Three weeks after surgery, Ogiwara was discharged from the hospital without complications. While he still needed the brace for his right knee, he managed to walk to the parking lot unaided by a cane.

However, regular checkups were still necessary for a while. To regain the flexibility in his knee, he planned to focus intensively on rehabilitation throughout the summer vacation. Minato’s tutoring sessions would take place at Ogiwara’s home, scheduled between those rehabilitation sessions.

In late August, Minato faced the second round of teacher employment exams. Having passed the first stage successfully, he decided to take a break from tutoring a week before the exams, assigning tasks to Ogiwara instead. On August 22nd, after completing everything, he visited Ogiwara’s home for the first time in about a week.

Ogiwara’s house was a ten-minute walk from the station, located in a quiet residential area. It was a Western-style building with an elegant gate—so striking that Minato often found himself looking up at it whenever he stood in front.

As he pressed the intercom, Minato wiped the sweat from his forehead. The short ten-minute walk from the station under the blazing sun had left the back of his shirt damp with sweat.

“…Huh?”

Ogiwara was remarkably punctual, and he usually responded to the intercom immediately when Minato visited. Yet, this time, even after waiting several seconds, there was no reply.

Just as Minato considered calling him, the front door opened on the other side of the gate. A calm, refined man with rimless glasses walked briskly toward him.

“You must be Hosokawa-san. I’m sorry to trouble you in this heat.”

It was Ogiwara’s older brother, Masayuki. Surprised, Minato blinked in confusion.

This man, older than Minato, was said to live far away due to his work. Minato had met him once before during Ogiwara’s hospital stay, when Masayuki mentioned he was home for summer vacation.

Even so, this seemed like a particularly long vacation. However, they weren’t close enough for Minato to comment on it, so he simply offered a polite bow. “It’s been a while.”

“It’s been a while. My mother told me about you. It seems Koushi is still as selfish as ever. I apologize for my troublesome little brother.”

“Not at all. Ogiwara-kun is diligent and a pleasure to teach.”

“He’s cunning and sharp-witted, always willing to put in effort to get his way. Of course, I’d never say that too loudly. Please, come in.”

Masayuki smiled gently and gestured for Minato to enter.

“Dedication is Ogiwara-kun’s greatest strength. It’s impressive to see up close.”

“That’s very kind of you to say, Hosokawa-san. I’ve never seen anyone handle Koushi as skillfully as you.”

Masayuki’s warm words, accompanied by a smile, left Minato unsure how to respond. As Minato hesitated, Masayuki adjusted his glasses and continued in a calm tone.

“As my mother might have already mentioned, if my brother ever becomes too much to handle, please don’t hesitate to let us know. He has a knack for masking his true self and becomes increasingly difficult to deal with as the years go by. There are times I seriously consider locking him away in a storage room.”

“-Hey, could you not say unnecessary things to Minato-sensei?”

A grumbling voice interrupted. Minato turned to see Ogiwara descending the staircase from the adjacent hall, his face twisted in irritation. Upon making eye contact with Minato, his expression briefly softened in embarrassment before turning into a glare aimed at his brother.

“Minato-sensei came here to see me, so could you not interfere?”

“As the tutor of my adorable little brother, surely I’m allowed some small talk?”

“What part of what you were saying counts as small talk?”

“The staple of small talk is shared topics. Naturally, that means my adorable little brother is the only choice.”

“…It’s creepy when you say ‘adorable’.”

Despite their banter, Ogiwara’s steps were steady and secure as he descended the stairs. Minato had heard that they hadn’t relocated his room from the second floor to encourage his rehabilitation, and from the way he walked, it was clear his progress was steady.

“If Koushi is truly that adorable, I feel tempted to share stories from his past with Hosokawa-san. I bet it’d make for some lively conversation.”

“Minato-sensei doesn’t have time to entertain you. And stop calling me that!”

Ogiwara’s tone grew increasingly annoyed, but Masayuki remained unfazed. His expression was calm and pleasant.

It occurred to Minato that this was his first time observing the brothers’ dynamic up close. He couldn’t help but be captivated by how Ogiwara’s expressions changed with each exchange.

“Weren’t you going out today?” Ogiwara eventually said, exasperation seeping into his tone.

Masayuki responded with a radiant smile. “I changed my mind. I’ll go out tomorrow instead.”

“Oh, really. Well, could you grab my backpack from my room? It’s right inside the door on the right.”

“You won’t get much rehab done if you don’t go yourself.”

“My knee’s been acting up. Coming downstairs alone was already tough.”

As he spoke, Ogiwara rubbed his knee through his chinos. The brace beneath made it slightly misshapen compared to the other knee. Masayuki glanced at it briefly and then nodded, saying only, “Got it,” before heading upstairs.

“Minato-sensei, you came by train again today, didn’t you?”

“Yeah. Also, about that reference book I mentioned last time—it turned out to be much easier to understand than I expected.”

Minato was in the process of taking off his shoes when Ogiwara stopped him. Turning his head toward the sound of footsteps descending the stairs, he found himself meeting the gaze of Masayuki, who held a backpack in one hand.

“Hosokawa-sensei, please come in. Koushi, use the dining room for today’s studying. I’ll get you both something cold to drink. Take your teacher there first.”

“No need. I’m heading out for a bit but will be back in time for dinner.”

Accepting the backpack from Masayuki, Ogiwara quickly slipped on his shoes, carelessly pressing the heel into place. Grabbing Minato by the elbow, he ushered him out of the house. As the door closed behind them, Masayuki’s voice trailed after them.

“Heading out? What about studying? And didn’t you say your knee was bothering you?”

“It’s fine now. Studying at home would just mean dealing with you interfering.”

“You know, Koushi…-”

Cutting off his brother’s words by shutting the door, Ogiwara strode purposefully toward the gate, tugging Minato along by the elbow. Falling into step behind him, Minato suddenly realized he hadn’t properly bid farewell to Masayuki.

*Translator’s Note: There’s another light novel I have, where the MC is a tutor of the younger brother and then there’s an older brother… And it’s a 3P one filled with perverted acts. Hmm… Might go and translate that next for you guys. *coughs coughs*. -K
