Chapter 13
Having fooled around until past two in the morning the night before, Shen Qianci was woken up at 6:00 AM the next day by his internal biological clock.
All he could say was that sofas were truly not meant for human sleep. When he stood up, his waist felt so sore and weak. Anyone who didn’t know better would think that someone had punched him in the back with twenty cups of lemon tea.
He walked softly into the bedroom and saw Qin Guanyu sleeping deeply on his side, hugging a pillow.
The overbearing CEO’s sleeping posture was actually quite proper, completely defying Shen Qianci’s stereotype of him.
Steam Bun slipped in from the living room. A few days had already passed since that tragic event of getting his balls snipped; Comrade Shen Steam Bun was now fully agile again, leaping onto the bed with a gentle bound.
Seeing that Shen Steam Bun was about to deliver a “pounce of love” to his “second daddy,” Shen Qianci acted quickly with keen eyes and swift hands, grabbing the cat by the fateful scruff of his neck.
He carried the cat out of the bedroom and closed the door for Qin Guanyu.
After preparing the cat food, he went downstairs to buy a few types of breakfast. As he ate, he reviewed the script he was going to teach in class this morning.
It wasn’t until the clock struck 7:00 AM that Shen Qianci walked into the bedroom and gently nudged Qin Guanyu.
“Qin Guanyu?”
Qin Guanyu grunted irritably, changed his posture, and continued to sleep.
Shen Qianci pressed one knee onto the mattress, leaning in to call him. “President Qin? Are you still going to work today?”
The word “work” successfully forced Qin Guanyu’s eyelids open for two seconds before they closed again in sheer despair.
“This emperor shall go in the afternoon,” Qin Guanyu dizzily issued a decree.
Shen Qianci couldn’t help but laugh. “Skipping the morning court session and changing it to noon? Your Majesty, you must prioritize the state and the empire.”
“During my reign, I have ruled with diligence and governance. Why can I not even sleep in for once?!”
Qin Guanyu angrily buried himself under the blanket, muttering in his sleep: “Pass down my decree; let the Crown Prince oversee the state today.”
“Who is the Crown Prince?”
“Shen Steam Bun, of course.” Qin Guanyu poked his head out, utterly incensed. “What is going on! You don’t even know the Empress’s firstborn son?!”
Shen Qianci raised an eyebrow. “The Crown Prince takes the Empress’s last name?”
“…” Qin Guanyu sat up abruptly like a carp flipping over, his eyes glazed and dazed. “Oh, right…”
He thought seriously for two seconds, then silently lay back down. “Never mind. We shall discuss this further after this emperor wakes up.”
Seeing him fall asleep again in a split second, Shen Qianci shook his head with a smile. “Then I’m heading out for class. Be good at home by yourself.”
“Mhm.” It was unclear whether Qin Guanyu heard him through his slumber, but he gave a vague response, turned over, and fell into a deep sleep once more.
—
When Qin Guanyu woke up, he felt as if he had been beaten up. His head throbbed as if it were being pricked by needles.
Resilient despite his physical ailment, he clutched his head and sat up. As the fog in front of his eyes cleared, he suddenly realized something was wrong.
This bed, this blanket, this room!
Where on earth was he? Had he been sold out?
His scalp tingled with panic, and he got out of bed to stand on the floor.
Who on earth brought him to a place like this? Is he going to be sold into prostitution?!
Qin Guanyu silently sat back down on the edge of the bed.
He wondered how much a face like his could make in a single night down in the escort trade.
Wait, no.
He stood up again.
Was this the kind of question an overbearing CEO like him should be contemplating?!
He forced himself to calm down, racking his brain to recall what he had done after drinking with those two absolute trolls yesterday.
Right then, a faint scent of mint mixed with lime drifted through the room. The moment the fragrance brushed the tip of his nose, his mind instantly cleared.
He remembered. Yesterday, Shen Qianci had picked him up from the hotel.
Was this Shen Qianci’s home?
Realizing this, his heart leapt with a strange, inexplicable joy. He opened the bedroom door with sheer delight.
“Meow~~”
The familiar cat meow brought Qin Guanyu happiness, but it also wrapped him in a soft sense of security and peace.
He scooped Shen Steam Bun out of the cat bed and planted two morning kisses on the fluffy cat’s head.
“Where is your biological dad?”
Just as he asked, Qin Guanyu noticed a small blackboard propped up on the coffee table. On it was Shen Qianci’s vigorous and bold handwriting:
[Gone to class. I’ve put new toiletries in the bathroom for you. Breakfast is on the table, just pop it in the microwave to heat it up and make do. If your head hurts, there are painkillers on the table.]
Holding the cat, Little President Qin sighed in admiration: “Your biological dad is truly so thoughtful.”
After washing up delightfully, he sat down to enjoy the steamed buns, tea eggs, and tofu pudding that Shen Qianci had bought while turning on his phone.
The moment he unlocked the screen, the barrage of messages nearly choked him.
The WeChat interface was crammed with red notification dots from Lu Tiangong, Sun Guanqing, his assistant Xiao Yuan, and even his own dad.
He opened Xiao Yuan’s message first. After handling and delegating the more urgent tasks, Qin Guanyu exited the chat, just in time to see new messages popping up in the three-person group chat named [Is Xiao Qin’s Chastity Mark Still There Today?]
[Lu Tiangong: @Qin Guanyu, not up yet?]
[Qin Guanyu: I’m heading to the company in the afternoon. If anything comes up, reach me via 5G network.]
[Sun Guanqing: Oh my! The sun is high in the sky, and President Qin is finally awake? Do we need to change the group name today?]
[Lu Tiangong: Is our rebellious son’s chastity mark still intact?]
[Qin Guanyu: Gross, you guys are so vulgar![Disgusted.jpg]]
[Sun Guanqing: Do you even remember what you did last night after Teacher Shen picked you up?]
[Lu Tiangong: Considering you act like an alien every time you get wasted, your bros suggest you think back carefully. Don’t go actually taking advantage of Teacher Shen and then remembering absolutely nothing afterward. In his eyes, you’d just be an irresponsible scumbag.]
[Sun Guanqing: [Tom nodding] Exactly. That’s how all those substitute lover web novels are written. Next up is the “chasing his wife at the crematorium” angst arc.]
The two trolls bounced off each other, speaking with such conviction that Qin Guanyu actually began to panic.
He tried his absolute hardest to recall what happened after Shen Qianci took him away last night, but his mind only held scattered, fleeting fragments.
He only remembered that Shen Qianci seemed to be wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses with chains last night. When the chain brushed against his cheek, it felt a bit cold and a little ticklish.
And… they also seemed to have talked about Shen Qianci’s ex-boyfriend? What exactly did they talk about?
Something about the ex-boyfriend being a total scumbag?
Qin Guanyu scratched his hair. No matter how hard he tried, he could only piece together this much.
Completely lost, he grabbed the watering can by the window and started watering a pot of succulents.
But when his gaze fell on the succulent, for some reason, he felt that he and this succulent were incompatible, and he even had the absurd idea of beating up the plant.
He silently put down the watering can, forcibly cutting off his own mental highway to the psychiatric ward.
As he sat down on the sofa, a brand-new fragment slipped into his mind.
Shen Qianci seemed to have cried last night!
Wait! It seemed Shen Qianci was even lying down while crying!
This time, Qin Guanyu was truly terrified.
Could he have actually… last night?
No, no, no. Didn’t they say that drunk people couldn’t get it up?
Qin Guanyu felt a slight relief.
But the next second, his heart leaped into his throat again.
What if he were unfortunately, exceptionally gifted???
“Steam Bun!” Qin Guanyu frantically scooped up the cat. “Did I bully your dad last night?”
He swallowed nervously. “If I did, give me a meow.”
Steam Bun’s large, round eyes rolled around. “Meow~”
“It’s over…” Qin Guanyu’s heart went half cold. He muttered, “Did I really turn into a beast?”
But then again, looking at the small blackboard on the coffee table, Qin Guanyu thought: Teacher Shen’s physical stamina is seriously amazing. Even after all that, he could still make it to an 8:00 AM class.
Could it be that my performance was that terrible???
Wait, was this the time to be thinking about that?!
Then what should he be thinking about?
Would listening to Jay Chou’s “The Clock Facing the Reverse Direction” make time flow backward?
Qin Guanyu, oh Qin Guanyu, the man kindly took you home out of the goodness of his heart, how could you commit such an act of bullying?!
Restless and unable to sit still, Qin Guanyu knew he had to compensate Shen Qianci. He had to take responsibility.
Yes! He had to take responsibility!
He would buy their marital home near Z University. That way, Shen Qianci could just walk to work. On the occasional days when he got off work early himself, maybe he could even walk through the campus with Shen Qianci, stepping on the traces of the setting sun.
That’s how all the campus dramas filmed it!
What should he do when meeting the parents? Shen Qianci was cultured and looked like an absolute immortal; his maternal grandfather would definitely be incredibly satisfied.
But given Shen Qianci’s temperament, he clearly came from a highly educated family. His parents were most likely intellectuals too. When they met, would they look down on him for dripping with the stench of money and lacking high literary sophistication?
Qin Guanyu scratched his head. It looked like once he got back to Yunjing Villa, he would first have to finish reading that book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
–
By the time Shen Qianci finished his morning classes and returned to the faculty apartment, it was already close to noon.
He wasn’t sure if Qin Guanyu was still at his place. If he was, he planned to take him out for lunch and hitch a ride in his car back to Yunjing Villa afterward.
The moment he pushed open the front door, the man and the cat inside turned their heads to stare at him simultaneously, catching him off guard.
Sprinting over even faster than Steam Bun was Qin Guanyu. Shen Qianci watched in bewilderment as this overbearing CEO eagerly shuffled up to him, circling around him like a big dog waiting for its owner to come home, a performance that left even Steam Bun looking utterly dazed.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Qianci closed the front door behind him.
“Teacher Shen…” Qin Guanyu followed him into the living room with a slightly bashful air. “Did I do anything weird last night?”
Recalling the events of the previous night, Shen Qianci let out a silent laugh, though he wiped the amusement from his face the moment he turned around. “Like what?”
“Like…” Qin Guanyu didn’t even dare to look him in the eye, forcing himself to suggest a generic one: “Like calling you ‘Daddy’?”
Shen Qianci arched an eyebrow. It looked like this drunken fish really didn’t remember a single thing. In that case, Qin Guanyu definitely wouldn’t find out that he had secretly recorded his drunken antics last night.
“Not quite, but I was practically worked to death by all the tossing and turning.”
Sleeping on the sofa all night, coupled with standing at the podium for the entire morning, had left his waist feeling incredibly stiff.
Qin Guanyu: “!!!”
Shen Qianci watched as Qin Guanyu’s eyes went wide, a deep crimson blush slowly creeping across his handsome face.
Feeling bewildered but completely exhausted, Shen Qianci grabbed a throw pillow and slowly reclined on his side onto the sofa.
“Let me lie down for a bit; my waist is about to snap. Do you want to grab lunch together at the pedestrian street across from the campus in a bit?”
But the moment the words left his mouth, Qin Guanyu’s expression grew even weirder.
“Teacher Shen…” Qin Guanyu’s voice was completely choked with guilt, to the point where he looked ready to cry. “I… I will definitely take responsibility for you!”
