Song Li stayed behind at his own place out of sheer rebellion. After taking a shower and lying down on the bed, he suddenly felt completely at a loose end.
What exactly did he used to do when he was home alone in the past?
He tossed and turned, running his hand over the pillow he had used for several years.
Right before moving into He Muyan’s house, he had just changed his bed sheets and duvet cover, so he could still faintly catch the scent of the fabric softener on them.
It didn’t smell as nice as the one at He Muyan’s house.
Wait a minute, Song Li suddenly jolted. What on earth was he just thinking? What was all this about smelling nice or not? Since when had he become an expert at distinguishing the fragrances of fabric softeners?
This was way too damn sissy!
He shook his head to banish the horrifying thought. Just as he was about to get up and grab a book to pass the time, the bedroom door was suddenly pushed open, and Xue Sang poked his head inside.
“Ge, you aren’t asleep yet, right?”
With a snap, Song Li switched off the light, “I’m asleep.”
Xue Sang wasn’t buying his act at all. He ran inside barefooted and slapped the light switch back on with a loud click.
Leaping onto the bed, he slid right into the duvet with him, “Don’t sleep yet, let’s chat!”
Shoved to the side by him, Song Li said, amused, “Instead of playing your video games in the guest room, what are you running in here for?”
“Aren’t I afraid that you’ll feel lonely in your bridal chamber? I’m keeping you company to endure this endless night.”
“The lonely one is you, isn’t it?”
“Nonsense. I have you, Ge. What kind of loneliness could possibly find me?”
Song Li kicked him from beneath the covers, “Smooth talker.”
Xue Sang clung to his arm, resting his chin against the crook of Song Li’s neck as he looked up at him.
Song Li smiled faintly. The warm orange light cast a fine, soft halo over his profile, making him look exceptionally gentle and handsome.
Letting out a loud howl, Xue Sang buried himself in Song Li’s embrace, “Ge, my divine brother! Wasn’t it fine being beautiful all on your own? How did you end up becoming someone else’s domestic flower?!”
Laughing, Song Li pressed down on his head, “What kind of crazy episode are you having now?”
Gripping Song Li’s collar, Xue Sang tilted his head back to ask, “Ge, tell me the truth. Is your husband good to you?”
Was this the number one classic question from a late-night girl-talk session?
Even though it was childish and amusing, Song Li still answered him seriously, “He’s very good.”
At the very least, they had treated each other with mutual respect and lived in perfect harmony ever since getting their marriage certificate, hadn’t they?
Looking at the genuine smile on Song Li’s face, Xue Sang slumped back down and sighed, “Marriage is nice. Having a home is truly wonderful. To be honest, I really quite envy you.”
Song Li rubbed his fine, soft hair, “If you’d just put down the butcher’s knife and rein in your playful nature, what kind of good husband couldn’t you find?”
“I don’t even want a husband.”
Xue Sang stuck out his tongue before releasing his grip and rolling to the side, “They aren’t worthy.”
Here he went again. Just as Song Li was about to lecture him, the phone by his pillow suddenly vibrated twice with a buzz, buzz*
He picked it up and unlocked it to take a look, instantly leaping up from the bed in absolute shock.
It was actually a WeChat message from He Muyan.
President He: Have you finished gathering your things? Do you want me to come pick you up?
President He: Come home.
They were two very simple messages. Song Li read them over and over, his hand clutching the phone even trembling a little.
Startled by his reaction, Xue Sang looked at him curiously, “Who sent a message to make you this excited?”
Snapping out of it, Song Li let out a cough and set the phone down.
“Was I that excited?”
“You’re not excited? Your grin is practically stretching from ear to ear.” As Xue Sang spoke, he used his fingers to hook the corners of his own mouth to demonstrate.
Song Li couldn’t hold it in any longer and gestured with his phone, “My husband said he wants to come pick me up and take me home.”
Xue Sang was stunned, then kicked his legs out and yelled, “This is too much! Abuse against single dogs! Careful or I’ll call the cops!”
Song Li chuckled. He stole another glance at those two messages, the smile at the corners of his lips entirely uncontrollable. Only after suppressing it again and again did he type a reply to him: No need, I was just about to head back.
Seeing his spineless display, Xue Sang let out a cold, snorting laugh, “Song Li, it’s only been a few days. You haven’t gone and fallen for the guy, have you?”
Song Li’s hands paused over his typing. He raised his head to look at him.
Xue Sang raised an eyebrow, “Am I right?”
Song Li blinked, “That can’t be.”
He liked He Muyan? How could that be possible? They had only known each other for a few days.
Xue Sang reached out and poked his forehead, “You’ve fallen for him. You’ve absolutely fallen for him. You’re way too easy to fool.”
Song Li remained noncommittal, shaking his head as he replied, “You don’t understand. This isn’t something that can be simply summarized with a single word like ‘like.’ This is a bond between family members. A bond, understand?”
Xue Sang pouted thoroughly, his eyes completely seeing through the other party’s cover-up, “Stubborn mouth.”
Song Li got out of bed to change his clothes. As he raised his hands to pull off his large tank top, he paused for a moment, walked over to the wardrobe nearby, and rummaged around for a good while before finally picking out a set of long-sleeved, long-pants, rather conservative pajamas.
Xue Sang sprawled on the bed and watched him, “The weather is this hot, what are you doing grabbing such thick clothes?”
Song Li folded the clothes properly, planning to stuff them into his suitcase in a moment.
“I’ll be wearing this kind from now on. When I have time another day, I’ll buy a couple more sets as backups to wash and change into.”
Xue Sang looked at him like he couldn’t stand it, “Psycho.”
With both suitcases packed and having made sure he hadn’t left behind any daily necessities, Song Li turned back to look at the person on the bed, “Then I’m off.”
Xue Sang was currently in the middle of a team match and didn’t even have a spare second to wave a hand at him, “A married-off brother is like spilled water; impossible to keep around, just impossible.”
Amused, Song Li said, “Stop being poor-mouthed with me. It’s impossible for you to stay at my place forever anyway. Once you’ve figured things out, hurry back.”
Xue Sang gave a series of half-hearted, perfunctory grunts.
The phone vibrated twice more. Song Li pulled it out to check, and it was still from He Muyan.
President He: I’ve arrived at your place. Is it 16th floor, Room 302? Open the door.
Song Pear: !
What was going on? Didn’t he just say he didn’t need him to come over to pick him up?
Without time to think through, Song Li immediately put away his phone and went out to open the door.
Sure enough, He Muyan was standing outside the door, dressed immaculately in a suit and leather shoes, subtly echoing the scene from that night a week ago when he had come here for the very first time.
Song Li swallowed his saliva, “Y-You… Didn’t I say I was about to head back? Why did you still make a special trip over?”
He Muyan tilted his head slightly to glance behind him, “It’s very late.”
What was very late? The time? It was only half past nine, it shouldn’t be counted as late, right?
Song Li didn’t know what he meant, but he still stepped aside to let him come in first.
“Lili, who is it at this time of night?”
Xue Sang came out of the room, scratching his stomach with one hand, his disheveled hair falling over and covering his eyes.
The moment He Muyan saw him, his brows knit together.
For some reason, Song Li’s heart skipped a beat. Just as he was about to give an explanation with a forced laugh, Xue Sang had already shot over like a little cannonball.
His face was full of an expression like he had discovered a new continent, “Wow! A handsome guy! Lili, where on earth did you meet such a stunningly handsome guy? You didn’t even introduce him to me, that’s way too disloyal!”
Song Li no longer dared to look at the current expression on He Muyan’s face, turning his head to frantically shoot Xue Sang meaningful looks.
Xue Sang reacted for a moment before it clicked. He pointed a finger at He Muyan, “This handsome guy wouldn’t happen to be your husband, would he?”
Song Li nodded.
Xue Sang let out a few clucks of his tongue, then suddenly threw his arms around Song Li’s arm, clinging to his side with a sugary-sweet smile, “Hello, handsome. I’m Lili’s ex-boyfriend. Don’t misunderstand, we have no intention of reigniting an old flame. It’s just that I’ve been too lonely lately, so I wanted Lili to keep me company for a bit.”
Song Li had a massive headache. He reached out to push Xue Sang’s head away with force, explaining to He Muyan with a wry smile, “Don’t listen to this kid’s nonsense. This is my childhood friend, Xue Sang. We’ve known each other for many years.”
He Muyan stared at their still-intertwined arms, his pitch-black pupils running as deep and cold as an icy pool.
“Have you packed all your things? Let’s go home.”
Song Li was stunned for a second, then nodded hurriedly before walking over to push his suitcases out, “All packed, all packed. We can go.”
He Muyan walked over and naturally took the suitcases from his hands. Ignoring Song Li’s somewhat bewildered look, he said softly, “Let’s go.”
Looking at his retreating back, Song Li raised a hand to touch the spot over his heart, letting out a soft sigh of relief.
“Ge.”
Xue Sang called out to him from behind. Song Li turned around and saw him blowing a terribly flirtatious kiss his way, “Spring nights are short and precious. Take good care of yourself.”
Song Li wished he could strangle this demon.
Once they reached downstairs, He Muyan stuffed the suitcases into the trunk.
Standing nearby, Song Li asked him, “You drove here too? My car is still parked in the garage. How about the two of us drive back separately…”
Before the final word could even leave his mouth, He Muyan turned back and shot him a cold glance, “Take this one.”
Song Li shut his mouth. Fine, whichever car President He said to take, they would take. As for the one he had driven over, he would just have to make another trip back to drive it home whenever he had time later.
Song Li could feel that He Muyan was in a rather poor mood. Though he didn’t know the exact reason, it must have something to do with him to some extent.
With the two of them sitting inside the car now, He Muyan merely drove with a cold face, having absolutely no intention of conversing at all.
Song Li really disliked this kind of atmosphere. After giving it some thought, he decided that since he was the older one, he should show the generosity and composure expected of an elder.
After building up his resolve, he turned sideways and spoke with a smile, “Isn’t it the weekend today? How come you’re still dressed in formal wear?”
The traffic light ahead turned green, and He Muyan stepped on the accelerator, “I went to the company this afternoon. Your place was on my way back, so I stopped by to pick you up.”
I see. Song Li nodded. So he hadn’t made a special trip just to pick him up after all.
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. He really shouldn’t be so sentimental; assuming too much never ended well.
Back at the house, Song Li stayed in the bedroom to organize the clothes he had just brought back, while He Muyan went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.
By the time Song Li finished tidying up and was planning to shower himself, President He was already in bed looking through some bedtime reading material.
Today, he was actually wearing a bathrobe. His hair was still half-wet, falling slightly across his forehead, and his chest was partially exposed, faintly visible under the light.
It was just… incredibly sultry.
Song Li averted his gaze, grabbed his pajamas, and headed to the bathroom.
After taking a quick shower, he specifically put on the long-styled set of pajamas he had just brought back today. He wondered if He Muyan would look pleased when he saw him dressed like this.
With a mix of anticipation and a bit of shyness, he stepped out of the bathroom. But before he could even look up at He Muyan on the bed, he heard a sharp snap, and his vision instantly plunged into total darkness.
He Muyan’s voice rang out in the dark, “Time to sleep.”
Song Li stood rooted to the spot, utterly dumbfounded.
The shyness and nervousness filling his heart instantly vanished into thin air. Wow, so the man was literally just waiting for him to step out of the shower so he could turn off the lights, huh?
If he found his presence here so eyesore, why did he even bother bringing him back tonight?
Song Li felt a little angry, thinking that He Muyan’s behavior was rather disrespectful.
He groped his way to the bed in the dark, pulled back the duvet, and climbed in.
Because he was harboring a bit of a temper, his movements as he yanked the covers and lay down were somewhat forceful. He didn’t care if He Muyan would mind anymore, and so what if he did? He was doing it on purpose. He wanted He Muyan to know that he had a temper too and wasn’t someone who could just be pushed around and molded at will.
Huffing in annoyance, Song Li couldn’t fall asleep for a while, so he lay there with his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling.
Neither of them said a word, and the darkness around them felt heavy and utterly silent.
After a good while, just when Song Li thought He Muyan had already fallen asleep, he suddenly heard the man’s voice rise beside him.
“Does that friend of yours usually call you that?”
Song Li was slightly startled. After a brief pause to catch his bearing, he answered him, “Do you mean Xiao Sang? His personality is just like that, he’s very mischievous. He’s given me a ton of nicknames, so how he addresses me depends entirely on his mood.”
He Muyan seemed to let out a soft snort. After a brief pause, his voice sounded again in the darkness, hoarse and rough, “Lili?”
Song Li’s heart suddenly skipped a beat, almost wondering if his ears were playing tricks on him.
He offered a forced laugh, “Why… why are you copying Xiao Sang like that…”
He didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence before he was gripped by the arm and dragged into the middle of the large bed.
He Muyan leaned over him, tilting his chin up to kiss him.
Song Li let out a muffled hum. His lower lip was being bitten and rubbed hard enough to sting, forcing him to part his lips and let He Muyan in.
He didn’t know if he was just too sensitive or if He Muyan was simply too skilled, but judging from their recent encounters, He Muyan acted like someone who was already highly experienced.
Then again, for an outstanding man like him, having a few exes wasn’t exactly surprising.
The moment that thought crossed his mind, the nameless fire in his chest instantly flared up even hotter. Turning his face away resolutely, he spoke in a muffled tone, “I don’t want to do it today.”
