsh right now, and I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to handle it. I figured you’d need a midday nap too, so setting up a tent makes things a bit more convenient.”
Song Li looked at him with affection and said, “Xiao Sang, you’re still as thoughtful as ever. I love you so much.”
“Get out of here.”
He Muyan glanced at their progress with the tent, then supported Song Li to sit under the shade of a nearby tree, “Sit here for a bit first, I’ll go help out.”
Just as He Muyan was about to stand up and leave, Song Li grabbed his hand, prompting him to look back down at him.
Song Li planted a kiss on his chin, “Xiao Sang has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, don’t mind the things he says.”
He Muyan nodded, “I don’t mind.”
Truth be told, what he minded had never been that in the first place.
