Chapter 12
Thanks to the drunk Xiao Qin, Shen Qianci got to drive a Bentley.
He took Qin Guanyu straight back to his own faculty apartment because it was closer. It was already past midnight, and he had an 8:00 AM class tomorrow; he really couldn’t afford the exhausting trip to Yunjing Villa.
Along the way, he kept pondering what Lu Tiangong meant by “become really weird.”
He stole a glance at Qin Guanyu sitting in the passenger seat. He was sitting very quietly, blinking his eyes as he stared at the night view outside the window without uttering a single word. He was so obedient he didn’t even seem like himself.
Well, a “wolf dog” who usually howled every day suddenly turning quiet was indeed pretty weird.
With very little traffic late at night, it took him less than 20 minutes to return to the faculty apartment.
When he helped Qin Guanyu out of the car, he noticed a suit inside a garment dust bag in the trunk.
As expected of an overbearing CEO, this outfit was probably kept as a spare for when he needed to change during business dinners or trips, and it just happened to come in handy today.
Just like that, with an overbearing CEO in one hand and an expensive suit in the other, he abducted the man back to his small one-bedroom apartment.
As soon as the door opened, Steam Bun, who was standing at the entryway to greet them, was startled, probably not expecting to see his “second daddy” at this time and place.
Shen Qianci told him to sit on the living room sofa first. But whether it was the alcohol kicking in or something else, Qin Guanyu, who had been quite sober at the hotel and on the way home, started to sway even while walking now.
Seeing this 187 cm tall guy falling straight toward the floor, Shen Qianci’s heart leaped into his throat. He caught him and used every ounce of his strength to haul the man onto the sofa.
That was a close one…
Shen Qianci picked up Steam Bun, stroking his cat son’s fur with lingering fear. If Qin Guanyu had really crashed down just now, he probably would have squished Steam Bun into a cat pancake and left a human-shaped crater in the apartment floor while he was at it.
—
Qin Guanyu’s frame was a size larger than his. Shen Qianci rummaged through his wardrobe before finally digging out a bathrobe that had stretched out from washing.
He stuffed the bathrobe and a pair of disposable underwear into Qin Guanyu’s hands.
Qin Guanyu accepted them blankly, raised his eyes, and stared at Shen Qianci motionlessly, like a dog waiting for its owner’s command.
Shen Qianci found this incredibly amusing. His eyes darted around, and he tried calling out to him: “Xiao Qin.”
But no matter how obedient the “young wolf dog” was, he cared deeply about his professional title. Qin Guanyu’s face tensed up. “Call me President Qin.”
Shen Qianci deliberately refused. “Guanyu?”
This one seemed acceptable. Little President Qin wrinkled his nose and didn’t voice any objection.
Amused, Shen Qianci sat down next to Qin Guanyu and asked him, “You just finished drinking, so it’s best not to take a bath; you can only wipe down. Are you going to wipe yourself down? Or should I do it for you?”
Qin Guanyu pursed his lips and thought for a moment. “You do it for me.”
Wow! Shen Qianci was shocked.
Just as Lu Tiangong had said, Qin Guanyu became incredibly weird once he was drunk.
Under normal circumstances, how could the fiercely chaste Little President Qin ever give him an opportunity to admire his physique?
“Why do you want me to wipe you down?” Shen Qianci teased this limited-edition version of Xiao Qin. “Treating me like a nanny?”
Qin Guanyu shook his head anxiously, then lowered his head in slight embarrassment. “You said before that you wanted to see my abs.”
Oh, so he even remembered that while drunk. This overbearing CEO wasn’t bad. He was practically a saint.
“I really do have a six-pack.” Qin Guanyu grabbed Shen Qianci’s hand and guided it toward his shirt to feel. “Isn’t it super impressive?”
Shen Qianci suppressed a laugh in his throat and said deliberately, “It’s just so-so. My ex-boyfriend had more abs than you.”
Qin Guanyu stood up abruptly, his face full of defiance. “Impossible! Call him out! There’s absolutely no way he has more than me!”
Shen Qianci pointed toward the succulent plant on the windowsill. “He’s right over there. If you don’t believe me, go count. His abs are way more than yours.”
Little President Qin shuffled over with stiff, synchronous steps and glared fiercely at the succulent. “One, two… seven, eight, nine… thirteen, fourteen…”
The more Qin Guanyu counted, the lower his self-esteem dropped. He sat down on the carpet cross-legged in despair, his eyes hollow as he murmured, “His abs are more than double mine.”
Suppressing his laughter, Shen Qianci tapped the video record button.
“Impossible! Absolutely impossible!” Qin Guanyu stumbled back up to his feet and said huffily, “He must have taken hormones!”
“President Qin, you can’t slander others just because you don’t have it yourself.”
“Hmph!” Qin Guanyu turned his face away with an air of haughtiness and aloofness, and his eyes instantly caught the large bookshelf in the corner of Shen Qianci’s living room. “Is this your ex-boyfriend’s house?”
Shen Qianci nodded. “Yes.”
Qin Guanyu immediately began criticizing everything. “The decor is tasteless. There are so many books on the table, but I doubt he’s even read a few pages. It’s definitely just showing off.”
“…” Shen Qianci, who had been caught in the crossfire for no reason, angrily gave his abs a playful punch.
The muscles beneath the shirt were incredibly firm and felt excellent to the touch. Shen Qianci was satisfied again; it seemed the six-pack wasn’t a lie from the overbearing CEO.
“You actually dare to hit me for your ex-boyfriend!”
The CEO’s eyes turned red. Just when Shen Qianci thought he was going to start doing the classic “pinning his waist and demanding life” routine, he saw Little President Qin wail with utmost grievance: “Shen Qianci, I hate you!”
Then, clutching the clean bathrobe and disposable underwear, he bolted into the bathroom. It was unclear whether he was blinded by fury or still utterly wasted, but he didn’t even align himself right with the bathroom door, bumping straight into the doorframe as he took his first step inside…
“…” Shen Qianci managed to block the bathroom door just before it clicked shut, swiftly slipping inside. “Wait a second.”
Qin Guanyu, clutching the clothes, turned pale and cried out, “What are you doing? I don’t want to shower with you!”
“Yes, yes, yes, you have to stay fiercely chaste for your white moonlight.”
Shen Qianci handed him a fresh towel and lowered the toilet seat cover. “If you feel dizzy, just sit down. And you are strictly forbidden from taking a bath, only a wipe down. Be careful and don’t slip. Do not lock the bathroom door so I can come to your rescue if anything happens.”
Seeing that Shen Qianci had no untoward intentions, Qin Guanyu instantly relaxed.
However, right after Shen Qianci stepped out, the man poked his head past the doorframe again to issue a warning: “I won’t lock it, but you are absolutely not allowed to peek.”
Shen Qianci let out a soft chuckle. “My ex-boyfriend has more than double your abs. Your mere six-pack isn’t enough to tempt me.”
“Hmph!” Qin Guanyu shut the door with a fierce glare.
—
Shen Qianci checked the clock. It was already close to 2:00 AM. He really needed to get some sleep.
He moved the duvet from the bedroom out to the living room sofa, then took a fresh blanket from the closet to make the bedroom bed. Since his sugar daddy had turned into a total drunkard, it was only proper to arrange for him to sleep in the bedroom. After all, Little President Qin paid him two million a month; there was simply no justification for making the man sleep on the couch.
Just as he took off his gold-rimmed glasses and was about to change into his pajamas, the noise in the bathroom stopped.
Looking at his reflection in the full-length mirror, Shen Qianci suddenly felt a wave of playfulness. He undid the top button of his shirt and reclined casually on the sofa.
When Qin Guanyu emerged wearing the bathrobe, Shen Qianci flashed him a smile that was a 98% match to Shu Yi’s signature look.
“Guanyu.”
Little President Qin froze. Perhaps remembering their earlier conversation about the “ex-boyfriend’s abs,” his handsome face instantly fell. He grumbled under his breath: “Calling me so intimately… I’m not your ex-boyfriend with a dozen-plus abs.”
Suppressing his amusement, Shen Qianci feigned confusion. “What ex-boyfriend? Look closely. Who am I?”
Qin Guanyu plopped down on the furthest possible end of the sofa. “Shen Qianci, your games are so childish.”
“Who is Shen Qianci?” Teacher Shen’s acting skills came on suddenly. “That substitute you found who looks just like me?”
On the other side of the sofa, Little President Qin’s spine snapped straight. He whipped around to stare at him in utter disbelief.
“You’re… you’re not Shen Qianci?!”
“I am Shu Yi.”
“How is that possible!” The alcohol-addled brain of Little President Qin walked right into yet another trap tonight. “Shu Yi and I have never even spoken. Why would you show up here in the middle of the night?”
Shen Qianci arched an eyebrow slightly. So Qin Guanyu and his white moonlight had never even spoken a word to each other? Then what on earth had this guy been doing traveling to Hengcheng every single week?
He really was just purely “moon gazing”…
Marveling at this revelation, Teacher Shen continued his act: “That substitute you found… is he not very good-looking?”
A look of unadulterated confusion washed over Qin Guanyu’s face. “Are you blind?”
Shen Qianci almost burst out laughing on the spot. Slowly, he leaned closer to the man.
“But just now, I heard you say you hated him.”
Qin Guanyu looked down with guilt. “I hate him, but it’s not because he’s ugly.”
“Have you liked me for a very long time?”
Little President Qin suddenly grew incredibly bashful. He didn’t even dare to look at “Shu Yi,” appearing incredibly innocent. It took him a long time to finally utter a single “hmm.”
Mimicking Shu Yi’s smile and tone, Shen Qianci said, “No wonder you hate that substitute.”
Confused, Qin Guanyu lifted his head. “What… what does this have to do with the substitute?”
“If someone truly likes another person, how could they tolerate having a lookalike hovering around them every single day?”
These words cast direct doubt on the authenticity of the “affection” Qin Guanyu kept claiming to have.
Sure enough, Qin Guanyu was so shocked his pupils dilated. “I… I… then I don’t want the substitute anymore!”
“Shu Yi” smiled gently, took his hand, and guided him into the bedroom.
“Go to sleep first and think it over carefully.”
The faint scent of mint and lime in the bedroom kept prompting Qin Guanyu to recall the image of Shen Qianci wearing his gold-rimmed glasses, as well as the sensation of that glasses chain brushing against his cheek.
But very quickly, he snapped out of it.
His white moonlight had just questioned his devotion; how could he possibly be reminiscing about the substitute right in front of his white moonlight!
“Sleep now.”
“Shu Yi” patted his shoulder, prompting him to lie down on the bed.
Qin Guanyu stared at him obediently. But after “Shu Yi” adjusted the air conditioner temperature and turned on the nightlight, he truly vanished into thin air at the bedroom doorway, just like a fleeting ray of moonlight.
This was the very first time Little President Qin had ever spoken to his “white moonlight,” yet before he could even process the wild ecstasy of it, the question posed by “Shu Yi” hit him like a freight train, leaving him utterly dizzy.
He tossed and turned in bed.
Ten minutes later, the “drunken fish” flipped upright and bolted out of the room.
“Shu Yi, I’ve decided!”
In the warm glow of the living room floor lamp, he spotted the slender silhouette lying on the sofa.
But when he hurried over, he was met with a pair of amber eyes brimming with tears.
Qin Guanyu felt a sudden chill surge from the soles of his feet straight to the top of his head. He was hit with a bizarre, absurd sensation as if he had been caught red-handed by his wife after fooling around outside.
“Th-Teacher Shen?”
With reddened eyes, Shen Qianci sniffled and rolled over from his back onto his side, curling himself into a tight, pathetic-looking little ball.
“Why are you crying?” At a complete loss, Qin Guanyu reached out to wipe his tears away, only for the other man to dodge his touch.
“I heard everything you two said just now.”
This time, cold sweat really started pouring down Qin Guanyu’s neck. He played dumb: “Wh-what did we say?”
“You said you hated me,” Shen Qianci choked out in a soft, trembling voice. “I thought you were different… but you’re exactly like my ex-boyfriend.”
“Ex-boyfriend?” Qin Guanyu felt as though an infinite loop of advanced calculus formulas was spinning through his brain. “How did you and your ex-boyfriend break up?”
Shen Qianci wrapped his thin blanket tightly around himself, pretending to be utterly heartbroken. “I didn’t know he had a white moonlight, and I didn’t know he was just using me as a substitute the whole time. Later, the white moonlight came back…”
He deliberately paused at this highly imaginative cliffhanger.
Sure enough, Qin Guanyu clenched his fists in righteous fury. “He abandoned you and bullied you, didn’t he?! What a scumbag!”
Shen Qianci didn’t answer; he merely lowered his gaze. Qin Guanyu took this as a silent confirmation.
As rage flared up inside him, Qin Guanyu tilted his head and caught sight of Shen Steam Bun sitting in his cat bed. Instantly, his fury reached a boiling point.
“Is that the child you secretly gave birth to behind his back?!”
Shen Qianci: “…”
He thought he was already a master of dramatic overacting, but it turned out there was an even greater expert in the room!
Little President Qin must have read far too many substitute trope novels over the past few days; his knowledge bases had gotten completely tangled up. Now that he was heavily intoxicated, he had essentially transformed into a clichéd melodrama machine. Wherever the plot was trashiest, he pressed right into it.
Shen Qianci countered, “I really can’t give birth to—”
Before he could finish the words “a cat,” Qin Guanyu grabbed him by the wrist.
“Did giving birth to that child ruin your health? Did that scumbag order you to take the child and never appear in front of his white moonlight ever again?!!”
Shen Qianci: “…”
Right now, his mind was completely filled with the voice of that famous comedy sketch: He’s already learned how to shout out the answers before I even ask!!!
Fine then. If Qin Guanyu insisted it was so, then so be it.
Shen Qianci feigned a little flinch. “He said I wasn’t worthy of bearing his child, and a few days ago, he even stabbed the baby.”
“I am going to beat that piece of trash to death!!!”
Qin Guanyu slammed the table and stood up, charging straight toward the windowsill succulent, only to find it completely empty. “Where is he?! Wasn’t he just standing right here?!”
Shen Qianci snuck a glance toward the kitchen. While Qin Guanyu was in the bathroom earlier, he had moved that “monstrous abs” succulent into the kitchen.
“He came by just now to warn me, telling me to take the child and get out of this city.”
“Who the hell does he think he is?!! Does having more abs mean he can just do whatever he wants?!!” Qin Guanyu gripped Shen Qianci’s slender shoulders with both hands. “What is that scumbag’s name? I’ll get revenge for you!”
Shen Qianci replied, “His last name is Wang.”
Qin Guanyu straightened his posture, a cold, bloodthirsty grin spreading across his face like a wolf.
“The weather is turning cold. It’s time to make the Wang Corporation go bankrupt!!”
“Pfft—”
Shen Qianci really couldn’t hold it in any longer. He buried himself deep into the blanket, his shoulders shaking violently from laughter.
Thinking he was sobbing uncontrollably, Qin Guanyu hurriedly leaned down and gently patted his back through the blanket.
“Please don’t cry anymore, okay? From now on, I’ll protect you and the child. No one will ever dare bully you again.”
Qin Guanyu spent a solid half-hour coaxing him. As he did, his mind automatically filled in the blanks regarding “Teacher Shen’s tragic past.” The more his brain embellished the backstory, the angrier and sadder he became.
Ultimately, after finishing his attempts to comfort Teacher Shen, he spent another half-hour weeping over “the child who had been stabbed,” Shen Steam Bun, while cradling the bewildered cat in his arms.
