BF Chapter 37

Gift

When Xu Shen went downstairs to head out, he ran into Xu Zikang.

He greeted him and was about to leave, but then stopped and turned back to ask Xu Zikang, “Third Brother, do you have any recommendations for where Nicky and I could go on a date? Where do you and Mr. Zhan usually go on dates?”

Xu Zikang was stumped by the question and said somewhat awkwardly, “You could take your girlfriend somewhere like an amusement park. Nic and I usually just meet up for meals and chat, so I can’t really give you any suggestions.”

“Then Mr. Zhan really isn’t romantic at all,” Xu Shen said, tilting his head. “He’s so busy with work all the time, it’s amazing that you can put up with him.”

Xu Zikang said, “I’m used to it…”

Xu Shen continued, “But Nicky doesn’t like places like amusement parks either. I made plans with her to go out to sea for my birthday, so I probably won’t be coming back tonight.”

“Go ahead,” Xu Zikang nodded. “Happy birthday, have fun.”

Xu Shen smiled: “Thanks. Nicky and I will make sure to enjoy some quality time together.”

Half an hour later, his car pulled into the yacht club parking lot. Just as he turned off the engine, Xu Shen looked up and caught sight of a familiar figure walking past ahead.

It was Xu Ziren’s female secretary, Fiona, dressed alluringly and seductively, seemingly here to meet someone for a date as well.

Xu Shen looked at the time. It was three in the afternoon.

Xu Ziren was accompanying his wife to an event held by the Zhaoqi Charitable Foundation today, so the person Fiona had come here to meet certainly wasn’t him.

Xu Shen tapped his fingers against the steering wheel twice, narrowed his eyes in thought for a moment, then pushed open the door and got out.

By the time Zhan Shili arrived, Xu Shen was leaning against the railing on the deck, basking in the sun looking relaxed and carefree.

Hearing footsteps behind him, he didn’t turn around and asked, “Do you know whose yacht is docked at Pier 8 over there?”

Zhan Shili glanced in the direction he was referring to; the yacht there had already sailed away.

“That’s He Mingzheng of Zhuosheng’s private dock. He likes the number eight, so he bought it from someone else at a high price. Quite a few people know about this,” Zhan Shili explained.

Xu Shen looked in that direction and said cryptically, “So that’s how it is…”

When he had arrived earlier, he had seen Fiona board the yacht docked there, after which the yacht had sailed away from the pier.

So that was it.

Zhan Shili asked, “What?”

“Nothing.” Xu Shen smiled and brushed the subject aside. Turning around, he raised a hand and hooked a finger around one of the buttons on Zhan Shili’s shirt. “Why are you always so slow? I’ve been waiting for so long.”

Zhan Shili turned his head and kissed him lightly on the lips before explaining, “I went to pick up the gift I bought you, so it took a little longer.”

Xu Shen was slightly surprised: “There’s even a gift? What is it?”

“I’ll give it to you later.”

After saying that, Zhan Shili headed into the cabin first. Ten minutes later, the yacht left the harbor.

Once they reached the open sea, Zhan Shili shut off the engine and walked out onto the deck. Xu Shen was sitting there, idly video chatting with his godbrother Cai Lihao.

Zhan Shili went to sit down beside him.

When Cai Lihao saw Zhan Shili appear on screen, he greeted him with a smile before cursing at Xu Shen: “Brat, you really have no conscience. You take your darling out to sea on a date while I have to clean up all these messes for you.”

“Thanks for your hard work, Brother Paul,” Xu Shen said without the slightest bit of shame. “I’ll lend you the yacht to have some fun next time.”

“Do I look like I need you to lend me a yacht?” Cai Lihao said irritably. “Forget it, I’m the one benefiting in the end anyway. But I haven’t done this kind of low-class thing in a while, so I’m a little rusty. I’m hanging up, that Director Huang of yours is almost here. I’ll tell you the result in a bit. Have fun.”

Xu Shen thanked him and ended the video call.

Zhan Shili asked, “What did you get your godbrother to do this time? Something to do with Director Huang?”

Xu Shen was still holding the tablet. He pulled up a video for Zhan Shili to watch, one that Cai Lihao had sent him the night before.

The video depicted an explicit scene between a young couple. The drunk man roughly tore at the girl’s clothes, slapping her from time to time while cursing, “You bitch, you already got into bed with me, so what are you pretending for?” as he tried to force himself on her. Then the door was kicked open and Cai Lihao’s men rushed inside, some carrying knives. They dragged the naked man off the bed, tied him to a chair, and dumped a bucket of ice water over his head.

“The girl isn’t even sixteen yet and you dared to touch her? Are you tired of living?!”

The video ended there.

Zhan Shili understood immediately: “The man in the video is Huang Dexing’s son?”

“Yeah.” Xu Shen casually tossed the tablet aside. “A top student who just came back to Hong Kong after finishing his master’s, with a bright future ahead of him. Huang Dexing brags about him everywhere, who in the company doesn’t know?”

Zhan Shili understood: “You had them set this up? No wonder you weren’t surprised at all when something similar happened to Xu Tianlang last time.”

Xu Shen slowly drew a finger across his throat in a cutting gesture: “Nic, lust really is a double-edged sword. Tricks like this are things we got tired of playing with ages ago.”

Zhan Shili raised a hand and brushed his fingers across Xu Shen’s face: “Was it fun?”

Xu Shen leaned over and wrapped both arms around Zhan Shili’s waist: “But a trick like this definitely wouldn’t work on you.”

“Not necessarily.” Zhan Shili paused before continuing, “It wouldn’t work if it were someone else, but Young Master Shen could try doing it personally.”

Xu Shen blinked, then laughed loudly: “Oh~”

Zhan Shili got up and returned to the inner cabin to prepare dinner, and Xu Shen followed him inside.

“Aren’t you curious what I had my godbrother invite Director Huang over for?”

Zhan Shili said, “Won’t I find out soon enough?”

True.

Half an hour later, Cai Lihao sent over another video along with two words: [It’s done.]

In the video, Huang Dexing was forced to sign a share transfer agreement in exchange for the compromising videos of his son and the “victim” agreeing not to pursue the matter.

Zhan Shili asked, “Who are his shares being transferred to? You?”

“Of course it’s not me.” Xu Shen peeled off a piece of orange and tossed it into his mouth. “You think I’m stupid? They’re being transferred to Herong. It’s a pity, Huang Dexing doesn’t own much, less than two percent, but it’s better than nothing.”

Zhan Shili asked curiously, “You’re transferring them to your godbrother’s company, you really trust him that much?”

“Don’t even try to drive a wedge between me and my godbrother.” Xu Shen held a piece of orange to Zhan Shili’s lips and watched with satisfaction as he obediently took it into his mouth. “What we have between us is loyalty, understand?”

Zhan Shili tasted the sweet and tart juices of the orange, his tone turning slightly subtle: “Then what do you have with me?”

“With you, it’d be love.” Xu Shen leaned in, licking away the trace of juice at the corner of his mouth, “It just depends on whether Mr. Zhan is willing to give me that honor.”

“If you want dinner, go sit over there.” Zhan Shili’s gaze swept over Xu Shen’s bright, catlike eyes. “Stop messing around.”

Xu Shen stayed close to him and laughed for a while before obediently backing away.

As Zhan Shili prepared the ingredients, he said seriously, “This kind of method can only be used once, and you were only able to do this to Director Huang because he owns so few shares. If he were a major shareholder, things wouldn’t have been this simple.”

“If he hadn’t helped Xu Ziren target me, I wouldn’t have planned on using something like this either,” Xu Shen said disdainfully. “He can blame it on his own bad luck.”

Zhan Shili had no interest in pursuing the topic and returned his attention to the ingredients in his hands.

Before the sun had completely set, Xu Shen’s birthday dinner was ready. Zhan Shili motioned for him to sit at the dining table and poured out the decadent red wine.

There was also a cake on the table, which Zhan Shili had brought.

After clinking glasses, Zhan Shili asked, “Do you have any birthday wishes?”

Xu Shen gave it some thought, then looked at him and said slowly, “I hope my baby will belong to me and only me.”

Zhan Shili tried to discern if there was a rare trace of sincerity in his expression at that moment, but it was still too difficult. He clinked glasses with him again: “Mn.”

The waves rose and fell as darkness gradually enveloped the sea.

After dinner, Xu Shen asked, “Can you give it to me now? My birthday present.”

Zhan Shili handed it over. It was a beautifully wrapped box with a fair amount of weight to it. Xu Shen bounced it around lightly in his hands, unable to guess what was inside.

Zhan Shili said, “Open it and see.”

Xu Shen glanced at him, then patiently unwrapped the packaging little by little and opened the box.

Completely beyond Xu Shen’s expectations, lying inside the black velvet-lined box was a pistol with a silver body and black grip, exquisitely crafted. His name was engraved on the barrel in cursive: Seren.

Five bullets lay in a small compartment beside it, their metallic surfaces gleaming faintly.

Xu Shen picked up the pistol and fiddled with it in his hands for a moment: “Cool~”

He hadn’t expected Zhan Shili to actually give him a real gun.

“A Desert Eagle, custom-made,” Zhan Shili said. “Satisfied with your birthday present?”

“Nic.” Xu Shen gently ran his fingers over his own name engraved on the gun. “How did you get your hands on this?”

Zhan Shili replied, “If you really want something, there’s always a way to get it. I’m not like Young Master Shen, with a godbrother who’s the boss of a triad, but I know plenty of people from all walks of life too.”

Xu Shen’s smiling eyes glimmered like gems in the light: “Giving me this… aren’t you afraid I’ll actually do something outrageous?”

Zhan Shili shook his head slightly: “Your temper isn’t great, but you’re not the kind of person who acts impulsively without thinking. This is for you to play with or use for self-defense, and hopefully there’ll never be a time when you actually need it.”

Xu Shen didn’t comment on that: “Hopefully.”

“You still haven’t answered me yet,” Zhan Shili persisted. “Are you satisfied?”

Xu Shen dipped a finger into the cream on the cake, leaned forward, and dabbed it onto the tip of Zhan Shili’s nose: “Very satisfied.”

When Zhan Shili picked him up, Xu Shen wrapped his arms around his neck and naturally hooked both legs around his waist. Like a cat, he leaned in and licked away the cream he had just smeared onto the tip of Zhan Shili’s nose.

Zhan Shili carried him onto the bed, feeling a ticklish sensation from the lick, which only made his heart itch even more. He raised a hand and roughly ruffled his hair.

Xu Shen kept laughing, laughing until Zhan Shili felt both unsettled and annoyed.

“What are you laughing at?”

Hearing his gruff question, Xu Shen gently bit the tip of his nose before letting go, sighing, “You said the other day that you’d be a little nicer to me, but you have so little patience.”

Zhan Shili’s voice was no longer quite as steady: “I’ve never met a young master as difficult to please as you.”

“Isn’t that exactly what you like about me?” Xu Shen had already seen through him. The hand resting around Zhan Shili’s neck slid downward and pressed lightly against his chest. “Your heart is beating so fast.”

Zhan Shili placed his hands on either side of Xu Shen’s head and looked down at him, falling silent for a moment.

His out-of-control heartbeat brought him a rather ominous feeling.

Xu Shen lay on the bed and met Zhan Shili’s gaze directly. His smile faded, but his eyes held a tender, almost affectionate look. Zhan Shili’s heartbeat grew increasingly erratic, and he wasn’t sure whether what he saw was merely his imagination.

Xu Shen brought a finger to his lips, the implication clear.

Zhan Shili held a vague sense of unease, as if he was actually the one being tamed and controlled. He casually picked up the gun Xu Shen had tossed beside the bed, lightly tapped the grip against Xu Shen’s cheek, ordering, “Open your mouth.”

Xu Shen understood what he meant from his eyes, but instead of kissing him, he kissed Zhan Shili’s fingers that were holding the gun.

His warm lips travelled along each finger and touched the fingertips, that subtle warmth seemingly travelling all the way into the deepest part of Zhan Shili’s heart.

As he did so, Xu Shen kept his eyes fixed on Zhan Shili’s the entire time, his gaze hypnotic.

He kissed the gun barrel, kissed his own name engraved on it, and then, as Zhan Shili wished, opened his mouth and took the barrel into his lips.

A smile returned to Xu Shen’s eyes as his tongue traced over the muzzle, occasionally drawing the barrel farther into his mouth and back out again like an unmistakable metaphor.

Those ambiguous sounds were intimate and obscene.

Zhan Shili’s throat bobbed. He reached out and firmly pinched Xu Shen’s chin, threw the gun onto the floor, and lowered his head to kiss him.
