ITF Chapter58

Bai Heting’s forehead rested against Luo Congye’s chest, where a clear and distinct heartbeat was thumping.

“Now, not only do I have nothing, but I will also place you in a dangerous situation.” Luo Congye placed his hand on Bai Heting’s shoulder blade, his fingertips tracing that scar from beginning to end just as he had done before, his voice growing increasingly despondent as he spoke. “I originally intended to leave after saying all this to you. But I ruined it.”

From this angle, he could see the shocking bruises on Bai Heting’s body, as well as the bite mark on the back of his neck that hadn’t even begun to form a scab.

He had always wanted to become the general’s most reliable spear and shield, but in the end, the general had been plunged into danger time and again because of him.

His voice grew somewhat strained, “I didn’t expect things to turn out like this…”

Bai Heting had already contemplated this issue thoroughly before the man woke up.

No matter who had set the trap, their target could not possibly be Luo Congye; rather, it was the person Luo Congye might assault.

He was their true target.

Perhaps it was the exact same group of people who had drugged him during the autumn hunt.

They not only knew his movements, but they also knew Luo Congye’s whereabouts.

There wasn’t just Bai Yi’s spy by his side.

Averting his gaze from the back of Bai Heting’s neck, Luo Congye earnestly repeated, “Let me stay with you until the mark fades. When that time comes, I will leave.”

As he mentioned leaving once more, Bai Heting lifted his head again.

“It’s just… a bit of regret. That day I left too hastily, and I didn’t bring anything out with me.” At this point, Luo Congye’s voice faltered, and he gently closed his eyes. “I can’t take anything with me.”

Bai Heting slid his fingers, slowly brushing across the man’s lower lip, then exerted more force to pull his chin down.

Luo Congye opened his eyes as Bai Heting’s face leaned in close.

With his eyes tightly shut, he gently kissed Luo Congye’s lips.

The hazy morning light illuminated that focused and emotional face.

Luo Congye’s breathing grew rushed and hot under his kiss. He thought in a daze that his pheromones were currently playing tricks inside the general’s body, creating a time-limited, illusory affection.

Perhaps this was the moment the general loved him most in this lifetime.

He pressed his hand against Bai Heting’s back, then rolled over and pinned him beneath him, reversing their positions as he returned the kiss.

He kissed the bruises on the general’s shoulders, then trailed down to his waist and thighs, covering the faint finger marks there with lingering, deliberate kisses.

He ought to apologize for losing control and beg for the general’s forgiveness, but when the words reached his lips, they turned into: “I love you.”

With a slight tremor in his breath, Bai Heting raised his arms and climbed onto his shoulders.

Luo Congye locked eyes with him and said once more, “I love you.”

Bai Heting reached up to kiss him while panting.

He was tossed to the crest of pleasure’s waves time and again with his hands and feet coiling tightly around the scalding body above him.

He had been used to walking alone ever since he was a child.

He knew very well that everything in life would come and go; it was merely a matter of sooner or later. For example, that so-called “mother” he was never sure he could truly call a mother; that small gray bird he had named “Bread”; the beloved horses that had died from broken bones; and the subordinates he had once valued deeply, only to see them fall at the hands of the enemy.

Parting was a commonplace occurrence in life.

A sharp, severe pain struck his lower body as the thing embedded inside him was suddenly pulled out.

Bai Heting snapped his eyes open to meet Luo Congye’s panicked gaze.

The veins stood out along the arms braced on either side of his body, and a bead of hot sweat slid down Luo Congye’s chin, dripping onto his heaving chest.

Bai Heting thought abstractedly that it must be the tequila pheromones inside his body affecting his judgment.

Instinct truly was a difficult thing to contend with.

“Come inside.” He said.

Something must have been mistaken. Luo Congye slowly sat upright on the straw mat, murmuring, “What?”

But the general’s eyes were so bright, while his expression was so calm.

Bai Heting raised his hand to wipe away a drop of sweat that was about to slide down the side of the man’s face. Looking at him, he said, “I will take you to see the sea.”

“What did you say, General?” Luo Congye was still dazed.

Bai Heting rolled over to lie prone on the mat, exposing his back.

“Come inside.” He took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. “Don’t make me say it a third time.”
