Fang Qin nodded to thank Leah, then crouched down to pick up what had fallen when she was bumped. Leah noticed her shoes were stained with wine, and the tops of her feet were wet. She told her to go to the lounge to clean up. Before Fang Qin could speak, a woman hurried over from behind her.
Seeing Fang Qin actually talking to Leah, the woman immediately put on a smile and affectionately linked arms with Fang Qin. “I have clean high heels. Xiao Qin, if you don’t mind, change into them first.”
Fang Qin gave the woman face and agreed. But as she was leaving, she seemed to summon courage and walked up to Leah.
“Ms. Leah, I really like you. You’re my idol. Can, can I add your contact information?”
“I swear I won’t bother you!”
She lowered herself very much, eyes shining, voice gentle, staring at Leah with a timid look. The other party had had an incident at her party, and although she was the one bumped into, she chose to endure it and not make a scene. Leah of course, wouldn’t refuse her face. She took out her phone and scanned Fang Qin’s QR code to add her. Fang Qin looked very excited. As she left, she excitedly told her companion that being bumped into got her her idol’s contact info, totally worth it. Her tone was light and innocent. Although she said it with her back to them, everyone present heard.
Leah smiled and said regretfully: “I forgot to ask her name. I don’t think I’ve seen her before.”
Having been bumped into at her party, she should give her some compensation. Hua Zhao was shocked by her whole performance. Was this a green tea spirit reincarnated?
“She’s Fang Qin?”
Hua Zhao hadn’t even reacted to what Wang Shilan said when the other added an evaluation: “She’s quite impressive.”
“Huh?”
Wang Shilan pulled her aside. “Leah loves lively gatherings. She holds a party every week, inviting Beicheng’s socialites and wealthy ladies…”
Hua Zhao: “So?”
Wang Shilan looked at Fang Qin’s back. “She’s already made Leah remember her. Understand?”
Barring accidents, after today, Fang Qin would frequently appear at Leah’s parties. So she remembers her. Hua Zhao thought.
Wang Shilan helplessly poked her brow. “Can you be a bit more mindful? She wants to climb up through Leah.”
The upper-class circle was more complicated than she thought. Interactions between socialites and wealthy ladies weren’t that simple. Interaction, put plainly, was resource exchange, mutual use. Back at the booth, Hua Zhao sipped some wine. Looking up, she saw Fang Qin, not far away, had already changed her shoes. Leah had gone over and had a waiter give her a business card. The two seemed to be chatting happily. For the second half of the party, Fang Qin was led around by Leah. Probably afraid she’d be bumped into again.
Hua Zhao’s mouth twitched. “I now suspect she deliberately chose to be bumped into here.” She pointed at the screen in front of her.
Wang Shilan crossed her legs and said lightly: “Mm-hmm, not too dumb after all.”
Hua Zhao was shocked.
“Honestly, I’ve only seen this trick in cheesy short videos…”
Hua Zhao felt a bit depressed. Her glass of wine was accidentally emptied.
“Drink less.” Wang Shilan saw her drain her glass and was a bit worried.
Hua Zhao waved her hand. “I have a good tolerance. It’s fine.”
By the third glass, Leah came over with Fang Qin. No one knew what Fang Qin had said, but she had Leah laughing nonstop. Hua Zhao’s mouth twitched, and she took another sip.
“Let me introduce you. This is Fang Qin, a painter.”
Sitting and drinking, Hua Zhao and Wang Shilan didn’t get up. They held their temples, looking a bit drunk.
Leah let out an “Oh my,” bent down, and touched their faces. “How did you two get this drunk as soon as I left?”
Hua Zhao smiled. “Sister Leah, the wine here is good.”
Leah quickly had someone bring them sobering drinks and sat beside Hua Zhao, not letting her drink more.
Fang Qin stood to the side, hand to her lips, coughing. She said softly: “Sister Leah, I won’t disturb you.”
Only then did Leah remember someone was standing there. Hua Zhao looked up at her. The moment their eyes met, Fang Qin froze. The woman before her was the model who had filmed the commercial with Pei Xu. After seeing the commercial that day, she had searched online and learned the model was Pei Xu’s aunt, named Hua Zhao.
Her face flashed with shock. The fake smile on her lips instantly froze. The calm facade she had put on after being bumped into was shattered. A panic she couldn’t hide surfaced in her eyes. Hua Zhao sneered. Scared to death, huh, bad woman. She stood up, her body a bit unsteady, swaying as she walked over.
Leah immediately went to support her. “Sit down, sit down. No need to get up. Oh my.”
Hua Zhao sniffled. “Sister Leah, you brought a friend. How can I sit? So impolite.”
Leah pressed her shoulders, not letting her move. “It’s fine, sit down.”
The waiter brought sobering drinks. Leah helped her insert a straw and held it to her lips. On the other side, Wang Shilan couldn’t pretend to be drunk. She silently picked up her cup and took a sip.
“Fang Qin, why do I feel like you look familiar?” Wang Shilan’s gaze fell on the woman standing in the middle.
This sentence seemed to agitate the drunk beside her. Hua Zhao stood up abruptly, staring straight at Fang Qin.
“What a coincidence. I know someone, also named Fang Qin.”
Fang Qin pressed her lips. “Re-really? That’s quite a coincidence.”
Hua Zhao took two steps forward, only a meter from Fang Qin. “Miss Fang, do you have children?”
The woman before her had been drinking. Compared to the faint smell of alcohol, what Fang Qin felt most strongly was the other’s disgust toward her. Undisguised disgust. The scene was not what Fang Qin had expected. Since entering the party, she had been watching Leah’s movements, then deliberately pretended to be bumped into in front of the screen, successfully attracting Leah’s attention.
Just when she felt she had become friends with Leah, Hua Zhao appeared. Fang Qin panicked a little. Hua Zhao definitely knew what she had done. Pei Xu was so close to her now; he must have told Hua Zhao he was abandoned by his mother. She had finally connected with Leah and was about to be accepted by the upper class. No. She couldn’t let anyone block her path.
“I have children.” She said calmly.
Hua Zhao walked closer and asked again: “Miss Fang takes such good care of herself. You can’t tell she’s had a child at all.”
Fang Qin stood straight and smiled.
“The Fang Qin I know also has a child. But she abandoned her child, let her child be bullied by teachers and classmates, thin to the bone, and even developed a psychological illness.”
Hua Zhao had walked up to her, looking at her hatefully. “I wonder if she still remembers her child’s name, what he looks like!”
Fang Qin almost couldn’t catch her breath. She staggered back, raised her hand to smooth her hair. “Miss Hua, you’re drunk…”
Wang Shilan got up, took two steps, and stood beside Hua Zhao.
