For a fleeting moment, the usually lazy and indifferent Ji Chenxi thought he had misheard.
Was this guy teasing him?
A long, elegant finger casually lifted a strand of silver hair, rubbing it lightly. “Not sure if I should say this.”
Ji Chenxi sometimes had a strange, subtle politeness, like he was afraid his words might hurt someone.
Chi Zhuo’s dark eyes locked onto Ji Chenxi, watching his every tiny movement under the harsh white light. A faint, almost imperceptible curve appeared on his lips. “Your Highness, just say whatever you mean.”
Ji Chenxi had been waiting for exactly this line. He tucked the silver strand behind his ear and smiled brightly, letting a truth slip out: “But even if you’re an alpha, haven’t I already marked you twice? If you were an omega…”
After a brief pause, Ji Chenxi continued with a tone almost like a sigh, “That’s not something you can solve just by marking without hesitation.”
No matter how weak an alpha was, these words alone were sharp enough to wound. And Chi Zhuo, a high-ranking alpha who had held power for years, was certainly not someone who could be dismissed lightly.
He should have been angry, but Chi Zhuo, who could read Ji Chenxi’s every expression clearly, showed not a trace of fury. Instead, his chest involuntarily skipped a beat.
At this moment, Ji Chenxi’s flippant words didn’t feel like a declaration of war—they felt more like… flirting.
Chi Zhuo forced down the unusual thump of his heart and followed Ji Chenxi’s lead. “Oh? And what else does Your Highness want to do?”
“Huh?” Ji Chenxi couldn’t hold back his laugh this time.
“You asked me what I want to do. What can an alpha do to an omega? Of course, I’d f— into your… reproductive cavity.” Ji Chenxi’s words were loud and bold, crude yet direct, hitting desires in a way only such blatant talk could. When he reached the last word, he softened it just slightly—a subtle drop in tone that turned what should have been an audacious, arrogant line into something low, sultry, and intimate, like a lover whispering in secret.
Chi Zhuo was momentarily stunned by the audacity of the words.
He quickly rejected the idea. No way. Even if he really were an omega, Ji Chenxi wouldn’t mark him directly. And as for something like a reproductive cavity… that would never be spoken aloud.
These words were meant for Chi Zhuo as an alpha, and no one else.
“Even if I’m not an omega, Your Highness could still give it a try. Just… not sure who’s going to end up inside whose reproductive cavity.” By the end, Chi Zhuo’s voice had dropped low, and even his eyes seemed impossibly deep, unreadable.
“That’s really hard to say.”
Ji Chenxi laughed, narrowing his eyes at Chi Zhuo. His blue gaze radiated a predatory danger, like a beast about to hunt.
A single squint revealed all the sharp disdain in his eyes, arrogance dripping off him as if he were staring at some reckless fool speaking nonsense.
Chi Zhuo took two steps, then one, until he stood beside Ji Chenxi. Looking at the silver-haired youth, tinged with mockery, he grabbed Ji Chenxi’s jaw, bending him down without leaving any room for refusal. His lips pressed roughly against Ji Chenxi’s rose-colored mouth, the kiss harsh enough to almost feel like a bite.
The sudden kiss didn’t catch Ji Chenxi off guard at all. His fingers tapped lightly against Chi Zhuo’s chest, and with a shift of weight, he flung him against the wall. Taking control, he returned the kiss.
Ji Chenxi’s counterattack was far rougher than Chi Zhuo’s initial kiss, the metallic tang of blood instantly filling the air.
Chi Zhuo hesitated for just a moment before wrapping Ji Chenxi in his arms—one hand circling his back, the other threading through the silver hair that shimmered faintly in the light.
The faint scent of roses lingered from Ji Chenxi’s lips. The slightly cold notes of his pheromones stirred Chi Zhuo’s alpha instincts, making him want to dance with the other in a dangerous, intimate rhythm.
Being pinned to the wall is the ultimate weak position, yet Chi Zhuo radiated no weakness at all. He tightened his hold slightly, pulling Ji Chenxi fully into his embrace, and somehow, Ji Chenxi ended up leaning into him, as if offering himself willingly.
Ji Chenxi laughed, kissing back even more fiercely.
Chi Zhuo was the perfect alpha—marked or not, beaten in a fight or not—he could still carry himself with the arrogance of a winner. A temporary defeat was never permanent; he had the pride and power to turn the tables.
By the time Ji Chenxi let go, his lips were stained with blood—and it wasn’t his own.
Ji Chenxi ran his fingers through his disheveled long hair, brushing it back casually. A wicked smile spread across his face as he stuck out his red tongue, licking the blood from his lips. The strong scent of tequila instantly filled his mouth.
A faint trace of annoyance flickered in Ji Chenxi’s eyes — the alpha’s instinctive irritation at another alpha’s pheromones. He shot Chi Zhuo a sideways glance, a warning hidden in his gaze: “Next time you kiss me, try to figure out what gentleness means.”
Unlike most alphas, Ji Chenxi preferred slow, lingering intimacy, soft and tender. But if the other was violent, he would only want to return it with even more intensity and force.
Chi Zhuo’s lips bore a clear mark from the bite. He lightly touched the wound, wiping away the blood, and their eyes met—Ji Chenxi’s sharp, sideways look.
Wild. Fierce.
Chi Zhuo’s Adam’s apple moved slightly as he replied evenly, “Oh.”
“Our pheromones are overflowing.”
Technically, it was Chi Zhuo’s pheromones spilling out.
“You could beg me,” Ji Chenxi added lazily, “I could help you get rid of it.”
Chi Zhuo, of course, wouldn’t beg Ji Chenxi over something so trivial. A little pheromone leak was nothing; even if they didn’t act, Bai Han, who had been observing the situation closely, would handle it completely.
The thought that someone else might have seen them kissing made Ji Chenxi even more irritated.
He stayed silent and moved forward, his steps noticeably quicker than before.
They had wasted some time up ahead. Military personnel were already entering the lab. Even though the system was entirely under his control and he could erase all traces of his presence, it wasn’t impossible that someone entering could have the expertise to detect it. They didn’t need to crack the entire thing—just digging deep enough might expose a faint trace that would lead straight to him.
As Ji Chenxi quickened his pace, Chi Zhuo did the same, falling in step beside him. He deliberately twisted Ji Chenxi’s earlier words. “Next time, gentler? So… Your Highness is looking forward to it?”
“You tell me.”
“If You Highness wants me to guess, then the answer can only be yes.”
Ji Chenxi chuckled lightly. “I have to remind you—you were the one who kissed me first. Even if there’s anticipation, it’s yours, isn’t it, sir?”
Whether marking or kissing, Chi Zhuo had initiated everything. Ji Chenxi, acting as if he had no interest in alphas, made all their earlier intimate gestures feel like a calculated counterattack.
A trace of cold appeared between Chi Zhuo’s brows. “And if I am looking forward to it, what of it? If Your Highness doesn’t give it, can’t I take it myself?”
Planning to just take it by force?
“Take it yourself? Then maybe you should try.” Ji Chenxi’s smile was half-teasing, half-challenging. Neither of them stated anything outright, but the two who had just been wrapped in each other’s arms kissing were suddenly clashing like rivals.
“Next time, either I mark Your Highness, or I enter your… reproductive cavity.”
Intimidation? A threat? Or just anger at Ji Chenxi teasing him too much?
Ji Chenxi’s lips curled into a smile as decadent and vivid as a blooming rose. “I’ll be watching closely.”
“You… like omegas?” Chi Zhuo asked, his tone almost certain.
By now, Ji Chenxi was already leading him toward the exit. Without hesitation, he replied: “I don’t think any alpha could resist a fragile, cute omega. Actually… that’s not right. I misspoke—there are plenty of omegas who are fierce and capable, more than capable, even.”
This attitude—more than just liking—bordered on genuine admiration.
“Then… can Your Highness refuse?” Chi Zhuo tried to catch the slight loophole in Ji Chenxi’s words.
“I’m an alpha too!”
So, naturally, he couldn’t refuse.
“Well, that sure makes it impressive that Your Highness can still go for another alpha.” Chi Zhuo’s jaw tightened, a chill spreading faintly across his face.
“Oh? It’s not impressive at all. How could marking Brother Chi Zhuo be considered difficult?” Ji Chenxi replied with a laugh, then let out a playful, “Ah—” “Could it be that because I marked an alpha before, Brother Chi Zhuo thinks I have… those kinds of thoughts about alphas? Actually, I’m just all talk.”
“Your Highness… I didn’t record that.”
This guy was really quick to clear himself of suspicion.
Ji Chenxi chuckled softly. The two of them were standing close—so close that Chi Zhuo could feel the faint breath of his laugh against his skin. Surrounded by the familiar scent, Chi Zhuo’s mind flickered back to the feeling of another alpha’s pheromones flooding his body. His senses instinctively blocked out the sting of that invasive clash of pheromones, yet what lingered in his memory was the trembling thrill of them tangling together.
After their first meeting at the banquet, Chi Zhuo had gone back and investigated Ji Chenxi. Back then, in that cave, Ji Chenxi had mentioned a gift from “someone important.” Chi Zhuo, groggy at the time, assumed it was something from a lover—a beautiful omega, maybe even the Bai family omega he had an engagement agreement with. It wasn’t until later, when his mind cleared, that he remembered the truth: Ji Chenxi had told him from the start—it was a keepsake left by his mother.
A tiny detail, but enough to show that, in his heart, he felt something slightly different about Ji Chenxi.
Yet now, as the game was about to begin, the other seemed like he might want to back out.
“Your Highness… you could be a bit more honest.”
Ji Chenxi’s smile faded. “And what if… I was telling the truth?”
The beautiful alpha had a way of speaking that always blurred truth and lies, leaving Chi Zhuo unsure—this time, was he being honest, or just playing another game?
They had reached the exit. Normally, this would be where two people parted ways, returning to their own separate paths after a brief, chance encounter.
“Your Highness, want to play a game with me?”
Ji Chenxi’s instinct to avoid unnecessary risk told him not to respond—but it was that very hint of danger that piqued his curiosity. What kind of game did this person want to play?
He kept his expression neutral and asked calmly, “Go on, tell me about it.”
“An alpha falling in love with another alpha is taboo. Their pheromones repel each other, so no two alphas have ever made it to the end together.”
No alpha could resist the temptation of an omega. Most Alpha-Alpha romances ended in cheating or falling out of love. Even choosing another alpha at the start was often driven by conquest rather than affection.
“You’re not suggesting we play a ‘will we make it to the end’ game, are you? Because if that’s the case, there’s really no point in continuing.” Ji Chenxi had little interest in romantic games.
“No,” Chi Zhuo said. “The game is about who falls first, who conquers whom, and who ends up the winner.”
Ji Chenxi smiled. What had seemed like a dull proposition suddenly became intriguing. This was going to be a very interesting game.
He drawled slowly, “A game like this is high-risk. Smart people don’t play games that are too dangerous.”
Ji Chenxi hadn’t expected Chi Zhuo to invite him to a game built on pursuit and conquest—a game where one false step could send you tumbling into the abyss.
“So… will Your Highness play?”
“You’re tempting me with fire.” Ji Chenxi walked a few steps ahead, seeming disinterested, his figure already almost swallowed by the shadows.
“Are you afraid of losing?”
Ji Chenxi glanced back, smiling. “Taunts don’t work on me. People who toy with feelings always end up being toyed with themselves. Besides, if I enter this game with a focused mind and leave… and it ends up the way you hope, I’d be losing both the lady and the battle.”
“Falling first aside, right now I really want to sleep with Your Highness,” Chi Zhuo said bluntly.
“I’ll admit, I’m somewhat interested in that,” Ji Chenxi replied.
“Then I’ll make a bet with Your Highness—let’s see who sleeps with whom first.”

Wow, they really like to play with fire. Good for them, good for them.
Oh man they really know how to flirt! Thank you for the chapter!
The relationship between these two is really compelling. But I admit that Chi Zhuo’s thoughts about “taking by force,” even though the protagonist quickly adapted and got into the game, scare me. Essentially because it doesn’t seem at all like he’s going to act or speak in that way at certain times.
Chi Zhuo is behaving tit-for-tat like how Ji Chenxi treats him.
Initially, despite his pheromones going out of control and being poisoned, he controlled himself and sent away Ji Chenxi multiple times and refused to mark him.
Instead, Ji Chenxi marked him forcefully. And then he did it twice. Who can force whom and if they actually go through with it has become their own unique foreplay and game.
