“It can turn invisible?!”
“No, it became transparent!” He Zizhong ignored his meal, put the plate with rice in his hand aside and carefully observed the white ball that suddenly disappeared.
The outline of Tuanzi was still there, but its appearance was barely visible. Because its whole body became like water, it was quite transparent, but this kind of transparency was incomplete. It’s okay if one does not pay attention, but the light distortion and outline is visible when looking carefully.
“Maybe… it works!” The two looked at each other and nodded vigorously.
At midnight, a weird, transparent thing bounced from the villa area towards the south gate.
“Puff, puff, puff…”
“Huh? What sound was that?” A group of soldiers who were patrolling suddenly stopped, picked up their guns and patrolled around.
“Did you get it wrong?”
“Was it a bird?”
“What bird makes that sound? It sounds like something in a video game.”
“Whose playing a game?”
“The base has limited power. Who can play video games in the middle of the night so extravagantly?”
The group carefully searched the surroundings for a long time, but they couldn’t find anything strange. Now the plants in the base are the same as outside, basically all withered. There is nothing in the base except human buildings, and naturally there will be no birds either.
After searching for a long time, they couldn’t find anything weird. These soldiers could only assume they had tinnitus and had misheard. Although a group of people mishearing at the same time was a bit creepy, in the weird world they lived in now, everything is different. With humans turning into cannibalizing monsters, strange sounds are nothing in comparison.
About five minutes after the patrol left, the air in a shadowy corner twisted, and something that was originally unseen suddenly appeared.
The mass of air twisted to the left, looked to the right, and confirmed that there was no one around before it bounced southward with a ‘thump, puff, puff’ sound.
A truck carrying ashes drove from the incinerator to the south gate. Because refugees in the waiting area at the north gate could suddenly become zombies, although the number was not as high as before, the incinerator ran several times a day, and so too would the work of transporting the ashes.
The person in the co-pilot seat rubbed his eyes and looked in the rearview mirror casually. He seemed to vaguely see the air behind the car distort. “Huh?”
“What’s wrong?” the driver asked quickly. They were also survivors from the base. It was only because the work of transporting ashes is more profitable, that they took up this kind of unlucky job. Those “corpses” are very evil, so there was always a particularly creepy feeling at work, and their nerves were always subconsciously tense.
“No… maybe it’s a trick of the light.” The person in the front passenger seat rubbed his eyes uncertainly. After all, he didn’t seem to see anything, but… the air seemed to twist?
“Don’t… don’t scare me. What did you see?” The driver felt his legs weaken. Not being able to explain something is scarier than seeing whatever the heck he just saw!
“No, it’s not that… it’s a bit like a mirage, hot air, water vapor.” The man thought for a while, and patted his leg with certainty. “Yes! That’s the feeling, some times the heating by the window in winter is not good. It’s just a gust of hot air!”
The driver was stunned for a moment, and then his expression distorted. “Maybe it was rain dripping on the window… aren’t you a little too timid? Why are you surprised?”
“Didn’t I already answer? My eyes were blurry for a moment, why did you even bother asking?!” The two quarreled and drove out of the south gate.
Tuanzi squinted his eyes comfortably, and a dull night breeze fluttered over the ashes mountain pulled by the truck. It wasn’t until the car came to a halt and the rear of the car pointed at a large, half-full pit, that it jumped down with a “thump”, hopping a few more times until it found a place where there was no one, and dashed into the space.
“Are you in place?” Nodding its head, Tuanzi squinted his eyes and began to enjoy mama’s gentle touch.
He Zizhong calculated the time. About half an hour later, at about two in the morning, he let Tuanzi out of the space again. After confirming that there was no one outside, it entered the space and took him out to sneak out.
He Zizhong was dressed in black and confirmed that there were no people nearby. Because they transported ashes two days prior, He Zizhong knew the location of several large pits where the ashes were buried. Taking advantage of the darkness, he quietly walked to the vicinity of the ash pit, took off his gloves and started work.
For a whole night, He Zizhong and Fang Hao took turns being taken out of space by Tuanzi, until the two of them completely used up their mental energy. They used the rules of space, and reset the villa ‘waypoint’ each time they exchanged swapped roles. The person who went out swapped with the other person in the villa, and the other person returned to the space to be taken out by Tuanzi at the south gate to collect crystal nuclei.
Each time, the sky above the space would emit a layer of crystal clear brilliance, twinkling like stars in the night sky, like pre-apocalypse fireworks, so bright it looked to be a dream.
What made the two of them a little regretful was that after such a large-scale collection of crystal nuclei, there was no white mist like before. Who knows how many crystal nuclei need to be absorbed before it upgrades again?
It took two full nights for the two of them to barely finish sifting out the large pits outside the base. For two days, both of them stayed in the space during the day to make up for sleep and went out to collect crystal nuclei in shifts at night. The rest of the time was spent dual cultivating, practicing martial arts, and harvesting and processing materials.
Once the vegetables and fruits in the space are harvested, they will be kept busy for a while. Fortunately, although the total harvest was an astonishing amount, the poultry and livestock helped them consume the excess so they didn’t accumulate too much. Fang Hao also took advantage of the sunlight to dry some fruits, and stored them small bags to be eaten outside when it was not convenient to enter the space.
When they went out before, although they mostly act alone, meeting others on the road is inevitable. Fang Hao found it was quite inconvenient whenever they were around other people, particularly when it came to fruit. Although fruit can be cut into small pieces and eaten in an inconspicuous bag, neither the crisp sound nor sweet scent of eating fresh fruit can be fully masked. Only then did he consider drying some fruit for outside consumption.
In addition, he also made a lot of beef jerky, pork jerky, pork floss, and other high-calorie snacks.
The crystal nuclei matter delayed them for a two full days. After two days, they went to the mission hall to see if there were any suitable tasks to do while they went out.
Although there are many teams in the base, most are temporary groups without much training. The number of people in each team is different, and it is difficult to cooperate effectively. The world outside the base is very dangerous and unless it is a mission with the military leading the way, guaranteeing success is difficult.
Fang Hao and He Zizhong looked at the posted tasks on the computer, and Fang Hao finally pointed to one of them. “This requires going to the commercial street in the southern district of the city, which is close to the place we are going.” They don’t lack supplies now, but they do lack a strong crashworthy car and handy weapons. Fang Hao pointed out a task that would pass through a certain auto show center. The task objective is a large supermarket in city A. It seems that the person who organized this task has the key to the supermarket warehouse.
He Zizhong shook his head. “This mission location is too deep into the urban area and it is not safe.” Even if the two of them have a magical space to save their lives, it isn’t a good idea to go deep into the city now. The cars aren’t going anywhere, so as long as no one else steps inside, it will become theirs sooner or later. However, people’s sense of combat and cooperation dealing with zombies has not been honed, and it is too dangerous to go to such a hot zone with strangers.
“Then what task should we take? The task of cleaning the surrounding villages?” There are countless villages and county towns around city A, and many cautious teams have limited choices to go to these places.
He Zizhong searched for a while, only to single one out: “Choose this.”
“A mission to act with the military?”
Although the safety factor of working with the military was much higher, the military will have accompanying logistics personnel responsible for collecting materials from large supermarkets, shopping malls, and other places. Therefore, teams that followed the troops can only go to the residential buildings to collect whatever’s left inside.
How many people store food at home these days? What’s more, the task also required participating teams hand in 70% of their gains.
Rather than doing the military clean up operations, most people preferred to form a team and sweep the surrounding villages and towns, because people there often save more food than urbanites.
After pointing out the mission, He Zizhong turned on his mobile phone and pulled up the records he had saved before. One place was within the scope of this settlement.
Fang Hao looked at the phone screen with his hand, then nodded suddenly. “Okay! Go here!”
A day later, at six o’clock in the morning, He Zizhong and Fang Hao drove to the western gate. Many vehicles were gathered around. At the front were armored vehicles and military trucks carrying live ammunition, and at the rear were scattered squad cars.
The military team in front only just arrived here, and all participating teams assembled in an open space behind the army. The team leaders have to report to the military staff first. Although everyone already registered at the mission hall, the mission requirements during a military operation are relatively high. One of them is – if teams do not arrive and register before the time limit, they will be deemed as automatically abandoning the task.
In addition, non-registered teams are not allowed to join the operation, and all illegal income will be confiscated once discovered. Of course, if someone worked with the military to collect materials, after the operation was over, no one would care if they want revisit the place. But whether they find anything then will depend on luck.

Ah, Am I the only one thinking these two main leads are selfish? They hoard and consume a lot of resources without giving anything to the base or humanity. I guess they pay rent and things but something like collecting all crystals will slow down human progress in the future. And not like they help control zombies. Humanity will really be lost if they still continue. Thanks for the translation!
It’s a question of morality. I won’t say who’s right or wrong, but they are in a chaotic civilization where rules are based on power. At the very least they’re not power hungry like some characters…
They aren’t, you might not notice it but they didn’t hoarded all the resources at all they left some for other people too. Let’s just say that time when they were at a store/mall all they do is clean up one stall and find other useful things on other places.
Each time they picked up supplies, they left atleast 1/2. Which is more than any other person would or has done so far. Helping others in this world is based on how safe you can be afterwards. If you were stuck on a deserted island with your family and 500 strangers and you had enough food to keep your family healthy and fed until help arrived or you could feed everyone for a couple days and then rely on whatever you could scrounge up, roots, bark, random fruit, whatever fish you could catch and hope that the children and old people weren’t attacked for their rations.
Not to mention if the military found out they had the space, what’s to stop them from locking them in a room and turning them into a living pantry? It’s not like there is anyone to stop those with strength from doing what the want. People can kill someone for a loaf of bread, do you really think that people are going to care about what happens to the MC and ML as long as they can get food?
On novel updates there’s a tag “antihero protagonist” among the tags on this novel so…….
In reality this is the apocalypse where morals and laws are almost gone. Everyone is striving to have supplies of there own and honestly I’d do the same as them. I’d hoard a lot too, you’d never know the situation and i don’t care if it’s selfish if it’s about my survival. Who would care about others when you’re in that situation, if they started giving out the fruits and crops in the space. How many can they give? How many people will start asking for more, how many will start harassing them for giving less? You act like you care about humanity but you don’t know the greediness of them. In that desperate situation everyone will keep turning to them until everything will be gone because their supplies will not support everyone. At least they leave them half of the supplies they’re gathering, Idk if you’re even reading the same novel as I am. It’s the law of nature, the strongest goes on top and clearly out of all these people they have the advantage so they’re making the full use of it. They’re not Jesus, they can’t fully give what they have. At least they still pay rent.
I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, they don’t always take everything but they generally do. It’s one thing when they’re hoarding the things that other people can’t make use of, but when it’s stuff he knows that people will need in the future? I just keep thinking about hoe his current actions will affect those who had survived in his previous life. Like taking all the crystals from the military pits. Isn’t having a space supposed to be about becoming self reliant! Adding resources, not taking them away?
Yess!!!! They’re so selfish, they have a surplus of food, INFINITE WATER, supplies, and fresh vegitation that they could be sharing, (because they have enough) but they just keep everything to themselves. And I understand the food thing fine, it’s selfish, but understandable. But, the information/helping others. They straight up ignored the guy that was clearly very shaken after the bear attack, and didnt heal the guy that had internal injuries. Like for people that have leveled abilities they could help a little. They didn’t tell the instant noodle base about the dangers they could face with the flimsy fence. Or the first people that followed them at the start, they didn’t tell them the crops will go bad or there will be a base in city A. The author also misses so many opportunities to make it an actual apocalypse survival story. There’s a crash and zombies are coming? Just run right through them when others can’t. Oh, there’s a traffick jam and everyone is stuck? Just take the road that no one else considered I guess. Oh, we have a gorgeous villa? Let’s spend all of our time in our space. Also why doesn’t zizhong show his strength he knows power is king. Anyway sorry I went off on a rant. I like to torture myself with the hope that they’ll be more involved with other people, so I appreciate the heck out of the translator. Thank you for the translation! ❤
I honestly don’t see them at selfish. There were many times they could’ve taken everything and they didn’t. Also Zizhong was betrayed in his past life if you recall. It’s hard to trust people again after that. Another thing to note is, humanity is scarier than anything else! Healing a stranger could put Hao’er in danger. In the past life, healers were locked up. Recall that the women were willing to sacrifice their companion to save themselves. Helping people is all well and good but would you help someone who could potentially harm you or your loved ones in an environment where there are little to no laws and everyone is only out for themselves? P.s. we shouldn’t judge them too harshly this early in the novel. Zizhong’s rebirth is still too fresh. In an apocalyptic situation, it will always be might makes right and people will prioritize their own safety before being willing to help someone else.
Have you completely forgotten the reason why Zizhong was reborn? His space and the information that he knows ( for only half a year ) can endanger his life AGAIN. Its stupid if he actually did what you deemed unselfish amidst everyone struggling to save themselves, where greed and self interest prevail? In fact, they did not abandoned their humanity. Despite having an enormous space, the protagonist did not swept up all the food but instead collect the things that were useless for other people. Also, I guess they will eventually contribute to the base since those things can be circulated to other people, such as the medicines. Anyway I’m sorry for this rant ( ◜‿◝ )♡, hope it did not offend (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
above me already explain to you, i just wanna remind you to consider things before making conclusion.
and why would they give away their hard work for free to other people?, just be realistic, always giving things will only indulge people and make their thinking distorted, like =“capable people need to always help the poor for free and it is mandatory”. and hell NO they work their ass off for themselves, their lives and their comfort for the future.
if they want to help by space and healing power they need to consider being targeted by big and greedy powerhouses. and abt reminding the noodle factory, i recommend you to reread. it says the bus convoy should already know abt the danger and they already says they will stay for a few days not forever my friend.
abt the 1st convoy that follows them, remember the timeline, there is no paper notice or radio announcement that says there will be build base in city A. if HZZ said so, how could he explain to them from where the info comes from?. if he said it’s bec he is reincarnating, come on who will believe him. and it is crazier to expose ur secret like that. even after he comes to city A the base hasn’t even been build yet.
hope i didn’t offend you, i just consider them my child and understood their choices〒▽〒
Some of your comments are based on the assumption that others would listen and accept what was said as complete truth. The group of people were hungry and willing to fight people for food, so they wanted to go to the noodle factory. Now, if ml and mc had said, the fence isnt strong enough and its not a good idea to stay there, do you think those people would say, oh, thank you. No, they would go anyway because they want to have the noodle factory and dont have space to take away all the food that was there. They would also most likely think that the ml and mc were trying to get them to leave so they could come back and take more food.
Take an innocent example of people now. If you hand someone a card and tell them that the only thing you have written on the back is hi, most people will flip it over to check.
They are not saints and have no obligation to help others selflessly. They have to prioritize their own livelihood and safety first rather than acting like a philanthropist giving away their hard earned supplies. They are actually kind enough about them not completely wiping out the supplies they found and have you read the chapter when they fought the mutant bear? They are very human enough to give those two guys medicine to help them even a little plus not bothering the other guy in the corner.
In state of apocalypse, being selfless will only kill you by the hands of those you helped
I will just assumed that the people calling out ‘selfish’ are kinda first timers in apocalypse/survival genre. A ‘holy saint’ would actually make me jump out and abandon ship in these kind of genre. Mind you, this story is particularly light compare to other zombie stories. But yeah, there’s also base building type of apocalypse stories, maybe they would want that as the protags there interact more with side characters and would be seen as ‘kind’.
I feel the saaaame 😂
They’re selfish? You don’t say.
I myself, if I have enough I’ll share. But in a precarious situation like this, when randos are even more likely to be unhinged—bc of inherent morals, distress, trauma, exhaustion, or hunger—I wouldn’t go around showing off my good good resources. And on top of that our protag is someone who has been Through It. And also seemed to have the unfortunate luck of connecting with trash people. He’s not gonna be nice, especially so soon.
For now, when things are just getting started, it’s best to hunker down and check out the situation. Train, get stronger so you won’t be bullied in the future, see who’re actually good/not terrible people. Think of it like this: the resources are better in their hands than those who are actually wicked. /They/ don’t go out of their way to pit people! The most they do is ignore people facing the consequences of their own terrible luck/calculations. We’re just getting started, don’t discount them just yet.
(yeah I was whining earlier too but the author threw us a bone so I’m keeping the faith 😭)
Also I’m a sucker for hoarding so let them keep going we can sweep /more/ 🤩
The crystal thing is a bit iffy I agree bc they should get stronger bc they’re at greater risk but also not even like dropping a hint or smth to tell others— but then again certain ability users aren’t to be trusted— BUT the military often ain’t sht either we— 😵💫 You see how things aren’t easy? We’re removed from the situation and there’s so many considerations.
MC and ML could do a lot with what they have but now is not the right time. At this point, they haven’t fully developed their cultivation, abilities, or their space. They need more time to develop these things and adding extra worries won’t do anything good for them in the long run. In this world where crazy bastards could kill you or betray you at the drop of a hat, they need to get stronger so that strong ability users and the military can’t push them around or keep them hostage.
Maybe at some point in the future, MC and ML can indiscriminately give away resources.
About the crystals, though, I agree that taking all the crystals might not be the best way to go about things, especially since level 1 crystals seem to have lost a great amount of their effect on the space and Tuanzi, and is next to useless for upgrading them. But there is no shortage of zombies or mutants, and in the near future, all zombies/mutants will have a crystal in their brains. It’s only a matter of time before scientists research the crystals and discover their benefits. MC and ML taking crystals from one base won’t stop the whole of humanity.
I see some ppl commenting about the MC and ML being selfish so here I am.
Okay, have you ever heard of the sayings, only those who have the strength can show kindness?
Before you can be kind/help other people you need to be able to safeguard yourself and yours, coz ur first priority and responsibility is yourself and those who are important to you.
If showing kindness/helping others can bring harm to yourself/ppl important to you, then that’s not kindness, that’s stupidity, especially with the risk of the ppl being helped betraying you in such a lawless apocalyptic world.
Only when you’re strong and capable enough to protect your own do you have the obligation to help those in need, that’s why they say with power, comes responsibility.
all these selfish discourse is so laughable lmaoo
even if they hoard a 10 years worth of supplies for BOTH of them, if you really think about it, its only 2x10x365 days worth of supplies, or 7300 days for 1 person
or. one week worth of supplies for 1000 people. which is only a drop in the bucket, really.
if they give them away now, and then next week, what are they gonna do? brave the dangerous outside world again? with their life and 1000 other people lives on stake?
to what extend should they give? until they’re sucked dry? what would they get in return? even asking for a ‘thankyou’ would be too much, in that time. those 1000 people would feel entitled once they know what protagonists are capable of, and they’d feel indignant if you wanna stop giving at some point.
