“Did you just see someone on the cable car?”
In the swirling wind and snow, Zhan Pingchuan’s face was especially grave.
Lance and Oliver were both stunned, turning their eyes to the cable car at the same time.
The cable car sat silently at one end of the cable chain, its doors tightly closed, windowpanes thick with frost, and not a single human footprint in sight.
“No,” Lance replied, but he didn’t take Zhan Pingchuan’s words as a joke. Instead, he asked, “Who?”
Zhan Pingchuan furrowed his brows. The fleeting image from before suddenly felt unreal, as if it were just his own far-fetched imagination.
“Maybe—” Zhan Pingchuan was about to dismiss the strange vision, but then he realized something was wrong!
He raised his palm—snowflakes naturally fell into his hand and melted into water.
He distinctly remembered that in those few seconds of the vision, the sky wasn’t snowing, and he hadn’t heard the sound of snowflakes hitting his down jacket.
So it wasn’t like those two people had suddenly appeared in the cable car at this moment; it was more like he had suddenly appeared beside them!
“You know what black cable gold is, right?” Zhan Pingchuan said.
Oliver looked puzzled. He’d never cared much for fighting or weapons, and after entering Blue Pivot, he’d been locked up in prison almost immediately, so he hadn’t had time to learn about these things.
Lance answered directly, “High explosives.”
Zhan Pingchuan nodded. “I saw those two people installing high explosives on the cable car.”
Oliver looked again at the empty cable car, a chill creeping into his heart. “But… there can’t be anyone.”
Zhan Pingchuan exhaled softly, his breath turning to mist in the air. “Maybe what I saw wasn’t happening right now.”
He focused his gaze, suddenly activated his ability pheromones, and the scent of bitter gentian spread through the snow. In his ears, there was a faint, ticking sound like a second hand.
The world before his eyes seemed to be covered by a transparent film. He could clearly feel something invisible flowing around his body. He tried to touch that flow—his fingertips became transparent, and he saw the two people in the cable car again, hearing the unfinished sentence:
“—Can this black cable gold really blow up the Black Lantern Society rebels? What if they don’t come?”
“Then just let a few more Hachimo people die,” the other replied indifferently.
“Huh?” Zhan Pingchuan was disgusted by their conversation.
“Damn, did you hear anything?” one asked.
“What sound? Ghosts? Hurry up,” the other said, glancing at the empty, snowy ground.
Zhan Pingchuan quickly covered his mouth.
The person’s gaze swept over him and then moved away.
At that moment, Zhan Pingchuan’s vision went black, and a powerful force yanked him away from the spot. When he came to, the cable car was still empty, and Lance was gripping his arm tightly, frowning at him.
“You just disappeared from right here,” Lance said, his breath misting in the air.
It had only been a short disappearance, but it was enough to be shocking.
Zhan Pingchuan looked at his own palm and more or less understood.
“Darling, I think I just went back to the past.”
He was simply incredulous. How could a spatial ability with a gene lock be broken?
Didn’t that mean he could go see his wife’s babyish childhood? Maybe even feed her a bottle, rock her cradle, tell her fairy tales.
Thank the heavens, thank the gods from every direction.
The Outer God, sensing the S-class’s sincere gratitude, opened its eyes in the chaos and gazed upon all things through Lance’s eyes.
Indeed, any human is more devout than Its channel.
It only bestowed a tiny miracle on this human, and he awakened a fourth-tier ability in a very short time.
Seeing his shocked and delighted expression, he must be thinking about how to conquer the world and rule all of humanity.
“Siku zote nina weza kuba hati ya wanada kwa urah……” (I can always easily change the fate of humans.)
Lance ignored the Outer God’s boasting and instead focused on Zhan Pingchuan.
“So, you just time traveled?”
“Pretty much, but I can’t hold it for long, and I can’t choose the exact time to go back. Just now, I used up almost half of my ability pheromones.”
At his age, he hadn’t fully mastered his third-tier ability, and using a fourth-tier ability was even more exhausting. He didn’t have time to figure out the limits of this power now.
But better to use it well than not at all—at least now he knew what the Federation’s first trap was.
“Fourth-tier abilities really do take a huge toll on the body, because they’re pushing the limits of human capability,” Oliver explained softly.
Most people only have one ability in their lifetime. Those who can use two are already prodigies. Only a rare few, like Si Hongche, can awaken a third-tier ability. To have a fourth-tier ability requires luck and the right circumstances.
Oliver’s fourth-tier ability, [Conjugation], appeared when he was thirty. That day, a dying cicada landed on the small window of his solitary cell. Its wings were torn, limbs severed, abdomen trembling and oozing.
He pitied it, envied it. It was about to die, and it could die.
Oliver couldn’t help but reach out his tendrils and gently touch it.
But the moment the tendrils touched the cicada’s wings, he suddenly felt his own life force draining away, just like the cicada.
He was shocked, but never pulled his tendrils back.
Unfortunately, Si Hongche saw it on the monitors. He was pinned to the bed and treated by a healer for a whole day.
After that, Si Hongche lined the entire solitary cell with rare lead ore.
“But our Fata has energy-replenishing medicine,” Oliver offered helpfully.
“Tsk, is that a special order?” Zhan Pingchuan remembered that Lance had once treated his whip wounds with an ointment that worked almost like a superpower—probably from Fata.
The Outer God, sensing the human’s growing joy and gratitude, brushed aside the chaos, stepped out of the void, and said to Its ungrateful channel—
“Wana da mu shuku kwa zadi zan ikuwa wew……” (Humans are grateful for my gifts—except you.)
Lance habitually ignored Its boasting.
“Not a special order, but I can reward you,” Lance said calmly, releasing star magnolia pheromones to soothe Zhan Pingchuan’s tired glands. “Looks like the other side guessed what advice Oliver would give us.”
“It’s ridiculous. I don’t know which of us is more like an illegal organization. We just knocked out a Hachimo, but the Federation government is sending them to die in the cable car,” Zhan Pingchuan said, breathing in the star magnolia scent.
Oliver sighed. “It’s more than that. Just think how many lives will be lost when they try to repair this place in the future.”
The high-ranking Federation officials would never get their hands dirty. The ones exploited are the Hachimo people living on the border, risking their lives to survive.
Lance looked deeply at the Loracity Icefield shrouded in fog. Even if they dismantled the explosives, the Hachimo people bringing supplies to the other side would never find the real entrance.
“Let’s go back for now. Looks like we’ll need a new plan,” Lance said, growing more anxious inside.
He knew time was tight. With so many of them in Samp Town, they’d be discovered sooner or later, and then even the element of surprise would be lost.
Just as the three were about to drive back, Lance’s gaze suddenly landed on the snow-covered tire tracks. His pupils shrank, and he stopped, calling urgently, “Someone!”
Next to the tire tracks were footprints that had been deliberately covered, but in the rush, even the tire marks had been partially covered.
As soon as he finished speaking, a small figure suddenly darted out from behind the bearberry bushes at high speed!
The person was dressed all in white, blending into the snow, very inconspicuous. Although short, their stride was long—clearly agile and well-trained, leaving a trail of hurried footprints in the snow.
“Trying to run?”
Zhan Pingchuan and Oliver moved almost simultaneously, silver threads and vines flashing toward the figure like lightning!
Lance remained calm, standing his ground—he wasn’t worried at all that anyone could escape from his two S-class teammates.
Sure enough, the silver threads and vines quickly caught up to the white figure. The person turned their head, instantly terrified out of their wits. Suddenly, they hugged themselves tightly—a flash of white light enveloped them, and their body shrank rapidly until they were thumb-sized, then “plop”—they fell into the snowdrift and disappeared.
“Holy crap!”
Both the silver threads and vines struck empty air. Zhan Pingchuan was dumbfounded, and Oliver was just as shocked.
Lance narrowed his eyes. “We can’t let them get away!”
No sooner had he spoken than Zhan Pingchuan snapped his fingers, summoning several barriers to act as shovels, furiously digging at the snow in that spot.
Snowflakes flew everywhere as the barriers dug back and forth, nearly gouging a pit in the snow.
Oliver’s vines swept the thick snow like brooms.
As the snow was tossed about, a thumb-sized little person was flung out, flailing their limbs and landing heavily on the ground. Forced to return to normal size, the figure shivered as they wrapped themselves in a white cotton coat.
The silver threads and vines instantly wrapped around them, hauling them up in front of everyone.
Lance looked closely and saw it was a girl with short-cropped hair, about fifteen or sixteen, lips purple from cold, teeth chattering, unable to say a full sentence.
“I… if this weren’t the polar region, there’s no way… I’d get caught by the Rite Gate!” she said angrily.
Her ability only let her shrink her body, not her coat, so she couldn’t hide in the snow for long and had to return to normal to put her coat back on.
Zhan Pingchuan laughed. “Every villain says tough words when they’re about to die.”
“I’m not a villain!” The girl clearly hadn’t been awakened long, had no idea how powerful these people were, and puffed up her neck, glaring with big round eyes, looking completely unafraid of death.
Lance asked Zhan Pingchuan, “What level is she?”
Zhan Pingchuan: “Probably C-rank. Other than shrinking, no attack power at all.”
The girl was indignant, chin trembling. “Who’s shrinking! I’m super strong!”
Oliver frowned, crouched down, and said gently, “You’re too cold. We have heat in the car. If you don’t run, can I let you go?”
The girl’s eyes darted. “Okay! It’s a deal!”
Oliver was about to retract his vines.
Lance shook his head helplessly. Oliver was just too kind—even eighteen years of disaster hadn’t changed his nature. Who knew if that was good or bad.
Zhan Pingchuan said bluntly, “If you trust her, what good could a Federation informant be?”
“I’m not a Federation informant!” The girl seemed angered by the label, and didn’t bother to keep up the act with Oliver, loudly denying it.
Zhan Pingchuan sneered, immediately trapping her with a barrier to prevent her shrinking and escaping, then dragged her into the car with silver threads and turned on the heat.
After a while, the girl finally regained her color and stopped shivering.
Lance drew the Black Mamba blade and pressed it to her throat, his gaze cold and merciless. “Who are you?”
Since the White Pharaoh’s identity was already exposed, he didn’t bother to act innocent in front of Zhan Pingchuan.
The girl quickly lowered her eyes, nervously watching the cold, gleaming knife.
“Move it away… I’m not going to run.”
Lance sneered, the tip of the blade pressing an inch closer, voice icy: “I don’t have time to waste. You heard our conversation, saw our faces—if you don’t say something interesting right now, you’re dead.”
Oliver blinked but obediently stayed silent.
Zhan Pingchuan stroked his chin, studying this very different side of his little fox, heart pounding.
Hmm, this girl was an Alpha, and Lance was threatening another Alpha so fiercely—while secretly releasing soothing pheromones to him.
What could he say? Even passing ants ought to bow to him and his wife.
The girl was clearly seeing such a fierce Omega for the first time. She was so intimidated she really thought she was going to die, and her voice trembled: “I—I know where the entrance to that prison is!”
